Quote# 64974

We are hearing today of religious pluralism — that all religions are the same. And they would have us believe that Islam is just as good as Christianity. But I’m here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that Islam is not just as good as Christianity. Christianity was founded by the virgin-born Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ. Islam was founded by Muhammad, a demon-possessed pedophile who had twelve wives and his last one was a nine year old girl. And I want to tell you, Allah is not Jehovah either. Jehovah is not going to turn you into a terrorist that will try to bomb people and take the lives of thousands and thousands of people.

"Jehovah is not going to turn you into a terrorist that will try to bomb people and take the lives of thousands and thousands of people."

They might only bomb a few people at a time at abortion clinics instead.

Mister Spak

Christianism was founded by a sex and death crazed Roman dictator. Islam was founded by the real god. Christianism is just not as good as islam.

"virgin-born Son of God"

I always thought that if God himself makes you pregnant, you'd be as far away from virginity as you could get.I mean its GOD, damn it!

Oh and Muhammed only ever had 4 wives.

Whereas your religion is based on the teachings of Jesus, someone who probably never actually existed as a person. Rather is a collection of rehashed older stories stolen from other religions/cults of that time and ascribed to the fictional life of Jesus.

"Muhammad [...] had twelve wives"

Yeah, Jacob had only two, but also slept with their maidservants. That's like totally excusable.

"Jehovah is not going to turn you into a terrorist that will try to bomb people..."

Unless it's an abortion clinic.

That about says it all really.

If these fundies want to claim the USA (and the western world) is founded in Christianity then they should blame Christianity for Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan and claim all of those deaths (and millions more) in the name of Christianity.

These idiots are very selective in what they think is their religions doing and what they say is nothing to do with their religion.

I'm as anti-fundie as the next guy here, but I don't see how you can blame Christianity for the use of the atomic bomb at the end of World War II, or for any of the things that you named.

The atomic bomb was intended for use in Germany (which last time I checked was a predominantly Christian nation), however, they surrendered to the allies before the first US nuclear test. Furthermore, Japan sure as hell wasn't the victim in World War II, just talk to the people of Manchuria (1931), Han China (1933), Nanjing (1937), Burma, Indo-China, the Philippines (1941), and Hawaii (1941).

In Korea, the reason the United States got involved over there is because the communist North (with the explict permission of Stalin) invaded the south and the whole reason it was divided in the first place was because of the fact that Japan colonized it, and the US and USSR were too lazy to work out a deal for the whole country after World War II.

While the US stumbled itself into Vietnam, our mission wasn't to spread Christianity there, it just wasn't very clear.

I agree that the Iraq war was a horrible decision by Bush, but that was over oil, not to spread Christianity to them.

As for Afghanistan, last time I checked guess where Bin Ladin is believed to have planned 9/11 from, you don't think that the USA is justified in attempting to apprehend him, as well as the various terrorist leaders attempting to destabilize that region?

I'm not saying that religion wasn't something that our leaders, policy makers, and solders haven't used in justifying their policies or beliefs. In fact, its sometimes used inappropriately, however, they are just as human as everybody else, and many humans often use religion, either for good or for ill, in their decision making processes. However, when you look at the underlying causes for World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, it is clear that we are not there because we wanted to convert them, or that God "told" us to do so.

Jehovah just wants you to shoot up abortion clinics and tie faggots to fences on the frozen prairies and leave them to die. Not to mention forcing everyone else to live by your asinine bronze-age "morality" where women are responsible for their own rapes and can't even get emergency contraception because that would be murder. Really, what's the difference between you and the terrorists again?

8/19/2009 7:04:46 AM

Doctor Whom

The Crusades. The Inquisition. The "conversion" of indigenous people in the colonies. Northern Ireland.

Oh, but those weren't True Christians™? Then you've waived the argument that Western civilization is founded on Christianity.

Phed

Though religions maybe equally untrue and we can find psychos and saints in all of them I think it is intellectually lazy, dishonest and ultimately dangerous to label all of them 'the same'. They are not.

There is a huge difference in believing the 8 fold path of Buddhism or in believing that Jihad against your infidel neighbours is your ticket to eternal bliss.

There is a more than subtle difference in believing that once you are married you shouldn't divorce - ever or in believing it is okay to marry and have sex with a nine year old girl.

There is a difference between believing that your religion is superior and others should work impossibly hard to enter it or in believing that your religion is superior and others should be converted at the tip of a sword.

The general nature of Islam is different from the general nature of Jainism or Shintoism or even mainstream Christianity.

@ jsonitsac

I am not blaming them (christianity or fundamentalists)for anything. I am pointing out that on one hand they claim US is founded on Christianity and they claim all the morality, but on the other they say Christianity is nothing to do with some of the shamefull things the USA has done or indeed that christianity has done.

You misread my post or I didnt articulate what I meant very well.

"We are hearing today of religious pluralism — that all religions are the same."

Well, they are the same, though not for the reasons such people claim.

"And they would have us believe that Islam is just as good as Christianity."

They're both equally useless, pointless and untrue. So, yeah. I guess they are both "just as good" as the other.

"But I’m here to tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that Islam is not just as good as Christianity."

Sure, sure. Your brand of crazy is much better than their brand of crazy, is that it?

"Christianity was founded by the virgin-born Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Yeah? What evidence are you using to come to that conclusion? Note I said "evidence", not "speculative bullshit written by barely literate and extremely ignorant Bronze Age simpletons."

"Islam was founded by Muhammad, a demon-possessed pedophile who had twelve wives and his last one was a nine year old girl."

At least he existed. Existence trumps non-existence every time so if I had to choose between the two religions I'd go with the one that at least has some sort of evidence regarding its founder's existence.

"And I want to tell you, Allah is not Jehovah either."

Bull. Shit.

"Jehovah is not going to turn you into a terrorist that will try to bomb people and take the lives of thousands and thousands of people."

Bull. Shit. Again.

Read your fucking Bible. He did just that, numerous times (sans bombs, of course) in the OT.

Start with 1 Samuel 15:2-3

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
