Help with a problem

Hi everyone,

I wanted to throw this out there and see what everyone thinks.

I work as a manager for an automotive shop with a few employees. One of our automotive technicians was hired (but not by me) several months ago. He seems to be a good employee, shows up to work when he's supposed to and does a decent job. But the problem I have is that when he first started working I thought he was a good Christian. He even wears a cross on a necklace around his neck. But I found out that he's a Christian in name only.

Come to find out that he doesn't go to church, he drinks beer after work, and the woman who I thought was his wife is only his girlfriend. They've been living together and have a child. Well to top it off we were having a discussion about politics one day and I found out that he voted for Obama! And he thinks Obama is doing a good job as president!

I have tried witnessing to him on several occasions but he acts like he doesn't want to hear any of it. I told him that he needs to straighten his life out but he kind of got upset with me.

I know legally we can't fire him for not being a good Christian, but I really don't know if I can work with him anymore. I just don't like being around sinners like him. I've brought it up to the owner of the store, my boss, who's a good Christian but we haven't figured out what to do yet. I have been watching him closely to look for any screwups we might be able to use to get rid of him. I'd really like to keep him on if he would be a good Christian, but he refuses to listen to the Word. I'd really like for him to work elsewhere but he doesn't show any interest in leaving.

What's a guy to do?

First of all, didn't Jesus say something on the order of "I did not come to save the righeous, but the guilty"? Sounds like, from HIS point of view, you have nothing to complain about, when put in contact with a "sinner".

Second, Whether he drinks beer, lives with a woman who is not his legal wife, or voted for Obama is of NO CONSEQUENCE when it comes to his hypothetical salvation. The only thning that matters in that regard is whether or not he has accepted Jesus as his savior (and that is not something YOU can judge) - again by your own religion.

Third, If he was a devout Muslim, and trying to convert YOU, to his faith, what response would you have?

American professional cyclist and seven-times Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong wears a cross. He's an Atheist. So?

So? He sounds like a normal, decent member of American society. Especially the 'voted for Obama' part. I don't know who he voted for previously, but if it was Bush, he clearly came to his senses. So why didn't you & everyone else on Ruptured Retards?

Whatever personal issues he has are just that - personal. Like any well-balanced person, he'll sort them out, again - personally. He doesn't want you - and least of all, your right-wing fundy bullshit - bothering him. Imagine me constantly knocking on your door, telling you that you must read & accept Richard Dawkins' "The God Delusion", and how that would feel to you? Now you know how he feels when you do the same.

As long as he continues to arrive for work on time, and do as good a job as he can, legally, you can't touch him, and you know it. If you try to relocate him, he asks you why and you tell him the straight, honest reason why, next stop, his lawyer, then to an employment tribunal, even court. He sues you & your boss into oblivion. He comes out the richer - mayhaps even to buy out said boss; he can then screw you over for doing what you did to him. And all just to maintain your fundie 'pride', eh?

So him not being a True Christian like you, and how that toasts your fundie muffins? Considering the potential repecussions of any actions by you & your boss, Is it really worth it?

If only fundies showed the same amount of care about fairness for others - especially not forcing their beliefs & 'morals' upon others, then we Atheists would have no need to call them out on their hypocrisy & fundy bullshit* as a whole. Something called 'Minding your own FUCKING business', and all that jazz. It's a great concept. You fundies should try it sometime. It won't kill you.

If they left everyone else alone, then everyone would leave them alone.

We're not the ones with the paranoia of Waitingtofly & his boss, nor the intent of persecuting the guy because he's not a True Christian. If his workmate & employer were Atheists, they wouldn't care about his beliefs. If he didn't go around forcing such on others, and merely kept them to himself (As he certainly is, thus no reason for him to be bothered in the first place), and he just did his job, then there'd be no need for all this drama - certainly from Waitingtofly.

Besides, we're Atheists. 'Sin' is defined as disobeying divine law. Or going against laws laid down by a deity(ies). But as we don't acknowledge the existence of a 'God', therefore we're not sinners. We certainly have higher moral standards than God; see what he gets up to in the Old Testament. Therefore we Atheists are superior to God. Ergo...:

But of course, you guys wouldn't point that out since that would defeat the purpose of your mockery of Christ.

Nobody's mocking Christ (at present) - we're just mocking his fan club. And seeing as you're so forthright about how this quote should not be accepted, then you really have no grounds to pick a fight over it. Find a quote you think we shouldn't mock and maybe you'll have a leg to stand on.

Once more with feeling: We mock humans, not fictional creations. We're not concerned with god, we're concerned with the people who obsess over the idea so much that they become inexcusably inhuman creatures. These creatures are commonly known as fundamentalists, or 'fundies' for short.

Not everyone here is atheist, by the way. Not every atheist is anti-religion, either. The common bond that unites FSTDT users is a distaste of (and usually a deep urge to mock) fundies. Not Christ, not Mohammed, not Odin, just fundies.

Sure, some of us take pot-shots at those characters now and then, but if you don't get the humour then you're either a fundie yourself or someone with hidden insecurities about their faith.

Extremism is rarely, if ever, a good thing.
