Quote# 65786

Since you are on this website, you probably have a general knowledge of the two competing political camps in America, liberalism and conservatism. Surprisingly, a lot of people who live their lives in a conservative way vote for liberals, which is against their self-interest. To understand why this happens, let's look at the basic idea behind liberalism.
Liberals core principle or ideology is that the government should do for people what they cant do for themselves. This gives the government more power at the expense of the freedom of the people.
For instance, liberals don't think that people in general are capable of taking care of their own health. So they set up huge government agencies like Medicaire, Medicaid, and are even trying to nationalize health insurance. Of course, it takes a lot of tax money to pay for these liberal programs.
Liberals don't think people are capable of providing their own meals or paying their bills, so they set up Welfare programs and hand out food stamps and WIC (more tax money).
Liberals don't think people are capable of planning their own retirement, so they set up Social Security and block any efforts to change that broken system (more tax money).
Liberals don't think people are capable of managing their own education, so they set up public schools which happen to be run by more liberals (more tax money).
Liberals don't think people are capable of choosing their own lifestyle, so they pass laws that tell people what they can and can't eat and drink, where they can live, what they can listen to on the radio or watch on tv, what kinds of cars they will drive and how parents should raise their kids (less personal freedom).
Basically, liberalism is the belief that the average person is too dumb to take care of themself, so they need a big government to take care of them. Liberals believe that they are the smartest and most caring people, so they should run the government (more tax money) that takes care of the poor dumb people .
People vote for liberals because the idea of helping their neighbor through liberal social programs sounds good. But instead of helping them, these government programs create huge groups of people who will not be responsible for their own well-being.
Today, more than half of the people in the United States receive some kind of money from the government, and they are supported by the tax dollars of the minority. Financially, this cannot work in the long run.
Liberalism is socialism and marxism. It fails every time it is tried.

Since you are on this website, you probably have a general knowledge of the two competing political camps in America, liberalism and conservatism. Surprisingly, a lot of people who live their lives in a liberal way vote for conservatives, which is against their self-interest. To understand why this happens, let's look at the basic idea behind liberalism.
Conservative core principle or ideology is that the government has absolutely no proper role in anybody's lives. This gives big business and organized religion more power at the expense of the freedom of the people
For instance, conservatives don't think that people too poor to pay for their own health care should get any. They should just die quickly, because funding government programs like Medicare and Medicaid requires tax money. Of course, they always support funding bombing brown people.
Conservatives think people too poor to provide their own meals or pay their own bills should starve and go live under an overpass.
Conservatives think everybody has plenty of income to afford tax advisors and pay into a savings account, so they want to destroy Social Security.
Conservatives don't care about people getting educated, because that would lead them to question big business and organized religion, so they constantly push to defund public schools, further stratifying society into an undereducted poor working class, and the educated children of the rich upper class.

(continued)
Conservatives don't think people are capable of choosing their own lifestyle, so they pass laws that tell people who they can and can't love, where they can live (segregation), what they can listen to on the radio or watch on tv, what kinds of cars they will drive and how parents should raise their kids (less personal freedom).
Basically, conservatism is the belief that the average person is too dumb to think for themself, so they need big business and the church to think for them. Conservatives believe that they are the most righteous and holy people, so they should run the government so that it can get out of the way of the real rulers of society.
People vote for conservatives because they like the idea that they're better than everyone else, and someday they'll be rich too. But instead of being better than anyone else, it just makes them feel no responsibility for anyone's well being but their own.
Today, more than half of the people in the United States receive some kind of money from the government, and they are supported by the tax dollars of the minority. Financially, this cannot work in the long run. So the conservative solution is do away with the programs so they can cut taxes on the rich, because programs that help the poor and might raise them out of poverty are an undue burden on the Koch brothers, Rupert Murdochs, and Paris Hiltons of the world
Conservatism is facism and theocracy. It fails every time it is tried.

(Hyperbolic and unfair, but so's the original post. And this is a lot closer to true)

So why don't you build your own roads, police your own streets (that you built), defend your own borders etc etc etc.

"Liberalism is socialism"

LIBERALISM
some tenets/ideas:
- Individualism
- Belief in the free market
- Limited Government
- Liberty as personal choice
- Constitutionalism, checks and balances
- Equality (under the law, opportunity)

SOCIALISM
some tenets/ideas:
- Class
- Egalitarianism
- Society, co operation etc
- Critique of Capitalism (to a greater or lesser degree)
- Common ownership (can be state ownership or communal)
(so annoying to summarise socialism as it encompasses anything from moderate social democracy to communal anarchism to Marxism)

Anyway the main point is they are 2 COMPLETELY DIFFERENT IDEOLOGIES!!!!

Liberalism is socialism

If this were true, I'd be a lot more willing to vote for Democrats.

Liberalism equals freedom. When you provide Medicare and Medicaid and some kind of health-care for everyone, you don't need to impoverish yourself if you become unwell. Which can happen to anyone, "irregardless" of how well you take care of yourself.
Tax money is supposed to be For the Greater Good, isn't it?

Some people can't provide meals, maybe their employer let everyone off, and moved to China.
As everyone who works will someday retire, shouldn't everyone who works contribute to a joint retirement fund?

Education is mostly for underage children. They are not adult enough to manage their own education, and shouldn't be dependent on whatever their parents can afford.

Don't conservatives often berate Liberals for their lax lifestyles and tell them to follow Christian Morals?
What is that but telling people what to drink and eat, where to live, what to listen to or watch, what cars to ride and how to raise your kids?

The average person manages pretty well to take care of him or her self. The unfortunate people may not, and we should help them on their way.

Love thy neighbor as yourself, isn't that in the Bible? Selling all your possessions and give the proceeds to the poor is also in there.

Aren't more than half of the people in the US contributing to the Government also.
You have to give a little to get a little, right?

Liberalism is Right-wing. Socialism and Marxism is left-wing.
"Democracy is the worst political system, except for every other system tried." Or something like that.

I actually loathe Liberalism, as they give to poorer people in order to feel magnanimous, not to help your fellow man. But I can still understand and explain how Liberals reason.

No, I think healthcare and education should be provided regardless of ability to pay, and that the pursuit of profit in healthcare and education makes their delivery less fair and much more expensive.
Numbers kind of say I'm right, too.

Liberalism is individualist asshole.

John Stuart Mill - liberal and staunch opponent of paternalism. Fail.

So now conservatives are trying to indoctrinate kids while spouting off lies about liberalism. It's bad enough when they do this to adults.

"Liberals don't think people are capable of providing their own meals or paying their bills,"

Conservatives: "The government should stay out of people's lives! And you two can't get married. And you guys can't build a mosque there. And you can't write down and publish anything I just said."

Last I checked, it was the Religious Right that wanted to do that. You fail.
