Maybe non-Christians are the selfish bastards because they refuse to ask God to cure malaria and end earthquakes.

So, the only reason you haven't prayed for these things is ... because nobody's asked you to?

Or they're doing things that actually work.

Muslims could say the same thing to you about Allah.

(Yes, I know Allah is just Arabic for "God," I mean rhutchin could pray to the Muslim God.)

Two things strike me. Why should they, who don´t conform to those beliefs, do something that Christians are not supposed to do?. If you´re a Christian, try to sound convincing. Second, why would an omnipotent being need people to request him to do something he has planned in advance and has the capacity to change, specially from people who don´t conform to the beliefs he supposedly outlined?. In other words, if you don´t believe your own rules, why should others who disagree should?.

Or maybe we could just keep searching for the cure for malaria and reinforcing construction in earthquake zones instead of sitting around waiting in vain for something to change.

Because getting down on your knees and making wishes to Sky Daddy does fuck all to stop a pathogen from living and doing its thing or the tectonic plates from shifting, jackass.

They don't pray for things that they know God can't do. They know God is powerless in His abilities to prevent earthquakes and diseases. They can pray in their multitudes until they are all blue in the face. And the end result? Nothing. Their prayers make not the slightest difference at all. Generally, I derive a small satisfaction from that knowledge and somehow, it kinda consoles me. Heh! Evil! Evil! Evil!

"Maybe non-Christians are the selfish bastards because they refuse to ask God to cure malaria and end earthquakes."

No, we're the ones busy actually devising solutions for these problems. As are many good Christians, Jews, Hindus etc who don't waste time praying.

What is this supposed to be, the fundy equivalent of "I know you are but what am I"?

People have been working to control malaria without god's permission.

Other people have been working to discover reliable precursors to earthquakes, again without god's permission.

"Christians" pray and get nothing for it. Real people focus their energy directly on these matters, and have much more to show for their efforts.

So, non-Christians are selfish because they don't ask got to end malaria or earthquakes...which is different from the Christians in the question how exactly?

Also, if I want something done I don't wait around for some kind of divine intervention, I do it myself. Heard of the phrase "God helps those who help themselves" before?

I always wonder why Christians don't pray for a cure for malaria or an end to earthquakes. Maybe they're just selfish bastards who don't give a damn for anyone but themselves?

Hit the nail right on the head. Christianity are inherently selfish, most prayers take the form "please god can you do X for me" or "I'm so sorry please oh please don't send me to hell". The motivation behind everything from good works to seeking converts isn't being good for it's own sake but instead to keep "god" happy so he won't send them to hell. And if keeping "god" happy requires them to commit some of the most heinious acts imaginable then so be it.

Maybe non-Christians are the selfish bastards because they refuse to ask God to cure malaria and end earthquakes.

I doubt that. Given the constant rate of failure exhibited by prayer. Atheists don't bother wasting the time petitioning a "god" they don't believe in with prayers they know will not, and cannot be answered. Every minute you people waste on ineffectual prayers is a minute that would have been better spent making an actual difference in the world. Hands that help are infinetly better than hands that pray.

Maybe non-Christians are the selfish bastards because they refuse to ask God to cure malaria and end earthquakes.

So, your defense for your inaction is to criticize non-believers for not doing what it is you were supposed to do.

Let's see what Jesus has to say about this, shall we?

Matthew 25:41-46:

41"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

44"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

45"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.'

46"Then they will go away to eternal punishment,

Interestingly enough, further up in Chapter 25, the King (that is Jesus) makes it clear that he is talking to his subjects (that is, folks in his kingdom-ie, Christians). I will leave you to speculate on what this means for your eternal destination...
