[CeeKer's 10 year old son was drafted to play a female role in a school play due to a shortage of female participants.]

CeeKer: Neither had I!!!!

I am wondering if this is some agenda driven thing now.

malamute: It sure sounds like it is. Another gender bending thing they're doing to very young children.

Really? I just think it's because there just aren't enough girls around to fill in the female roles.

I know, crazy thought right?

Fun Fact: Women and girls weren't allowed to participare it the theather until relatively recenttly. Female rolls were filled in by either men or young boys in costume.

I bet they would really enjoy the British tradition of pantomime - the hero is played by a woman dressed as a man, the dame is a man in drag, etc. Children love it!

Would they be equally upset if a girl was playing a boy's role?

Driven by a scarcity of women?. Please, I played many masculine roles for similar reasons, and the fact that I was very tall. Not even my parents complained.

They were influenced by the Shakespeare's agenda, were women were not allowed to be actresses and little boys have to play their roles. Go figure.

You better watch out, because if they keep this up next thing you know they'll be doing sketches about dead parrots and Spam.

I think your son should only play the parts that call on him to be an unthinking, spear throwing, gun toting, sword wielding, barbarian, torturer, witless, grunting, stalk chewing, rapacious, cannon fodder type thingy.

And Peter Pan is traditionally played by a woman.

I'm sure CeeKer would be very happy if her son got the part of a sheep or a bush.

Apparently there is no situation in life that they don't see through a prism of homophobic paranoia.

As usual, the tiny bit of self-education it would take for them to learn that this is not at all unusual is totally out of the question.

You know, that's how they did it in the old days. If there was a shortage of one gender, the other gender would play the roles of that gender. Way back when, women weren't even allowed to be actors, so men played all the female roles.

This is what happens when you insist that all women must stay home and in the kitchen.

Here's hoping that if we ever get time machines, CeeKer and malamute never go back in time to Europe in the Middle Ages. Or Japan, for that matter.

You know in the Dark Ages before women had equal rights, ~all~ female characters were played by male actors.

this happens at my old high school all the time.

last time we did death of a salesmen Howard, Charlie, and Bernard were all played by women.

you know why this happened? Because casting with school kids is a nightmare.
