Quote# 64282

I haven't been posting for a while, for a variety of reasons, but I really MUST post this.

Condoms do not work. They simply cannot guarantee to prevent either pregnancy or infection 100% of the time. This has disastrous consequences.

A friend of one of my friends, a girl of 15 years of age, recently had sex with her boyfriend. They used a condom. They used it properly. They were not drunk. They believed they were being responsible and indeed did everything that modern medicine and education tell young persons to do. It tore during intercourse. It failed completely.

The sad thing is that she was so terrified upon discovering this, that the day after she took the 'morning-after pill', a chilling euphemism for what is essentially a chemical abortion. She did not even know whether she was pregnant or not.

YET THIS IS THE ACTION ADVISED IN SCHOOLS ALL ACROSS THE UK.

"DO WHAT YOU LIKE, AND CONDOMS WILL PREVENT CONSEQUENCES. IF IN DOUBT, ABORT."

Because society had so conditioned this poor girl - a charming, friendly, good natured girl -into believing that condoms were a secure license to unconstrained sexual activity, she felt free to do as she pleased without any risks. Secondly, our quick-fix society then pressures her into abortion, explicitly telling young girls that they must abort THE VERY NEXT DAY, in effect giving them less than 24 hours to make an actual LIFE OR DEATH DECISION!

This is sickening!

Why can nobody see the cataclysmic folly of this kind of thinking?

Because when a girl has sex, the sperm is INSTANTLY fused to her egg, which is INSTANTLY implanted in her uterus, beginning pregnancy. And it looks exactly like a fully-formed baby, it's just really tiny.

Is what reality would have to be like for your argument to make any sense.

Sanitarium

I dread to ask....but how do you *know* they used the condom properly?

7/25/2009 8:03:23 AM

Mayhem

sniff..sniff...

Yep... I smell bullshit.

At any rate, it's no worse than your oppressive religion teaching charming, friendly, good-natured girls that they are less than men and should be subservient to them at all times, and that all the natural feelings they have are evil.

"Why can nobody see the cataclysmic folly of this kind of thinking?"

What is the cataclysmic folly of that sort of thinking? I've always wondered that.

If you have to invent reasons for people not to have premarital sex, if you have to make there be consequences by campaigning against birth control, then it really doesn't seem to be hurting anybody, does it?

Your god is obviously quite weak, if we can defeat it by inventing condoms and contraceptives.

The Watcher

How is it a "chemical abortion" if you don't know the sperm implanted?

7/25/2009 8:14:12 AM

As the father of a child who was the result of a failed condom, I can vouch for this being a possibility. However, had I been careful to check the "best before" date, I could have prevented her existence completely (which in retrospect would be sad).
So, I would take your friends' word that they used the condom "correctly" with a grain of salt.
Condoms may fail occasionally, but unprotected sex fails at a considerably higher rate.
As to your rant about emergency birth control (aka morning after pill), unlike an actual abortion pill, it is merely a very high dose of birth control pills designed to stop ovulation and prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, should one happen to be there. There is no fetus to abort. Your argument is baseless.

"I haven't been posting for a while, for a variety of reasons, but I really MUST post this.

Condoms do not work. They simply cannot guarantee to prevent either pregnancy or infection 100% of the time. This has disastrous consequences."

Well, yes, there is a reason sex ed teaches that abstinence is the only 100% way of preventing STDs or unwanted pregnancy, but you're trying to be misleading by saying the most common and stupidest argument against contraception I've ever seen. Guess what, idiot? Condoms have a 3% failure rate when used properly, far less than you would like.

"A friend of one of my friends, a girl of 15 years of age, recently had sex with her boyfriend. They used a condom. They used it properly. They were not drunk. They believed they were being responsible and indeed did everything that modern medicine and education tell young persons to do. It tore during intercourse. It failed completely."

Yeah, first, I'm calling lying for Jesus based on the "friend of a friend" bullshit. Second, if you aren't lying, shit happens. Condoms aren't perfect and proper sex ed teaches that.

"The sad thing is that she was so terrified upon discovering this, that the day after she took the 'morning-after pill', a chilling euphemism for what is essentially a chemical abortion. She did not even know whether she was pregnant or not."

Do you damn research before saying what something does.

"YET THIS IS THE ACTION ADVISED IN SCHOOLS ALL ACROSS THE UK.

"DO WHAT YOU LIKE, AND CONDOMS WILL PREVENT CONSEQUENCES. IF IN DOUBT, ABORT.""

Yeah, I highly doubt they are in class talking about how important it is for young people to have sex. Proper sex education teaches abstinence, proper sex education teaches the risks of sex, proper sex education prevents more pregnancies and STDs than abstinence only bullshit that you fundies see as so perfect.

Seriously, do your damn research.

"This is sickening!"

Yeah, sickening because she prevented herself from ruining her life by accidentally getting pregnant and having to take care of a child at the age of 15 instead of getting an education and getting a good job.

"Why can nobody see the cataclysmic folly of this kind of thinking?"

Because most people that aren't you and your fundie friends know what they're talking about.

"Condoms do not work." They simply cannot guarantee to prevent either pregnancy or infection 100% of the time."
They work 98%. Better then most of the alternatives.

"This has disastrous consequences."

Not always, especially if you have plan B. Which 15 year old girl in the story obviously had. So... what to hell is your problem?
1) No baby, no abortion.
2) Do you really think that 15 year old girl will be excellent mother?

7/25/2009 8:42:45 AM

Headache

Having used condoms for close to 40 years all I have to say is bullshit! I have never had any condom break.

And then again we have this friend of a friend of a friend of a friend and we have a nice game of telephone.

7/25/2009 9:03:43 AM

Painful

So if it was a life or death situation that a condom broke and the morning after pill was taken... which one of them had AIDS or HIV?

7/25/2009 9:11:56 AM

Dave

I have a "friend" who only taught her daughter abstinence. Her underage daughter is now an unwed teenage mother. The "friend" is Sarah Palin..

I do love the detailed description of the condom use indicating that the poster was either in the bedroom, watching closely as a sexpert, or was lying.

Funny, the older they are, the more properly the condom doesn't tear. Maybe there is a equation, not an imaginary friend of a friend.

If she took EC early enough, the egg wouldn't have been fertilized yet. It might not have gotten fertilized at all, but that isn't a chance I would take.

Antichrist

So because condoms only work 99% of the time, we should toss them all out?

Although it sounds like this girl did not use a condom correctly (probably didn't lubricate) she does sound like a responsible person. You on the other hand are an idiot.

7/25/2009 10:43:09 AM

That 15 yo girl is smart and responsible. Shame about her friends of friends.

7/25/2009 10:48:19 AM

Young people are full of hormones and are going to fuck no matter how much you tell them not to, so it's better for them to use condoms than nothing at all. Nobody said they were 100% reliable, but they're a hell of a lot better than no protection at all. It's a bit like saying, a seatbelt isn't 100% guaranteed to save your life in a crash, therefore seatbelts are useless.

7/25/2009 10:58:03 AM

a) In less than 24 hours, the sperm probably hasn't even reached the egg, yet.
b) Even if it had, the chances of fertilisation are relatively small
c) A fertilised egg is not a human being, and prevention of fertilisation is not abortion.
d) No quick decision was needed, if they'd wanted to have a baby, they wouldn't have used a condom in the first place.
