"Darwin wrote in his private notebooks that he was a materialist, which is a type of atheist."
WRRRONG. Atheism is the lack of belief in a deity, nothing more. Materialism is the point of view that there only thing that actually exists is the world we observe around us. Since most Christians are dead set on the idea of their deity doing things for them and others in our reality, they can just as easily be materialists... technically.
"Charles Darwin’s casual mentioning of a ‘creator’ in earlier editions of The Origin of Species appears to have been a merely a deceitful ploy to downplay the implications of his materialistic theory. "

So if living in the suburbs in a big house with lots of children, some big gas-guzzling cars, a few big-screen TVs and whatever else, and going to a huge, gaudy megachurch run by filthy-rich pastors isn't materialism, what is?
8/18/2009 9:16:30 PM
Good peyote is good, eh?
8/18/2009 9:20:27 PM
Because the (arguably) non-biased Wikipedia is so unfair to our beliefs. We must lie to counter their lies!

His theory was proven to be factual. It doesn't matter what he originally wrote about it, what his personal beliefs were, or what went on in his personal life. The evidence backs it up. Get over it.

Read the bible. Jesus was a socialist trying to push free health care for everyone.
Read Acts, where it describes the early Christians living in a commune. Commune, as in communist.
Take that to conservapedia and suck it.
(Whee! Ad hominem attacks are fun!)

That Darwin's evil I tells ya! Evil! Eeeeevil! /Grandpa Simpson

Yeah, Charles Darwin was a theist, hey he was even heading for the Anglican ministry before his voyage on the Beagle. So what? Lots of scientists are Christian. As long as they're not letting their religion cloud their experiments, I don't give a damn what they believe in.

Ad hominem is not a valid tactic, boy. It only makes you look like a complete jerk.

To be fair, Andy Schalfly is a complete jerk.

More proof Conservapedia is about as closely related to the real world as Uncyclopedia is (but arguably funnier).

Materialism is a philosophy which was originated by a very Christian guy like Pierre Gassendi, a priest, or Thomas Hobbes and implemented by Rennee Descartes. If you are going to write an encyclopedia, get your facts straight.

In more fairness than Conservative deserves, this isn't technically an ad hominem, because an ad hominem attacks the person rather than the argument. This article's argument is entirely about deception; therefore it is relevant, if still egregiously written.
Personally, I could never find Conservapedia nearly as funny as Uncyclopedia, because whenever I start enjoying CP, a little voice in the back of my head tells me, "Remember, Wehp, these people actually believe this stuff."

He deceived the lynch mob that wanted to lynch him. Can you tell me who made up this lynch mob? I'll give you a hint. It wasn't materialists.
8/19/2009 5:25:00 AM
Hmm... Darwin was a Christian, so that must have made him a Christian atheist. Don't see too many of those.
Conservapedia... the internet's version of Fox News.
8/19/2009 6:37:32 AM
Darwin, that crafty devil!
Or, you know, he might have changed his mind in light of evidence and the lack thereof, as scientists and heartbroken fathers do.+
8/19/2009 7:34:19 AM
So, wait, if you need to tell blatant lies to counter "liberal bias," doesn't that mean reality has a liberal bias? Except, given that reality is reality and can't be biased, that would mean that reality is in fact neutral and your lies are a conservative bias. Ah, yes, it all works out just as I suspected.
8/19/2009 7:44:42 AM
Let me repeat: if a theory is valid scientifically, it stands on its own. It does not depend on the religion or lack thereof of its originators/developers.

Conservapedia is the short bus on the information superhighway.
