global warming, terrorism - these are politcal creations with a political agenda, global warming/climate change was created by the club of rome think tank after the west lost communism as their public 'enemy'. The whole idea of there being too many humans is also erroneous - every human on the planet could fit into texas - the truth is the controlling elite are afraid that the cat is out of the bag and we the public will soon turn on them for poisoning us, lying to us, committing illegal wars and stealing our money and resources - this is why they are putting all their efforts into brainwashing and radicalising us against one and other yet again - remember the entire worlds media is controlled by a handful of humans who are chosen to further the agenda of mass depopulation so the elite can enjoy 'their' utopian dream without us the people that they have enslaved for millenia, educate yourselves - dont take anything at face value - we are in a war here for our existence.

They keep pulling out this "Everyone would fit in Texas" bullshit. Even if that were true, it ignores the concept of a carbon footprint. Why can't these nutjobs understand that?

Well, it could be worse. He could be blaming global warming ON communists.

You'd have thought the global elite would want more people to exploit, not less ...

Well, you COULD fit everyone in Texas.

That is, if you ignore the tiny details that people need to breath, eat and other tiny details like that.

"we are in a war here for our existence"

This is true and I commend Steve for this statement. Climate change will affect the planet we live on and it will drive many species -including us - into extinction.

The planet will still be here and life will establish itself again. Eventually.

However, we won't be, you blithering idiot! This is why we have got to reduce or reverse the effects of climate change. This goes beyond political agendas or elites or whatever stuff your fevered mind conjures up. It's a matter of survival for our species.

"every human on the planet could fit into texas"

This is true. Tell me though, how much land would be needed to actually keep these people alive? How much stuff would be needed? And what about if we factor in all the stuff of modern life?

Sure, we'll all fit in Texas if we level all the mountains and valleys, clear all the trees, fill in all the lakes and rivers and stand really close to each other.

However, the resources needed to feed them all would take 50 Texases and growing. The actual land required to sustain a human is much more than that little half acre on which your home resides.

"Sure, we'll all fit in Texas if we level all the mountains and valleys, clear all the trees, fill in all the lakes and rivers and stand really close to each other."

I actually did the maths on this, a few years back. You'd get about 3,000 square feet her person. In theory, you could turn Texas into one huge city and treat the rest of the world as farmland and nature preserves. Cover maybe a 10th of the state in high-rise buildings, and you'd even have room for infrastructure like power generation and the like.

Not that this would be a good idea, but there's nothing fundamentally impossible about it.

**sigh**

Funny how I can go out into the bush and see these climate changes. Lakes that were once favourite fishing spots are now dead because they're too shallow. I was just at a friends boat house on Okanagan Lake. From what I understand you used to be able to push the boat right out of the house and into the lake, now it would fall and land on a bunch of rocks. A lot of this is caused by overuse of irrigation, because there's no rain. We have a province wide campfire ban. I miss campfires. There are 145 active wildfires in the province (http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Fires.asp?Mode=normal&&AllFires=1&FC=0). The pine beetle is killing trees because we no longer get the -40 weather that kills the beetle. Logging is pretty much dead in this province, it used to be the main industry.

But yeah, climate change isn't happening...

@ Wintermute
If they did that, and I couldn't get out on the farms... I'd kill myself. Although it is one way of dealing with the issue.

Global warming isn't about there being too many humans, idiot. It's about people spewing too many greenhouse gases in the air (simplified version). It's a problem that has a number of potential solutions, population culling NOT being among them (killing a billion people wouldn't really help all that much anyway).

You could fit everyone on earth in Texas =/= everyone on earth could live in Texas. Anyway, it doesn't really matter because it takes more land than Texas to support & feed everyone.

I believe in global warming and cutting down the carbon footprint is an EXCELLENT idea. So is voluntary cutting down on population via birth control, as who wants to be cheek to cheek with the neighbors. There are other critters to consider However, human beings are not the sum total of the global warming/climate change story. Other factors figure in.

We have to consider adaptation as well as carbon cutbacks in case.

Many measures of 'adaptation' such as urban and vertical farming help add more plants to Earth's equation and helps offset our carbon in the short term.

Hmmm. The math I get says 1,117 square feet per person, doable if you essentially flatten the entire country and pave over everything.

Once you factor in roads and infrastrructure, though?

Oh and an interesting view for anybody not worried about Climate Change the following is a projection of what the world would look like 4'C hotter, projected to occur by 2050:

Note that Mexico is dead, as is Florida and the East and South coasts. Brown zones are dead, Red are flooded, the rest of the USA except Alaska is uninhabitable desert. All of the USA will have to migrate north along with all of Mexico, America will beg Canada to help them!

China, India, the Middle East and South East Asia will burn. They too will be forced north into now quite lovely Siberia. Russia stands to gain a lot here.

Europe, especially the Scandinavians you right wingers so despise will be sitting pretty, but the Sahara will jump the Mediterranean.

The South American nations will mostly have to move to Antarctica and the Amazon will die. (the area geared to be habitable is in the south american territory zones).

Australia and New Zealand will prepare (and are already preparing) to save the pacific islanders and SE asian people who will be displaced by the death and flooding, we may even buckle under the strain.

As you can see this map represents a damning future for the Americans where only approximately 3-4 of the 50+ current states and territories will survive and the only viable industry left in the US heartland will be power farming, while the population must beg Canada and Greenland for living space.

How will everybody fit in Texas when it is dead!?

EDIT: Oh and the cow will go extinct as will rice plants.
