Not one Canadian bank failed in the recent economic unpleasantness, and none needed government bailouts. In fact, Canadian banks have been buying up American financial institutions. Ever hear of TD Ameritrade? TD stands for Toronto Dominion. CIBC Mellon? Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. The only reason a Canadian bank like Scotia didn't buy, say, Citibank was that they were blocked from doing so by US legislators.
Entrepreneurship seems to be alive and well up here...
