Just as beliefs in ancient Rome had their time, and was replaced by Christianity there, the Religious Right in the US have had their time.

and as Hitchens and Dawkins pointed out: The last two statistic polls revealed a 15% atheist population in America. That's higher then the Jews but still we shouldn't ever have a voice.
Add in also that Atheists political views are comparable to moderate Christian views, at least more comparable then eithers with Fundamentalists.
