Faith is what gets you life eternal in a paradise in the presence of Our Loving Heavenly Father. That sounds a whole lot better than whatever it is that "facts" and "evidence" will get you.

"Faith is what gets you life eternal in a paradise in the presence of Our Loving Heavenly Father."
I've always found the definition given by Ambrose Bierce in his Devil's Dictionary to sum up faith rather nicely:
FAITH , n .
Belief without evidence in what is told by one who speaks without knowledge, of things without parallel.
"That sounds a whole lot better than whatever it is that "facts" and "evidence" will get you."
I'll take facts and evidence over wishful thinking any day.
That's great for you. Personally I get a great deal out of facts and evidence. I like knowing things, I like to tell other people who like knowing things those things, and I don't claim to know something if I don't have facts or evidence for it. Blind faith, therefore, does nothing for me.
Faith is what gets you life eternal in a paradise in the presence of Our Loving Heavenly Father.
And those without faith can look forward to their "Loving Heavenly Father" having them tortured for all eternity? That a real kind and loving "god".
That sounds a whole lot better than whatever it is that "facts" and "evidence" will get you.
"Facts" and "evidence" are not supposed to get illusions of some paradise, they are supposed to get you truth. And that's why they bother you so much, because deep down you know religion is a load of horseshit that you've been swallowing hand over fist.
Besides, the version of heaven that I've heard you people describe sounds more like divine slavery and emotional lobotomy, If you are right and I'm wrong then at least I'll be among friends. More to the point how can you know that your religion and/or denomination is the one true religion?
I'm thinking Poe.
Evangelicals like to claim that that evidence and facts support their faith, and may say that faith makes such evidence unnecessary, but they don't go on about facts and evidence being bad in and of themselves.
Faith is what gets you a job flipping burgers or mopping floors.
Facts and evidence, along with education, get you a REAL job.
"[life eternal in a paradise] sounds a whole lot better than whatever it is that "facts" and "evidence" will get you."
Facts and evidence will get you:
a much lower infant mortality rate,
a better chance of surviving childbirth,
a better chance of surviving serious illness,
plentiful food from more efficient agriculture,
plentiful recreation from relief from manual labour,
modern technology to entertain you,
and last but not least,
a world-wide platform from which you can display your stunning ignorance with misplaced pride.
Science saves lives. Enjoy.
Yes, your life is of cosmic significance, and a big, cuddly daddy is going to take care of you forever.
This "Our Loving Heavenly Father" is the alter-ego of the monster under your bed, didn't you know?
You didn't? Shit, that's what happens when you don't pay attention to the facts and evidence.
Yeah, sounds great, doesn't it?
Unfortunately, reality is what it is, not what we would like it to be. Nonetheless, some of us want to try to learn more about the way things really work, instead of retreating into fairy tales. For that, we need facts and evidence.
It's clearly not a fundie, a quick glance at the guy's contributions and it becomes clear that he's just making a joke.
After all, you're not gonna find a creationist who can say this
"The first one:
Evolution is a change in genetic frequencies over time.
Remember, evolution deals with inheritable things. The term "phenotype" broadly includes things that are not inheritable."
This guy isn't a creationist, he's a poe who does have some very legitimate answers regarding biology.
The good news is without "facts" and "evidence" you're going to get there a lot faster when you die of septicemia.
The bad news is it probably doesn't exist and you've made your life and lots of other peoples' less enjoyable and oftentimes shorter.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
