Well, at least he admits that evolution exists...

Come on, of course the guys who wrote the bible were going to add "hate the unbelievers" in it. The irony is of course that if the IQ had dropped, you'd be part of the evidence.
10/24/2009 12:23:11 AM
people sometimes wonder why the IQ has started to drop after 1960s. ironically, it's caused by the evolution theory that is taught in schools. it says that we are apes, so we are devolving into apes.
So it took 100 years to warm up before it started doing any damage, eh? Interesting.
1960s was the sexual hippie rEvolution when people abandoned all morals and meaning from their lives (which was caused by evolution, because if evolution is true, there are no absolute morals or meaning in life).
The sexual revolution and theory of evolution are related to the degree that they rhyme, and no further. Further, evolution does not result in moral nihilism; in fact, it endorses morals through such models as group selection. It is true that it provides no meaning for our lives, but it isn't meant to; it's a scientific theory. Hippies abandoned neither morals nor meaning--just conservative interpretations thereof.
it's ironic that it's called the theory of "evolution", and it causes us to Devolve. this happens, so that what the bible says would come true:
"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools. And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen." -- Romans 1:22-25
As Godbuster said, if you're trying to spread your religion, the first thing you do is condemn unbelievers; it gives people a reason to convert. And if God didn't want you to believe in evolution, why would he pile up all of that evidence? Is your god deceitful?

If I remember correctly the IQ is slowly but constantly on the rise, at least in europe, so if it is in decline in the USA, maybe it rather has something to do with religious fundamentalism (which is much less developed in europe than in the USA) and/or with homeschooling (usually not allowed in european countries)
10/24/2009 1:04:27 AM
The IQ test is designed to remain constant. 100 stands for the middle of a normal curve.
10/24/2009 1:29:37 AM
God almighty, that's some serious stupid right there.
Where's that "Stupid! It burns!" picture when you need it?
10/24/2009 1:51:44 AM
We can't "devolve into apes". "Devolving" cannot happen, because that would constitute change over time, which is what "evolution" is.
Evolution has NO influence -- NONE -- on philosophy. It is purely descriptive and solely biological.

"people sometimes wonder why the IQ has started to drop after 1960s
That's as much as you need to read of this nonsense. For what's really going on, see the Flynn effect
10/24/2009 2:12:19 AM
Um... the average IQ is, per definition, 100. That's the whole point of the system. The average IQ hasn't been increasing or decreasing, it is always 100.
10/24/2009 2:26:42 AM
"1960s was the sexual hippie rEvolution whe--"
"rEvolution"? Don't you mean "revolu--" oh snap! "Evolution" is in the word "revolution"!? TEH CONSPIRACY!!1! RUN FOR YOUR FUCKING LIVES!!one!
10/24/2009 3:28:36 AM
Dammit somebody else linked the Flynn effect before I could. Fail, OP, fail.
10/24/2009 4:23:42 AM
Please, look for better excuses for your drop in YOUR IQ
10/24/2009 4:26:07 AM
This is wrong on so many levels, I can't imagine a human being this stupid. Poe. Or the batshit most ignorant person since the foundation of Rome.
10/24/2009 4:32:34 AM
IQ has not dropped.
SAT scores dropped, possibly because a much larger proportion of the student body is taking them now. When I was in high school only about 10% of my class took the test. Now at least half do.
Of course, one could argue just as effectively as watergaia does that the addition of the words "under God" to the pledge caused a drop in intelligence.
10/24/2009 5:32:59 AM
No, it's because of standardized tests, drill-and-kill, poor implementation of constructivist methods, and the sudden changes brought about by integration. Specifically, all those black children we'd been cheating out of an education in their "separate but equal" schools suddenly had to actually learn the same things as their white classmates, and it took them a decade to catch up.
Then, once they did catch up, we had the "New Math." There is nothing good one can say about the "New Math," except that we don't teach it anymore.
At the same time, a bunch of idiots didn't understand that constructivism is about guided discovery and basically let the kids do whatever they wanted, which resulted in said children learning nothing. This is a pity, because when properly implemented, constructivism is actually pretty damned effective.
Then, in the 80's, you had the "back to basics" dumbing-down of everything to get rid of any deeper levels of thought whatsoever, and the average student's brainpower atrophied as a result.
And the dawn of standardized testing in the 90's, followed by NCLB in '01, resulted in a sudden change of focus from "preparing our children for the real world" to "preparing our students for the standardized test." Florida MANDATES 30 minutes a day of practicing the FCAT, which would be much better served by actually teaching the children the material.
IQ =/= intelligence. It has more to do with academic ability and what you learned in school. If you weren't taught shit, then all the academic ability in the world won't help you score high on an IQ test.

A clown who promotes the Hermetic definition of elements (i.e. air, water, fire and earth) as factual has no business commenting on other people's IQ's.
10/24/2009 7:21:27 AM
You believe in retarded shit.
10/24/2009 7:37:46 AM
That book from which you quote is the real culprit.
Also, what Dr Shrinker said.
10/24/2009 7:43:45 AM
Oh no; not water-for-brainsgaia.
Wasn't she the lady who said that the Earth must be the center of the universe?
10/24/2009 7:50:37 AM
No, no. It was caused by the rockets poking holes in the firmament and letting the evil Stupid Rays in to attack our brains!

Citation seriously needed.

IQ hasn't dropped, but the education level sure has. Kids' vocabulary today is about half what it was in the 1950s. Hmmm...that seems to just about coincide with the fundie craze to homeschool, deny science, and keep their kids away from literature and non-G-rated films until they're about thirty.....Funny coincidence, eh?
10/24/2009 11:14:14 AM
You clearly have no idea what the hippie movement was about, so kindly shut the fuck up and come back after you finish high school.
Aside from that, the "IQ hasn't started to drop." It's actually higher than it ever was. Of course, IQ tests are complete and utter bullshit, but this doesn't mean anything.
10/24/2009 12:13:48 PM
I think homeschooling has killed a lot of intelligence. Poor kids, don't have a chance. I do know of some parents homeschooling that actually was an improvement on the public curriculum. They were not fundies, however, but educated atheists.
