Modest proposal: we allow homosexual marriage, but ban protease inhibitors, and let Nature take its course. The virus has a right to live too!

Well, I assume there are worldwide more heterosexuals infected with HIV, than there are homosexuals who have the Virus (and if I assume correctly, in contrast to gays, lesbian couples have actually a lower risk of getting HIV, than heterosexuals).
So, well, maybe we should follow your proposal ;)
A virus isn't alive, therefore it has no right to live.
To be classified as living, an organism has to meet 3 requirements...
1) Use energy - virus does not
2) Grow - virus does not
3) Reproduce itself - virus does not (the protein coat of the virus is shaped right to fit into a site on a certain cell type in a certain group of organisms, the virus DNA is engulfed into the cell (putting it very very simply) and the cell makes copies of the virus. The virus itself cannot reproduce)
Like SurfinSeaOtter states, a virus isn't really a living thing, and if you think that somehow allowing gay marriage will actually kill off all the homosexuals via spreading the HIV virus and not giving them HAART treatment because you think they are sexually immoral and don't deserve treatment, I highly suggest you look on the staight side and see all the problems there before you give judgement on the other side.
That and your proposal isn't going to work the way you want it to.
Modest refusal: No.
Modest response: (Even shorter, therefore more modest than yours) Allow homosexual marriage.
Insane proposal: We allow virus marriage, and ban homosexual inhibitors, and film the whole thing and post it on the internet.
A Modest Proposal was sarcasm, sir. A topic with which you seem unfamiliar.
Therefore, you eat Irish babies and are not welcome to give opinions on things.
Right, and explain to me how having one same-sex partner causes you to get AIDS again?
Maybe because you can't get it that way, hmm?
heres a modest propsal:how about we let gay folks get married and get the needed meds, but we eat all the christian children?
i mean with all the ideas you guys have and will teach your children, no one should have a problem with my idea. after all your children are all too stupid to live anyway.
edit:after looking at the whole post on that site, apparently everyone of those morons can't understand parody.
the original is still a stupid propaganda scare piece that deserves to be parodied
@Dr. Razark:
I bet that video would go... dare I say it... viral!
Oh, come on, stop the booing, someone had to say it. I'm just glad I got to it first.
Every virus? Have fun dying of measles, smallpox, ebola and SARS.
I see no connection whatsoever between homosexual marriage and viruses. Most people getting sick from viruses are heterosexual, most people getting married are heterosexual, there seems to be a stronger correlation there.
Ahaa, now I get it; you think that in allowing gay people to marry and promise to stay with one person for the rest of their lives, more people will contract AIDS.
Huh? Are you sure you thought this thing through properly before posting it?
1. You are aware that not all gays have HIV/AIDS
2. You are aware that many straight people have HIV/AIDS
3. You are aware that protease inhibitors are used in the treatment of several other viruses?
Oh, wait you're not. Ok than shut up.
Well, in that case, you´ll be responsible for the death of children, women and regular guys who got the wrong transfusion. Hey, the viri are not politically correct, you know.
ban protease inhibitors?
Enjoy your ebola.
Surprised no one has yet pointed out the rates of heterosexual HIV/AIDS cases in marriage tends to come from cheating, yet I believe that there are studies showing that homosexual couples (at least in this phase where it is very hard to get married) have a much lower cheating rate - and one could guess that means a lower rate of STDs in general introduced into the marriage. You could probably say, with a bit of research, the hetero marriage has a higher risk of AIDS than the homosexual couple - but it would take some more reading than I feel like right now.
"The virus" doesn't fit the technical definition of life, so...yeah. Here's a better idea: we allow homosexual marriage, and ban discrimination against homosexuals so that we can have something like real equal treatment.
Modest counter-proposal:
Die in a fire!
When I saw two gay men who live in my condo at the supermarket, I was a little surprised because they do argue all the time (and gay marriage isn't legal in Virginia). I said, "Oh, you're still together?" and one of them patted me on the shoulder, saying, "AIDS, you know, my dear, AIDS!"
I expect if we allow homosexual marriage, the rate of HIV among gays would probably go down. If we ban protease inhibitors, a lot of gay and straight people will certainly die.
Airtight logic there, Jay.
What a kind individual, letting viruses reach almost-life through him, even at the cost of his own. No medicine for this man, no!
Yeah, right.
Modest proposal: We allow people to live in Jesusland, but ban tornado insurance and let nature take its course. Oh, but that's completely different, isn't it?
By the way, my partner and I are both HIV-negative gay men. (disappears in a puff of right-wing dogma)
The virus doesn't give a rat's butt whether you're gay, straight, male, female, white, black or in some cases, even human. Fatal viruses are never good allies and biological warfare is never a good idea. Remember the story about the horse, the lion and the man?
@ John.
No, actually, I remember the one about the wolf, chicken and head of cabbage, and the one about a priest and two rednecks...
tell me about the horse, lion and man...
(does the horse pull them out of a pile of bullshit with his dick?)
Right, because the gays who want to settle down in committed monogamous relationships are the ones who will catch HIV, lol!
Also, it's been said before but... VIRUSES ARE NOT ALIVE!
A microbiologist knows a virus isn't alive, an evolutionary biologist on the other hand has to argue its alive so they can still whine bitch and complain that they're pivotal to biology.
Not saying that evolution isn't pivotal, I'm just saying I'm sick of people trying to act like its the ONLY thing in biology.
Edit: This is considering that I do biotechnology and will eventually make human biological evolution redundant.
Edit edit: By biological evolution I mean natural selection. It will be overtaken by artificial selection eventually.
we allow homosexual marriage, but ban protease inhibitors, and let Nature take its course.
Actually, globally, more hetrosexuals have HIV than homosexuls. Just look at the continent of Africa.
The virus has a right to live too!
A virus isn't alive.
lol, what? Under the definition of life, viruses aren't it. Even if they were, they hijack other cell's machinery to reproduce - that's akin to microscopic rape in my opinion.
Oh, fundies: you and your adorably apocalyptic, hate-infested solutions to the evils of the gay agenda. So I suppose when heterosexuals marry, the virus should still go untreated? How about when it's spread through blood tranfusions and needles? Does anyone at Moonbattery (or the right wing in general) even KNOW how viruses work and are spread? You disgusting, bile-spewing cocksucker. If this is how you view the rights of your fellow citizens, gay or straight, I pray you and your cohort Van Helsing don't get a lick of decent health care should you come down with an illness. Sickness has a right to live too!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
