Quote# 65029

If the Family men who stood over John Ensign as he wrote a baldly insincere breakup letter to his mistress were naive about hearts that want what they want, they don't claim ignorance about the strongmen with whom they build bonds of prayer and foreign aid. They admire them. Counseling Rep. Tiahrt, Doug Coe offered Pol Pot and Osama bin Laden as men whose commitment to their causes is to be emulated. Preaching on the meaning of Christ's words, he says, "You know Jesus said 'You got to put Him before mother-father-brother sister? Hitler, Lenin, Mao, that's what they taught the kids. Mao even had the kids killing their own mother and father. But it wasn't murder. It was for building the new nation. The new kingdom."

D Laurier.

Ok, I think this guy is saying that killing ones family is a good thing...

Which makes him very fucked up

8/28/2009 3:49:19 PM

My family comes first, thx, and your sky-daddy can go fuck himself. Unless and until he proves his existence, he doesn't matter.

Hitler, Lenin, and Mao are prime examples of the cult of personality, much like your Christ.

Rat of Steel

Who to the what now?

8/28/2009 4:44:45 PM

Sorry, but why would you put someone who lived 2000 years ago (if he even existed) ahead of your family who is alive and well and in the present?

Jeff, I feel for your mother, father, sister, brother, wife and children.

What if they do you in before you can do them in? You couldn't possibly be mad, they are only doing what Jesus told them. Putting him before you. What goes around, comes around.

Zeus Almighty

@ Ozzie

Whoa, folks. Jeff Sharlett wrote a book called "The Family." He actually went undercover and lived in the house in Washington led by Doug Coe. Those people believe that the rich and powerful are that way because Jeebus made them that way, and thus they are supposed to rule on Earth. (Kind of like the justification given for kings' ruling). They also look to "strong" leaders like Hitler and Pol Pot as examples of the kind of enlightened leadership Jebus respects. A biblical example is David, who although an immoral man was chosen by god to rule.
In one case while Sharlett was there, Coe asked a member what he (Coe) would think of him if he raped little kids, and the member said he would think he was a bad person. Coe said no, he wouldn't be a bad person if he fucked kids because the normal rules don't apply the Family.
A number of Republican elected officials have lived at the group's compound, including Ensign.

The book is a very eye-opening read.

So you (members of the family) think Jesus would condone Patri-/Matricide?
You sound more sick in the head than most other religious fundamentalists (including the muslim ones)

8/28/2009 6:25:57 PM

Jeff, you wouldn't know Jesus if you bumped into him on the street!

8/28/2009 9:22:18 PM

Just to add to what Zeus Almighty said: These people believe that if/when someone achieves a position of leadership, that 'God' must have put them there. Therefore, they are one of God's "chosen" and God supposedly approves of everything they have done and will do.

They idolise dictators like Hitler, Pol Pot, etc because they believe that these people's positions of power could have only come from their god. It's a sick and twisted view of the world. And as Zeus said, several Republican politicians are members of this group. Although, somehow, it's not so surprising.

Anyway, isn't "The Family" the child fuckers who get away with it because it's freedom of religion?

8/28/2009 11:59:32 PM

Fuck that shit.

8/29/2009 1:50:13 AM

In case you are wondering, the article also says the Family likes to call itself a Christian Mafia.

8/29/2009 6:16:39 AM

Too early for salad.

8/29/2009 9:33:40 AM

Well, it's just that Jesus didn't mean to kill people en masse. Try a better argument.

8/29/2009 9:43:00 AM

Are there no nuthouses in America any more? This one is more than ripe enought to qualify.

8/29/2009 12:35:35 PM

FYI:Jeff isn't the fundy here, he's just the reporter. Doug Coe is the fundy.

8/30/2009 6:49:58 PM

So much fail... You know I'm actually begining to pity Jesus. When will people stop putting words in his mouth. I'm happily Pagan, but Jesus was a lot groovier than his so called followers give him credit for. Plus I'm pretty sure he didn't say shit about Hitler, Lenin or Mao, or you know kids killing their parents! But hey you're Christian so I'm sure know much better than me.

8/30/2009 6:57:32 PM

Doubting Thomas

So, Jesus is basically similar to Pol Pot, Osama Bin Laden & Hitler? People who didn't have any problem with killing other people?

8/30/2009 7:54:31 PM

Philbert McAdamia

Jeff wouldn't know Jesus if he bit him on the ass.

8/30/2009 8:07:42 PM

I don't know about patricide/matricide, but in Luke 14:26 he pretty blatantly says that one cannot be his disciple if one doesn't hate his parents. FWIW.

Dr. Novakaine

Outrageous. Atrocious. Abhorrent. I can't think or write enough words to express my disgust with these people. Only the most vile people imaginable could idolize some of the most vile people in history.

8/31/2009 7:49:52 AM

Hey idiots, do some homework rather than flaming jeff sharlet. If you haven't been corrected this statement is related to a secret conservative group known as "The Family". Jeff Sharlet is not in support of this loony right wing group, he opposes them as he should. Generally I agree with what's said on here but this time you all fucked up.
