Quote# 6528Demons.. are they real?
... I'd really love to hear from Atheists on this one, and also get some help from brothers and sisters who can help back me up. I wanted to start this thread because to me, the presence of demons is one of the most obvious proofs to show that Christianity is no lie...I have an evangelist friend... God gave him the power to cast out demons, which he did whenever he could, and he has so many amazing stories about people he came across. Some were healed.. some were converted from Satanism... my friend and another woman had a prayer meeting, and out of the blue, a really low man's voice started coming out of my friend's stomach... Our evangelist friend talked to this thing, binded it in the name of Jesus, and asked it it's name. It said 'fear', and as the other woman present got freaked out they couldn't get it to leave...As I am sure my friend isn't lying, and there are thousands of these stories happen every day, we can assume people at least see and hear these things. But is it really a mass delusion? Was Jesus having delusions too? After all, if he had failed to do miracles then I doubt so many would have followed him... In a world of logic, what is the explanation for these illogical things?

In a word: delusion.

"and out of the blue, a really low man's voice started coming out of my friend's stomach..."
Well, that proves she was wicked hungry. You would have accomplished more with a donut that a prayer session, but whatever...

Never heard that ANECDOTICAL EVIDENCE IS NOT EVIDENCE, specially if it doesn´t happen to people who are not Christians?

"In a world of logic, what is the explanation for these illogical things?"
Psychosis, for one.

"Demons.. are they real?"
No. They're the invention of weak minded imbeciles to blame their problems or shortcomings on anything but themselves.

So, let me see if I have this right: Your friend was really hungry, and his stomach made lots of noises that soundly vaguely like a man's voice, so he went bonkers and tried to bind this sign of hunger in the name of Jesus, but since his stomach kept growling, the other woman went bonkers too and left, not stopping to think that maybe it would help to halt the meeting and grab some takeout BEFORE trying to cast out a 'demon'?
That's just stupid.

I was taught demons were real when I was a kid. I lived in fear that maybe the boogieman under my bed was real and out to get me because I was a good christian. not cool :(

Professor von SCIENCE!!!
You ever notice it only happens to believers? That's because it is a form of cultural psychosis like wendigo and it draws you in. I have no doubt at least some of the exorcisms are real in the minds of the participants (when they aren't selling snake oil) but they are just figments of the mind.
