Quote# 64499

*obama: I want this done NOW!*

Anybody else see a problem here? This is what he is saying to congress. Last I checked there are three, co-equal branches of government.

I know he has little regard for the constitution but someone should at least remind him that the congress is not supposed to be his lap dog, and they should not be ordered around. If congress had a backbone they would say they are all for his plan, but push back and not be expected to take orders.

Can anyone imagine how apoplectic the media would have been if GW had said such a thing? Congress, the alphabet soup news agencies, the daily kook, airhead aremica, huffington post, etc. etc. They would have been screaming from the rooftop about GW is hitler, and dictator, yada, yada. But when lord obama says it, not a whimper.

Here are the people that need to hear from us. As far as the House is concerned these people are all that stand in the way of us and the first hurdle of obamacare.

This is the death of our republic unfolding before our eyes. Welcome to obamaland 2009

so he's doing what GW never had the spine too, and is getting something done.

@#997740
"Its that they are screaming about the death of our country because he's president. If you know anyone that screamed and freaked out that way when Bush was president, submit it."

I don't know, sometimes I did wonder if the death of the country was exactly what Bush was aiming for. We're not dead, though, just critically wounded.

@Vince, 997740
Of course, it would be nice if he'd do something that wouldn't further cripple us...

I see plenty of fail in this, but nothing particularly fundie. Of course, the guy almost certainly is a fundie since this came from RR, but there's nothing referencing religion in this quote, as far as I can see.

The point is that this shit NEEDS to get done now. Congress hasn't been doing its job. Obama wants it to.

Little regard for the Constitution? Must be why he taught Constitutional Law at Uni.of Chicago for years. We won, you lost. Give it a rest.

Only to you Repubicans, neocons & fundies. Oh, and you forgot to add '...and GOP' after 'republic'. Because that's what's happening to your beloved political party (and your true God): DYING.

Good.

Not so fundie, just some of the RR clientele reading too much into words by Obama.

GWB to Congress, when they were refusing to draft to a Constitution-shredding bill he was demanding: "I'll SEE YOU at the bill signing".

GWB to the whole country" "The Constitution is just a piece of paper".

He also issued over a thousand signing statements on bills sent to him by Congress, in effect exempting himself from having to follow laws they enacted.

The list goes on. You just think it didn't happen because they didn't tell you about it on Fox News.

Gosh, a leader taking a stand. Who'd'athunkit?

Last I checked there are three, co-equal branches of government.

They're not really co-equal. They're separate functions completely. See, co-equal implies that they all have the same level of authority. They don't. The President can't, for example, declare official war. He can't make legislation on his own, and he can't make a decision on legislation, either.

Congress, while it can make legislation and declare war, can't execute it's decisions. Also, they can't decide whether a law is constitutional or not.

The Supreme Court, of course has only one function-to determine whether or not laws are constitutional. It can't pass laws, it can't declare war, and it can't execute them.

Each one of them acts as a balance on the other two, but they're not "co-equal."

I know he has little regard for the constitution

Compared to your boy Bush, Obama is George freakin' Washington!

but someone should at least remind him that the congress is not supposed to be his lap dog, and they should not be ordered around. If congress had a backbone they would say they are all for his plan, but push back and not be expected to take orders.

You're absolutely right. Congress is not the President's lapdog, and they really should debate any legislation before it is passed. However, there's nothing wrong with the President saying to them, "Hey guys, this is important. Get it done."

Actually, when Bush did it, the media was so damned scared, they kept their mouths shut. Hell, it took Stephen Colbert to finally announce that the Emperor had no clothes and the media were wussies. The media actually yelled at him for it, to.

Trust me OWL, our republic has survived much worse. Take, for example, the years 2000 through 2008.
