I am sure you have noticed how terrible the news is. I get on-line to see the daily news and it is terrible. I have some old newspapers from the 60's and the news was very very calm compared to what it is now. I wonder how bad it will get before Jesus comes and rescues us from all of this?

You Raptards are getting a tad bit predictable.
Well, since Jesus isn't ever going to come -- I suppose it will just keep getting worse and worse.
Uh, huh. The Cuban Missile Crisis, a presidential assassination, murder of several civil rights leaders, assassination of the president was assassinated's brother, an extremely unpopular war/draft, inner city riots, take over by hippies, the 1968 Democratic National Convention, moon landings, tripping out at Woodstock, then hanging out at a concert where security is provided by Hell's Angels is totally passe.
Very bad. So bad, in fact, that the human race will long be extinct when the rapture is due in 10 billion, billion, trillion years.
I have some old newspapers from the 60's and the news was very very calm compared to what it is now.
Yes, because war, racial riots, assassinations, and rapid drug use were "calm".
Well, I'm sure the news was pretty bad when Vesuvius erupted. Or during the Civil War. Or the Bubonic Plague. Imagining living through THAT day after day after day. By comparison, the present time is pretty idyllic.
what paper did you fucking read?
ever heard of the vietnam war? the cuban missile crisis? hippies?
the news is practically a picnic today. of course your thin little brain might think that though.
the news has gravitated towards panic mongering and alarmism of late to bump ratings.
The Vietnam war was calm? The Vets want a word with you...
I wouldn't think that the JFK assassination was calm either. Oh that's right, you "pro-lifers" love it when a Democratic President is murdered.
Well, jeebus didnt rescue us when xians were busy burning witches at the stake. Nor was it bad enough for jeebus to intervene as millions were exterminated in nazi death camps. So, I wouldnt worry too much about jeebus coming to the rescue anytime soon.
Cuban missile crisis, Soviet tanks in Prague, American U-2 spy plane downed over the USSR, the world literally on the brink of nuclear holocaust...
Yeah... so much more calm.
I grew up in 1980s West Germany and I had fucking nuclear war heads pointed at my city. The 2000s are a walk in the park compared to the cold war. But memories are short, I see.
Old Viking - you remember the sixties? You obviously weren't there!
IMSAVED: The whole history of the world has been a progression from more violent to less violent. You are living in the safest time EVER.
I know, I know, annoying when facts get in the way of a delusion. Sorry 'bout that.
Yeah, those calm days of the 1960's;
Wikipedia: The 1960s have become synonymous with all the new, exciting, radical, and subversive events and trends of the period, which continued to develop in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and beyond. In Africa the 1960s was a period of radical political change as 32 countries gained independence from their European colonial rulers.
Ask the Kennedys if they think it was a calm decade.
The pill came then, and the feminist movement, we walked on the moon for the first time, the first heart transplant was done. Oh, and the cold war was "calmly" threathening us with total nuclear holocaust.
Just because the news meda wasn't as fearmongering as they are today, doesn't mean that the actual news where calmer. How many old newspapers do you have, btw; three, four, ten? One paper each morning makes 3650, I bet you haven't got that many, do you?
Ah, the '60s. The music was better, I'll grant you that. And I certainly found them calm ... mind you, I was only ten when they ended, and I spent the whole decade in a quiet North London suburb, so what do I know?
What paper was it, anyway? The Power Cable (Nebraska) Gazette, or something?
In the 60's.. there was war in Vietnam... JFK, MLK and Bobby Kennedy were assinated, the world was in the brink of Nuclear War, people were fighting for civil rights, the UK was nearly bankrupt...I was born in 72 and I know the 60's were not that golden...
"Some newspaers"
Try looking at the library for major newspapers files, then look in the world news sections.
Kent state and vietnam were calm periods?
Let's see now.
Vietnam.
The Civil Rights movement.
The Sexual Revolution.
The Manson family.
Were you talking about the 1860s?
No, that was the Civil War...westward expansion...Indian wars.
The 1760s?
No, that's when we were working up to declaring independence from Britain.
The 1660s?
Off the top of my head I can't recall what specifically was going on then. Perhaps bubonic plague? At any rate, I think you see where I am going with this.
I wonder how bad it will get before Jesus comes and rescues us from all of this?
This is part of their attitude that really gets to me. Sure, we have massive problems today with global warming, environmental collapse, poverty, HIV/AIDS, etc., etc. That's all serious as hell. But we also live in an age of accelerating discovery and invention in ICT, medicine, science, agriculture, energy... The future's wide open, and our big break could be right around the corner.
But the fundies only see doom'n'gloom, a relentlessly downward spiral everywhere they look, and they WANT it that way. If life gets better, that means Jebus ain't comin'. Life has to get worse in order for their fantasy to come true. So they walk around wearing charcoal glasses, unable to see any glimmer of light, because hope is a BAD thing.
It makes me sick.
Well, obviously those newspapers were not from the mid- to late-60s because that was a really tumultous time ...
Oh fuck it, you're a retard and not worth the time to share rational thoughts and facts with.
That's a common misconception because during that time period a lot of things that were going on (like racially motivated killings/rape) were covered up. Additionally, they didn't have access to worldwide news like they do now, so we couldn't see every horrible thing that was going on. In reality, this sort of coverage has made people aware and helped to reduce these events over time.
@EvoPagan: You're exactly right about the 1660s: We (England) had just regained our king (Charles II) after a short and rather spectacular 11 years as a republic, and guess what happened... in 1665 the Black Death overran the country, killing 40% of the population (imagine 140 million Americans dying in a matter of months now), and if that wasn't enough in 1666 the Great Fire of London destroyed the houses of 90% of Londoners (imagine 7 million NYC homes going up in flames).
And imagine what the Xtians said at the time: Surely this is the end of days, God is sending his wrath upon us, and the apocalypse is nigh.
Oh well...
"I have some old newspapers from the 60's and the news was very very calm compared to what it is now"
What newspapers were these? "Pravda"?! Seems that in your hoemskuling, history was omitted in the curriculum (because it wasn't mentioned/prophesised in the Bible, right?). The Cuban Missile Crisis was in the 60s, and we came that close (*holds up thumb & forefinger *) to being obliterated in a WWIII. Mere minutes away from going to Defcon 1. (JFK had ordered Defcon 2. the only time it's been at that status. Thank fuck it was Khrushchev who blinked first!). Think about that.
"I wonder how bad it will get before Jesus comes and rescues us from all of this?"
In these post-Cold War times, the news is extremely calm today, compared to the 60s. And considering the '(C)Rapture' is an extra-biblical concept created in the mid-1800s by a wackjob Seventh-Day Adventist who had ideas above his station, 'Helter-Skelter' in his eyes and a lust for control-freakery in his mind (& wallet) who wanted more believers, I'd say the chances of that happening are as you finding Invisible Pink Unicorn poo: ZERO .
Just thought I'd let you know.
yeah, it was so calm in the 1960s, what with the spectre of imminent nuclear annihilation, the assassination of jfk, vietnam, the congo, the great leap forward, the prague spring, the 6 day war, che guevara.
So, you selectively scaped 1962 and the missile crisis with Cuba, 1963 with Kennedy´s death, 1966 and the racial riots.............let alone 1967 and the Vietnam war. Very quite indeed.
Jesus is never coming back. You are going to die one day, be it of accident, disease or old age, and the world is going to go on as it ever did until that day comes.
Unless we're all hit by an asteroid of course.
Confused?
