I heard something yesterday which left me breathless.
Translation: Someone told me something which gels with my preconcieved notions of religion and politics, and I accepted it 100% without bothering to check the facts in the matter because it fits in with my reconieved notions and therefore mustbe true.
When George Washington was inaugurated, he and the entire Congress dedicated this country to God
Then why was that not reflected in the US constitution? Why did that same president and many of those same congressmen both negotiate and ratify a treaty that attests to the exact opposite being the case? If they dedicated the country to the christian god then why did they include in the Bill of Rights an ammendment that is in direct violation of the 1st commandment? Why would they dedicate the country to the christian god when many of them were deists if not atheists?
Regardless, no such dedication was ever passed and codified into US law and therefore has no meaning to the government or the country as a whole, and since I've spent the last hour or so searching for such a dedication and have come up empty handed I have doubts that such a dedication ever took place outside of your own wishful thinking.
And the place where they did this? On a street which is now part of the well-known "Ground Zero" in New York City.
No, Washington was inaugurated at Federal Hall in NYC, and while both Federal Hall and The World Trade Center are both located on Wall St. they lie several city blocks apart and the term "Ground Zero" is used to refer to the the ruins of the Twin Tower and more loosely the WTC complex as a whole. Neither of those definitions are include Federal Hall or any portion of Wall St. beyond the portion directly adjacent to the WTC complex, and it's simply facetious to claim otherwise.
God allowed for us to get a wake-up call on 9-11
You disgust me. You trivialize the deaths of every single person on 9/11 by suggesting that it was what, A "Wake-up Call"? 3000+ people dead and you call it a wake-up call? A wake up call would be clouds forming the words "REPENT" in the sky, if your "god" is such a malevolent, uncaring, and sadistic bastard as to snuff out the lives of over 3000 people in the hope that someone will notice his displeasure then your "god" is unworthy of worship and your "faith" is greatly misplaced.
but I had no idea what a stunning call it was.
"Stunning"? You sound as if you think 9/11 was a good thing, that it makes you feel as if you have been justifed in a "that sure shows them, know they'll know I was right all along" kind of way.
Pray for our country.
What do you expect prayer to do for our country? Did the prayers of people on the hijacked planes mean anything to the "god" that decided they were to die as a "wake up call"?
If your "god" wanted to put out a "wake-up call" to bring people to christianity then would he not have been better served by preventing the attacks in such a way that it would be obvious to believer and unbeliever alike that a miracle had occured?
