If I were in your situation, I would probably move because I would not want myself or my family surrounded by islam
Is it because your a xenophobic bigot who can't deal with the fact that there are actually people who do not share your beliefs?
but I can understand why many people would rather stay put and tough it out.
"Tough it out"? Is it so hard for you people to deal with others who have different beliefs than your own? You act as if having to be around those of different faiths is some kind of burden that you don't feel you should have to bear. Your infantile intolerence is down right pathetic.
For one thing, there are doubtless going to be many opportunities to witness there
So people are nothing but a conversion opportunity to you? It's nothing but blatant selfishness, you only see others as a way for you to score points with your "god".
There is a growing muslim population in my area too and I see a lot of burkas, but it does not feel overwhelming yet.
Alot of Burkas, or a lot of Hijab's? I know people like you, and I know how you see a headscarf or veil and immediately translate that to "Burka". The use of burka's throughout the muslim world is not all that common outside of extremely fundamentalist muslim groups where as the hijab is. But I wouldn't expect you to understand that given the fact that you only see peole of other religions as an opportunity to score points at best, and as heathens to be converted or killed at worst.
Though once an area starts approaching 10% of its population being muslim it starts to be a real issue
An issue for you maybe, but people are free to live wherever they wish to, regardless of whether or not it offends your delicate christian sensabilities. This is not a christian theocracy and you don't get to decide where people get to live, no matter what their choice of religion is.
because it attracts more of them and your city becomes a hub for islamic activity.
And what is "islamic activity"? Is that your fundie codeword for terrorist? You act as if these people, people who worship the same "god" you do, are nothing more than vermin, for no other reason than that they don't believe the same things you do.
That's what happened with hindus in my area.
Oh, so your an equal opportunity bigot?
I moved into my neighborhood about ten years ago, and when some hindu families moved into the neighborhood across the street more and more moved there because they like to stick together.
So? Is it suddenly wrong or criminal for people who are not christian to live in the same neighborhood?
Pretty soon all of the other families moved away because they no longer felt welcome
Or did they because there share the same racist and bigoted sentiment as you?
(indians can be surprisingly racist)
And you aren't? Give me a fucking break, I highly doubt you came off as a good neighbor. From the way you act I'm sure they felt the same way about you, and they would have been right
Then, last year they built a huge, awful hindu temple nearby because the population had grown enough to support one
Oh no! What are they thinking? Don't they know that this is America? Don't them dirty hindoo's know that only christians is allowed to build churches here? This is a christian nation an' if they ain't christians then they should leave.
Does that sound like you? Because that the sentiment that you seem to be putting forth. The freedom of religion that is guranteed by the constitution is inclusive of all religions, not just christianity.
With three mosques, that sounds like what might be happening to your area.
Then you should embrace them, make them welcome in your community, show them that the entire country isn't full of xenophobic bigots. Show them the kindness and compassion that your religion asks you too. Let them know that not everyone in america hates muslims, that we are not a nation of modern day crusaders bent on wiping out all muslims. Show them that america is indeed the shining city on a hill that our founders envisioned, show then that we are better than our weakest links, that our freedoms are unconditional and universal, be they tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to be free, or hindus, muslims, or a member of any of the other myriand religions whose member have come america seeking a better life, a new start, a second chance, or simply the opportunity to achive the American Dream.
A truly free society cannot exist so long as even a single person or group is denied even one of the rights enjoyed by the rest of the population, that's why the unofficial motto, for almost 200 years, was E pluribus Unum "Out of Many, One", and not "Christianity uber Alles".
I'll definitely be praying for you!
Because that's been proven to do so much good throughout the past two millenia.
