Well, we just made that shit up on the spot, and you called us on it. You win.
Now please tell us how God reasoned when he put the tail there.

The actual way that sperms and eggs developed is truly amazing and fascinating, and there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. But why bother explaining it to you, you won't accept the rationality anyway.
It's a shame that you will miss out on the beauty of reality in favor of goddidit.

"how does one explain a sperm. It's something secreted by the testicles. They say evolution happens to a population. So how does a sperm then have a tail? What gave it the intelligence for the need of a tail so that it can get to an ovum?"
You must have some sort of point, else you wouldn't have wasted your time writing all that down. Right?
"Why do atheists/evolution believers dodge this question?"
Because it doesn't appear to actually be a question so much as a string of randomly asserted half-ass bullshit that you likely found on a creationist website or somehow managed to concoct yourself. Either way, it's not nearly as profound as you seem to think it is.

Why do atheists/evolution believers dodge this question?
Because this is a stupid question that can only be asked by someone, who didn´t learn anything at school about evolution (or was homeschooled)

You know what would have been EVEN MORE INTELLIGENT?
Make sperm better in smaller quantities so that one need not throw away organic matter needlessly. Make the sperm vastly more effective and efficient at their job. It could be done, after all, your god is omnipotent, is he not?
9/21/2009 8:57:28 AM
Because its mad. No one in their right mind would ask such a question, and we know that in light of this, explaining it to you is a lost cause.
9/21/2009 9:06:34 AM
I have not yet seen such deep thinking from a fundie on semen before.
Not that I'm surprised.
9/21/2009 9:13:57 AM
I would be more than delighted to explain but you keep throwing shit all over the place. Clean it up and see me after the class.
9/21/2009 9:20:17 AM
Yes, populations evolve, not individuals. However, selection acts on individuals rather than populations. THIS is why sperm have tails. Just reasoning it out here, an individual in a population or perhaps several individuals had sperm with some advantage reaching the egg. These individuals obviously reproduce better, especially in promiscuous species, because their sperm hits the egg before other males' do. This trait must be determined by genes in the sperm cell (cells don't just randomly grow things), so the trait is passed on (since the genes for the trait are in the gamete). Gradually the tail lengthens, until it hits a balance between energy/nutrient use and advantage in reaching the egg.
Why do you refuse to have an understanding of how evolution works?

"They say evolution happens to a population. So how does a sperm then have a tail?"
"What gave it the intelligence for the need of a tail so that it can get to an ovum? Why do atheists/evolution believers dodge this question?"
Question makes no sense. Subject appears mental.

Sperm is not secreted.
9/21/2009 9:34:35 AM
I didn't know anyone was dodging the question. Obviously, sperm that can move by means of a tail can get to the ovum better than sperm without tails. So if there were any animals that had sperm without tails, they probably died out because it was so hard to reproduce.
BTW, sperm don't really have "intelligence." They are single-celled organisms and don't have brains. But like fundies, they have a 1/200,000,000 chance in becoming human.
Any other questions?

You know, a really intelligent thing to do was not ask atheists on a forum of laymen, but rather LOOK IT UP ONLINE. There are plenty of references on the internet that explain why sperm have tails (flagella, is the scientific term), and how it is an evolutionary feat.
Please, just stop asking other people to do the thinking for you.
9/21/2009 9:56:33 AM
You not understanding the answer doesn't mean the question has been dodged, it just means you are not intelligent enough to understand. Given the level of simplification I've seen given to this, and your other favourite the human eye, this means you are at about the level of a dangerously retarded Gibbon!
9/21/2009 10:08:58 AM
Why do you think this question makes any sense?
It's like you took some words you saw in a science book and mixed them up in a sentence.
9/21/2009 10:11:36 AM
Some sperm don't have tails, they just don't get anywhere, so they don't fertilize the egg.
Evolution doesn't think, evolution does not magically poof something onto a population. Fish sperm doesn't have tails (IIRC).
9/21/2009 10:36:19 AM
Why do atheists/evolution believers dodge this question?
Because it's obvious you know nothing about evolution, genetics or meiosis and no one gives enough of a rat's butt about your oddball beliefs to waste a couple of weeks of their life teaching you what you would have learned in high school biology if they actually taught it in East Dipwad, KY and you hadn't dropped out to take that bucket-washing job at the feed lot.
9/21/2009 10:39:07 AM
gee...took me 1 google search to find a peer reviewed answer...
how hard was that?
9/21/2009 10:39:41 AM
Anatomy fail by the second sentence.
9/21/2009 10:57:01 AM
Because it's a question as stupid as the one who asks it.

I dodge this question for the same reason that I don't respond to the random homeless burnout that runs up and asks, "WHAT DID YOU DO WITH MY SOCKS?"
Any other stupid questions?

Anybody would dodge that question now that you've touched it.

Makes one wonder where fundies come from!
