"Homosexuals – and IV drug users – brought AIDS on themselves, and I have only a little sympathy for them. They fall in the same category as winners of Darwin Awards."
1. We have known since 1984 how AIDS is transmitted. The people who caught it prior to 1984 are dead. If people get AIDS from sex or sharing needles, they are responsible for their own condition.
2. There is a part of the Homosexual subculture that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV.

Point 2 is true, if you remake it into "There is a SMALL subculture composed of homosexual men that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV."
It's disturbing, but true. They call themselves "Bug Chasers", and from there google is your friend.
Otherwise: Nuts. Complete moonbattery. Man that joke is getting old, but still.

And to be fair...they don't "fetishize" it easier. I've heard it said as, essentially, you're rolling the dice any time you have sex with someone (Gay or straight, Gregory, dearest...) and in some cases, see infection as a virtual inevitability, so might as well get it over with, and have the ability to bareback, and not worry about those pesky condoms messing up your sex, either. Horribly, horribly irresponsible, but yeah.
Now that said, I heard about this ages ago, and I may be a bit off, but...yeah. Hardly a fetish, and more an effort in pragmatism gone horribly, horribly south.
And also, Gregory...what about the people that were raped and got HIV as a result? And the ones who were born with it? And the ones who got it from blood transfusions? They deserve no sympathy?

You're a freaking idiot. Some people get AIDS from blood transfusions, and babies are born with AIDS because their mothers had it. Nurses have gotten it from working with patients. And yes, it's stupid to have unprotected sex or share needles, but do you also feel no sympathy for people who tanned and got skin cancer?
2. There is a part of the Homosexual subculture that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV.
That's a very small group of people, and the rest of the gay culture looks down on them for being dumb.
The sad part is, while both of Gregory's first point sounds morally reprehensible and both points are phrased in a somewhat misleading way, nothing he has said is technically untrue (though an argument could be made against sentence 3 of point 1). :(
As much as I hate to admit it, this stuff is true. This guy could be less of a dick about it, though. Almost everyone who gets infected with HIV anymore, does so because they don't practice basic caution.
I still feel bad for them and they do deserve care simply for the reason they are human like you or I.
What about the children who got it from their parents or the people who got the wrong transfusion or during a medical procedure?. I thought that you KNEW how AIDS is transmitted. Well, when I saw the second one, I thought, maybe not that well.
"There is a part of the Homosexual subculture that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV. "
There's been a grand total of about 2 cases of this actually happening, (in fact, I think one of them was straight anyway), and both got put away for a very long time. It's hardly an epidemic.
Ah, yes, that very small self-hating sect of gay men, the gift-givers and bug-chasers. Wanna know why they hate themselves enough to do something like that? Bigots like you putting them down, thus you are a more active participant in that subculture than the average gay man.
Hm, I have to agree with his comments insofar as dangerous behavior (unprotected sex, neeldes sharing) will incrase your risk of getting AIDS.
But of course 1. also applies to heterosexuals.
As for 2., there are also heterosexuals who do such a thing, I know of an infected woman who would even go so far as to try to persuade men, not to use condomes for sex with with her. I´m not sure however if infected heterosexuals who deliberately spread AIDS also form some kind of subculture among heterosexuals. But at least they exist...arse holeness is independent from sexuality ;)
I can just feel that Christian compassion. Just like Jesus with the woman taken in sin (fucking). Jesus said: "Give me the first stone to bash this harlot over the head".
Yeah, well... I've been reading too much of what fundies say.
And I guess people who got it from infected blood transfusions, accidental needle sticks, or babies born with it are just some of God's collateral damage?
And I've heard heterosexual males in the past say that if they got HIV they'd go have unprotected sex with as many people as they could in order to spread it around, so it's not limited to homosexuals.
If people get AIDS from sex or sharing needles, they are responsible for their own condition.
And if they contract HIV unintentionally?
There is a part of the Homosexual subculture that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV.
True, but those people can be prosecuted for homicide if not assault at the least.
2. There is a part of the heterosexual subculture that fetishizes amputees. This has occasionally reached the point where people have amputated their own limbs because they find it sexy.
Weird self-destructive fetishes are present outside of homosexuality.
"There is a part of the Homosexual subculture that fetishizes the deliberate infecting of one's self and others with HIV."
That's ALMOST correct. First, it's a so tiny minortiy.
Second, it's NOT restricted to gays. Hetereos do it too. And whoever does that deserves to go to jail when caught.
You're mentioning the "Darwin" Awards?
They'll take away your Fundie membership card for mentioning the Satanic Founder of the Cult of Evolution, you know.
1. If people are careless when they have sex, then they deserve what they get. But what about the people who get HIV from being raped? What about the babies who catch it from their mothers during the birth process? What did THEY do to deserve such a horrible disease?
2. This is true. However, that doesn't make all homosexuals evil. There are some Christians who drank the Kool-Aid too.
Man, there are people who inflate themselves with a bicycle pump and others think hot, crunchy cannibalism is the sexiest thing ever. What crazy people have fetishes about is not apt for generalizations.
Re:This thread
1) My Haemophiliac Brother in Law, who caught HIV, from contaminated Factor VIII, imported into the U.K, from the U.S, & used to treat his condition, in the early 1980's, would like to dispute your first claim...
(Mind you, given his current medical condition, he would probably ask his carer, to insert his carbon fibre crutch, that he uses to get around with, laterally into your rectum, rather than do this unpleasant task himself, though he would take pictures of said insertion for the photo album...).
Yeah! and what about those car accident victims, eh? Self inflicted every one of them. I have only a little sympathy for them. They fall into the same category as winners of Darwin Awards.
1. We've known since 1869 that cars can cause injury or death. If people get injured from driving in cars, or being near roads, they are responsible for their own condition.
2. There is a part of the car drivers subculture that fetishizes deliberately driving fast and at risk of harm to self and others.
</analogy>
I know Greg wouldn't agree it's a fair analogy, because the bit he was implying without having the integrity to say it, was that in the case of HIV it's a sort of karmic revenge for people's naughtiness. Because gay sex is forbidden in his Big Book of Bronze Age Fairytales.
However, he can't consistently use that as his excuse. That book is in favour of the only drug it mentions, which is alcohol. Jesus book-ended his ministry with alcohol, his first and last miracles involved wine.
Confused?
