No, that's what happens now. Obama's plan is to stop companies from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions. Under the present system, companies can deny coverage after you've already become sick, claiming it was pre-existing.

The government hospitals offer quite a bit of help to the disabled in form of assistants, therapy and other stuff that actually work. And it's quite a bit cheaper than the american system.
You know, if the moRRons spent half the effort they do coming up with new ways to talk about Obama without saying his name as it actually is on learning about reality, the forum would collapse from inactivity.
Oh, and more lies about the health care bill? Just shut up already. There are a couple legitimate arguments of concern about it, but they aren't nearly enough to make it a bad system compared to what we have already.

I live several thousand miles away, and even I know that Obama is not promoting euthanasia for the elderly. Quite the contrary; he want's them to be able to write a living will about what kind of life-sustaining treatments they want, if they get terminally ill.
We have government run health care here, and no-one is MAKING anyone terminate any pregnancies. The parents are given the option, sure, but it's their choice.
I would give the man the benefit of a doubt, and say that the partial birth abortions are probably only performed when there is no chance of the baby having a life. Maybe it's going to be riddled with excrutiating pain for a week or two before an inevitable death, or the fetus has not developed a brain, or stomach wall or face, or something like that. Lesser of two evils is probably the key, here as in most abortions.
I was born into a country with nationalized health care. I grew up across the street from a girl who was born blind and with down syndrome. There was a boy down the street who only had one arm. Funnily enough these children were not only allowed to be born (i.e. you're full of shit) they were cared for with the best medical equipment and services available to man (so, you're full of shit).
On another note, I can see (don't know if it happens) a private insurance company denying a mother care if she's got a disabled baby (cost effectiveness and all). I'm thinking of the movie "John Q." when I say this.
Actually government run healthcare would insure that the child got healthcare no matter what. And that the woman would have had adequate prenatal care as to prevent the pregnancy.
Because not all disorders are diabetes, some are things like Edward's Syndrome which is horrible.
You're right to be scared. We have universal health care in Canada and the elderly are being put to death on a regular basis. Children born with disabilities are left exposed to the elements rather than cared for, and...
A fair amount of the people screaming socialism, evil yurop, all that just have no clue what they're talking about thanks to ignorance and the party line. What happens when politics turns into more of an advertising campaign than a discussion about what's best for the country.
Basic facts - We spend a higher percentage of taxes on healthcare than pretty much all socialized programs do, we spend twice as much overall compared to these other socialized programs, and both of these factors do not lead to overall better health (in fact we're lagging behind a bit but not much). And the most basic fact, denying people quality healthcare because they're poor and bankrupting people with more debilitating issues is just plain wrong.
Meanwhile, the media and our politics are more interested in this bullshit about 'THIS HEALTHCARE PLAN WILL KILL OLD PEOPLE AND RAPE BABIES.'

All that shit is much more likely to happen as long as your "health care" is in the hands of for-profit insurance companies.
"Health insurance" is for people who never get sick--because as soon as you get sick, they will do their damnedest to find a reason not to pay your medical bills, or to pay as little as possible, and stick you with the biggest co-pays and deductibles that they can get away with.
We will never have true health care reform in this country until the for-profit insurance companies are put out of business. They know it, and they are scared shitless of it. And all or almost all of the Republican Congress critters (House & Senate)are on the payrolls of insurance/pharmaceutical companies (by way of huge campaign donations), and a lot of the Democrats are as well.
We're never going to have real change of any kind in this country until the people we elect to represent us actually start to make some decisions and cast some votes based on what benefits the people, not what benefits the corporations.
You asshat fundies are incredible. My daughter has affixiation issues and guess what, the insurance companies won't pay for even half of her care, meanwhile, it's bankrupting me to the point of poverty. Because not only do I have to keep paying ridiculous insurance premiums, I also have to foot the bill for all of her care on top of that. This isn't right.
