[a resolution submitted to vote in the Oklahoma state government]

WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and

WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and

WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE

Oh, it's Sally Kern again, that crazy old bat who claims gays are a bigger threat to national security than terrorism and espionage.

Everybody just click "WTF?!" and move on.

Where's the point?

WHEREAS, the people of Oklahoma have a strong tradition of reliance upon the Creator of the Universe; and

By "creator of the universe" do you mean Yahweh, Allah, Jehovah or the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Or perhaps even He-Man, Master of the Universe?!

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; and

I see, so lying, cheating and stealing translate directly into dollars and cents.

WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

Capitalism would say: if there's a demand for the above, then the USA is doing it right!

WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and

Boo-fucking-hoo. Tradition does not equal the law and certainly does not mean an obligation to follow said traditions. Get over it.

WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and

Again, boo-fucking-hoo. 1st Ammendment, bitch: no establishment of religion.

WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;

Once more, boo-fucking-hoo. You live your life and let Obama live his.

Good thing this is only Oklahoma. If you tried this looney shit at the federal level it would be so unconstitutional so fast it would make her empty head spin off.

If I were a citizen of Oklahoma, I would be extremely pissed off at Sally Kern for 1) speaking on my behalf when I disagree with this whole shit, and 2) wasting her time and the legislature's time on worthless resolutions. If the economy is so bad there, why not focus on that and make corrective actions to fix it rather than uselessly "paper praying" to your god?

There's no "long tradition" of celebrating a NDOP. The "long tradition" is exactly eight years, under Bush Jr. A NDOP has been declared from time to time (e.g., under Lincoln). An actual law wasn't passed until 1952 telling the President to proclaim a NDOP each year. Under Reagan, it was amended to fix the day as the first Thursday in May. Dubya is really the only president who actually made a big deal out of celebrating it. Obama dutifully made his proclamation*. A bunch of right-wing politicians in Oklahoma are just annoyed because Obama didn't have some big religious ceremony.

* "NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 7, 2009, as a National Day of Prayer. I call upon Americans to pray in thanksgiving for our freedoms and blessings and to ask for God's continued guidance, grace, and protection for this land that we love.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of May, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third."

"WHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography ..."

Yeah? When I was a reporter I went out to a number of tornado scenes. Invariably I would talk to survivors at the remains of their wrecked houses who would tell me about how awesome their god was for saving them. And just as invariably I would spot porn mags and/or VHS tapes in the wreckage of their homes.

... Just saying.

Art. 11. As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquility, of Mussulmen; and, as the said States never entered into any war, or act of hostility against any Mahometan nation, it is declared by the parties, that no pretext arising from religious opinions, shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries.

So, as the economic crisis started while Baby Bush was at the helm, he must be responsible for the moral crisis as well.

Promoting abortions? Nobody does that anymore. There was a time when slow-witted persons were given forced abortions, at least in our country, by the state which was very much protestantic.

What the heck is an illegitimate birth? They are not allowed to be born, or what? If you mean unwanted kids, you can get away from that with proper abortion laws. Child abuse also diminishes if more children are born wanted, welcomed and wished for.

The US of A was built on enlightenment basis, very much not on Christian heritage. But of course there has been lots and lots of Christianity in the culture. And there has been lots and lots of pornography, sex trafficing, divorce, unwanted kids and child abuse, as well.

All the problems with the US of A did most certainly not start the moment when Baby B went out of the White House and President Obama entered it. They have been going on for centuries.

Religion is something between you and your god. Thats about it. Of course, it might be nice to worship in groups in a church on a Sunday. But it most certainly does not fit into the Government. Sure, people might base their philosophy and actions on a Christian foundation, but that too is personal and private.

The Bible is not moralistic or uplifting. There are a lot of stories about god killing scores of people for some slight misdemeanour or other.

WHEREAS, notwithstanding pockets of reason in those "United States"

Conundrum

I live here, and I'm deeply offended she's trying to speak for me. She's lost a lot of support. More and more Oklahoma(including those in her district) are getting tired of her fixation with gays, and realizing she's not doing much to improve the state. She's actually in danger of losing the Republican primary, as they don't want to risk the seat to the Democrats.

That's a frightening thought, considering the fact that there isn't any morality in the bible.
