Quote# 64247

I wonder what would have happened to him (Fred Phelps) if he were in North Korea...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_of_religion_in_North_Korea#Abuses_of_religious_freedom

That's the country I would personally live in. It's the only one that routinely and aggressively persecutes Christians, yet isn't a predominantly Muslim nation.

I carry a photo of one of Westboro's pickets and wrote a caption that says "This is what all Christians actually believe".

Only one way to find out, now isn't there...

Well, I'm not stopping you. Go right ahead. Show me how a good Christian suffers...

No, most Christians would smack you for implying they have anything in common with those attention whoring loons.

I'm sure you would. But I wonder would you then use it so you can say you are/were?

Frogflayer

Had to check that out in context.
When asked why he would say that he replies
"You see, politically, I am conservative and vote Republican, yet nearly everybody with the same interests as me is some sort of left-wing revolutionary, and atheist or agnostic, or practice paganism. I am a Christian, and many liberals think that all Christians are racist, bigoted, and homophobic. So I am pretending to be liberal to impress these people."

Makes his case worse really.

Okay, calm down. The Phelps clan sucks but they don't represent all Christians.

Can somebody explain to me what exactly is so wrong with this? While most Christians won't ADMIT that this is what they believe, what Westboro says is actually in the Bible.

Anyway, I don't think it is appropriate to use an anti-Christian quote on a site mocking "fundies".

7/30/2009 10:55:59 PM

So, are you hinting that Christians are only 150 people?. Funny that they cause so many problems. And by the way, North Korea persecutes anything under the sun.

To the credit of a friend of mine actually SERVING in the military over there in Korea, he said something awesome when I saw him: "Don't worry about North Korea. They're so impotent, they could put Viagra out of business."

Yeah, that HAS to be a troll (I hope)

@ StreetSharksRule:
Most people use the bible as a guide of why the world was created and the driving force behind it, rather than as a guide to laws and such. Most Christians define the old testament's heavy handed laws as been a wake up call to the 'ungodly' world and were there to knock some sense into the 'terrible' people of the time, and as such no longer apply in today's society.

Actually, I'm lying. There is no universal understanding of Christianity and it is different depending on the follower and their upbringing. The laws of the bible are take under advisement and are MEANT to be personal choices to live by.....supposedly.

@StreetSharksRule:

Why not? This man is clearly fundie--most Christians don't believe what Phelps does. Anyone can see that. It doesn't matter against whom he's speaking out; if he's doing it in a fundie way, it's fundie.

As for you, Tim_Tex, I don't know what religion you actually practice, but I suggest you do a little reading. Consensus is generally that Christians are much nicer than Kim Jong-Il. I mean, come on.

I don't see the fundie, here. Most of the Christians may not SAY they support Fred Phelps, but their silence certainly implies agreement.

To any Christians reading this: If you're different from the Phelps Klan, you NEED to stand up and speak out!

Fred Phelps is a piece of filth, I think any sane person would agree (he and his harpy of a daughter were recently banned from entering the UK. Yay!) but to advocate the persecution of any group makes you just as bad as he is. Perhaps worse, as you've seen the result of his addiction to hate.

I strongly urge you to think again; hate does terrible things to people and you're on that path.

1) North Korea isn't muslim. There is a small muslim population in South Korea as well as some christians, Koreans mostly practice the traditional eastern religions like Buddhism and Confucianism.

2) Feel free to move there all you want. Religion is officially suppressed, but so is most other free expression. As far as I know there's not even any internet access available to the general public. You'd have nothing else to do but worship the "Great Leader" like everyone else there.

3)Fred Phelps is no christian. He's a sick, psychotic asshole who hates himself above all else and can't stand to see others happy and enjoying life. He does not represent the majority of christians in this country. He represents no one but himself.

Personally I thought it was obvious that most Christians aren't that idiotic. I guess I was sadly mistaken.
