You know, ricky here may be right. I was the youngest of seven growing up in a Catholic family. If my mom & dad hadn't been Catholic, they might have stopped at just two or three kids. So in a sense, without my parents belief in God, and the Catholic church saying that contraception is a sin, I probably wouldn't exist.

As for ceasing to exist, however, I'm pretty sure I would still be here if it could be proved that God doesn't exist.

On the contrary, if there were no god and everyone knew it then everyone would be an atheist. As it is, only some people are and it has nothing to do with whether or not your god actually exists as, if he does, he refuses to show indisputable evidence of that fact.

As Rene Descartes said, 'Cogito ergo sum'. 'I think, therefore I am'. With the emphasis on think. Many years ago, I thought long and hard on the whole subject of religion(s), and came to the conclusion that there is no 'God'. So you see? I think. I exist. With thinking comes realisation. I realised there's no 'God'. If there is one, he's done nothing to prove his existence to date. And until he does, then therefore he doesn't exist.

It's in the hands of your so-called 'God' to prove his existence. No Bible, no proseltysing fundie required. You fundies may exist, but you are irrelevant.

Without any belief in gods everyone would be atheists. We wouldn't cease to exist, the label would just lack meaning. That doesn't mean it's a useless position now, and it doesn't mean that any gods exist just because some people believe they do. The great majority of us would be perfectly fine not having conflict over religion or lack thereof.

There can be darkness without the existence of light...
it just owuldn´t have to bear a special name, as there is no different state from "dark".
Same goes for Atheism...it can well exist without god/s (or belief in them/him). Only the fact that there are people who believe in god/s requires that Atheism needs a name (to discinguish it from religion). There don´t need to be any existing gods, however ;)
