Cable channel MSNBC host Keith Olbermann gave [Wiley] Drake more exposure this week when he named Drake the "World's Worst Person." In video aired on the station on Monday, Olbermann cited Drake's admission that he prays for the death of President Barack Obama as his basis for the selection.
Drake said he has prayed for Obama's death, though "98 percent everything I pray about him is very positive."
However Drake also said he's directed to pray for ill against his enemies by Psalm 109, which asks for punishment for evildoers, and even considers such prayers a "duty."
"If anybody has a problem with the prayer we're praying, they need to take it up with the man who wrote it, because it's not me," Drake said.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that Pastor Drake's definition of "evildoers" is vastly different from mine.
I'm also going to guess that, although he professes to be a Christian, he hasn't read what Jesus had to say about your enemies and loving them.
Just a crazy hunch...
@Zorro:
Unfortunately, if he dies, even if it's because of the most natural thing in the world, those murderous nutjobs will think it was because of them.
As long as they fervently pray and do nothing else, I'll be happy as pig in the mud. Pray fundies! God will hear! But if you hear the voices that tell you to kill Obama or your other enemies yourself, that's Satan's voice and don't listen to it!
"If anybody has a problem with the prayer we're praying, they need to take it up with the man who wrote it"
Which one? And whose version?
@ Frank Beemer: please all, do not beseach my prayers for you.
Isn't it 'beseech'? Pray for proper grammar first.
I hear god nearly everynight!
So, the voices you hear in your head are GAWD? They have meds for that now-a-days
@frank beemer:
Wasn't Lucifer angel of light, the first angel, the one that came into being when god said "Let there be light"? Is that the light you want us all to see? Or would you preffer the light of reason?
Nah, I think we'll just keep the pressure on you since you're enough of a douchebag to follow the words of a retarded, 2000 year dead, misogynistic sociopath.
(frank beemer)
"I refuse to be put on those MEDS that would make me into a ROBOT! What if the MEDS took away my ability to see and hear our LORD JESUS CHRIST!"
Your Honor, the prosecution rests.
Hee.

HOWL GARGLE HOWL HOWL GARGLE WAAAAAARRRGGGGH!!!!
May the peace and love of Jesus be with you all.
However Drake also said he's directed to pray for ill against his enemies by Psalm 109
But Psalm 109 describes enemies as people who "remembered not to show mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart."
That sounds more like Drake than Obama.
Bah! I submitted this a week ago and it never made it onto the quotes page.
I guess Drake's KJV doesn't have Romans:
13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
or 1 Timothy:
2:1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2:2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

I just love your quaint, folksy, religious talk. That, together with the unaffected pleasure, shown in your other comments, that you have in communicating the bizarre rituals of your tribe's religious rites is most fascinating.
Another wacko. 'Judgement is mine': the Bible has God say. Drake, therefore has no business praying for evil to befall anyone. To do so is a form of cursing/black magic. And clearly it goes against what Jesus taught.
This is also an interesting case of where the Bible contradicts itself, so that there are easy pickings for those who want to cherry pick whatever suits their purpose and prejudice.
Pastor Drake is, in my agnostic view, an evil person who should be on his knees making atonement for the blasphemy of willing God to do evil to someone he doesn't like. It's cases like this that make me wish I could really believe and know there is a god, so that I could commend this wrongdoing to his mercy and forgiveness, not to his vengeance.
Guy walks into a tavern and places on the bar a very small man -- about a foot tall -- wearing a tuxedo, and a miniature piano. The customer orders a beer. The little man starts playing with exquisite skill -- classical, jazz, rock-and-roll. Eyes huge, the bartender steps back. "That's the damnedest thing I've ever seen. Where in the hell did you get him?"
The customer takes a sip of his brew and says, "Well, I've been praying my heart out for two years now. But what I asked for was a 12-inch penis."
Your prayer, your sin, Wiley. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?
@ Old Viking
Funny, sir. It will be stolen and used in boring cocktail parties.
@ Frank Beemer
Slow and gentle is usually preferred.
they need to take it up with the man who wrote it,
Uh, Moses? Frank Bacon? Abdul the Goat Fucker?
OK, let me see if I've got this straight.
These christianists' religion forbids them from killing others*. BUT, they can pray for their invisible friend to kill others.
What a fucked up religion.
Spock sez: "Fascinating, captain."
* Prohibition against killing does not apply when christianists murder Muslims, dark-skinned people, liberals, abortion providers, fags, smart people, teachers, scientists, Darwinists and atheists.
Well supposedly the Psalms were written by David. So yeah, unless you've got an Ouija board handy, I don't think anyone will be asking him.
Of course Davids the same guy who sent some poor sap to the front of a battle just so David could bang his wife. So yeah, great role model you've got there.
And I'm getting tired of the trolls, and the troll clones.
@frank beemer, is that you? It's been ages since you and I have spoken. Easily ten years now. if you've heard anyone else in the interim, that must've been my brother, Larry...
Like solomongrundy posted, whatever happened to praying for your leaders?
Cafeteria Christianity - Just pick and choose whichever rules are convienient to follow and enforce and ignore the rest.
"98 percent everything I pray about him is very positive."
Somehow, I doubt that.
However Drake also said he's directed to pray for ill against his enemies by Psalm 109, which asks for punishment for evildoers, and even considers such prayers a "duty."
Luke 6:27 says to love your enemies and do good things to them.
"Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you"
That's what he actually wrote...I just figured in reading your bible you missed that first part and had misread the last as "Pray those who persecute you die"
So it's okay to wish someone dead as long as you only put 2% worth of time into into it?
And just to pile on the rest of the bible quotes, straight from the mouth of Jesus.
Matthew 5:44 - But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
"Drake said he has prayed for Obama's death, though "98 percent everything I pray about him is very positive."
So you're praying for Obama to be the best looking, richest & most popular corpse in the graveyard?
And Jesus, the BOSS, said pray for the guys who persecute you. If you want to cling to the psalms and the OT, convert to Judaism.
And exactly why would God need to be told by his followers to do what he's already going to do, or be told by his followers to do something he's not going to do? It's not as if an almighty, all-powerful, all-knowing creator of the entire universe needs the approval of some pissant yes-man butt kisser to carry out his grand scheme of the universe.
This is old and there were excellent comments about the flawed premise in relation to divine authority supposedly justifying this death-wish prayer, then about prayer's lack of efficacy, etc. Just adding a note that the part that "worked" here was however the promotion of hate as well as its self-reinforcement. Assuming that it's true that someone was regularly praying for someone to die, it's a type of self-destructive rumination and not very far from madness... How can you focus on constructive and positive things if you obsess about the death of someone instead, to a point where you repeat the death wish over and over?
Confused?
