Quote# 66877

[You say I like to read Richard Dawkins books. I said I read one. I plan to read another. Correspondingly, I read the Bible every singly morning. Just because you are not capable of reading Dawkins without having an existential crisis doesn't mean the rest of us aren't. I plan to be a pastor. That will probably involve some form of apologetics. Accordingly, I need to know what other people believe for the sake of conversation.]

C. look I can read anything the reprobate Dawkins puts out, if I wished to do so. The Bible tells me how to deal with unbelievers, dawkins is the devils best friend. many, many, many, young, middle and old, have their faith destroyed by this devil. Is it Hutchins also that is an atheist, destroying many's faith? If you believe Jesus is Lord, My sincere apologies, but, I want to know do you believe the Bible is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Jesus ask "Simon son of Jonas who do you say that I am?" Who do say Jesus is? The Holy Spirit did reveal Dawkins and you to me. Somehow your faith has been derailed, very badly. Do you go to a liberal college? Liberal Professors? You are only twenty, and messing up you faith is a serious thing. Did you know Jesus Loves you, saved, or unsaved? You need the voice of truth. I know the word, and I know the Holy Spirit speaks to me also. You really, really, need to find the real Jesus. Honey, Dawkins does not know any Jesus, so do not look to evil for truth, I know how to talk to you about truth, without someone like Dawkins. BTW, The Holy Spirit did reveal Dawkins to me, why do you think he did? Maybe, just maybe, Christ wants you to do a U-Turn. Think about it.

The holy spirit told me you are not a true christian. Think about it.

The same Jesus who had no problem in mingling with sinners, are you sure you are a Christian?

The Holy Spirit revealed awkins to you? How does this happen? Any chance you caught it on video? Did you get to see his weiner?

Did this guy even read the post?

And regarding the first guy, he reads the Bible EVERY MORNING? Does he mean like the whole thing?

You can tell a lot about a person's real feelings by their words. This person (using the term loosely) lightshineon is going nuts that a future pastor who reads the bible every single morning wants to know what the other sides are saying so he can devise arguments against them. lightshineon's true complaint is not about his religious faith, which is pretty much impossible to call into question, but that this person might actually know something instead of being willfully ignorant of the rest of the world, and might actually be able to be peaceful with other people instead of condemning them to death.

And when you lost the argument, spread the love. Just like this guy later in the thread (shortened to the opening lines):

JohnDB:
"You have no clue as to how to read the bible or understand any of the principles that are stated there. This sort of thing requires the Holy Spirit to understand what is truth and what isn't"
"Real Christians are concerned with..."
"But then again you can't read that and understand that iin the Bible."
"I am not here to condemn you"

Really?
"But you wish to exchange the truth for a lie and confuse others as to what the truth really is. I am here to stand for the truth which you do not have within you."
"The two of you are here to promote sin and try to tell people that it is a good sin to commit and that it really isn't a sin at all. Your condemnation for this action (of the two of yours) is written out in that Bible that you addmittedly cannot understand; but we Christians have explained it to you....and it is severe. REPENT for your own benefit. The list of consequences is long and painful for the sins you are now committing and some of the wages are being exacted now from the two of you."

"You are only twenty, and messing up you faith is a serious thing." I will agree that reading a book like that will fuck with your religious belief, but if that is so then your belief never was strong anyway.

I really hate it when Christians start this holier-than-thou crap. I mean, not all that many do it, but they give everyoen else such a bad name because of it. "I know how to talk to you about truth", no your DON'T. You think you do, and you are probably reasonably well informed on religious matters, but you attitude makes any lesson you wish to teach incredibly irritating and difficult to believe. Stop projecting and try to at least act reasonably for a change.

I'm kind of annoyed - on the future-pastor's behalf, I mean. As far as pastors go, someone who's read Dawkins and is educating themselves to the rationality of other beliefs and non-beliefs sounds like a person with a modicum of intelligence. That should be encouraged, so that at least atheists aren't stuck in debates with people who scream EVILOOSHUN IS A SINZ BECUZ GOD PROLLY SEZ SO.

He's not looking to Dawkins for 'truth' for fuck's sake (not in the religious sense) but to educate himself on conversing with people who DON'T share his beliefs.

A concept so fucking lost on you it's almost painful.

Very cool. And he's right.

Do you go to a liberal college? Liberal Professors?

Shut up, you asshole. He's just seeking knowledge because he wants to know more about the world and better ground his views. Faith without knowledge is gullibility. Besides, without knowing what's out there, how can you expect to defend it?

"Only twenty" is not a reason to continue to hold an untenable position (not that this person feels that s/he does). "Only twenty" says absolutely nothing about the person to which you are speaking. Do you know what this person might have been through in their life already? Do you know how this person was raised? Hell, this person is much more mature in their thoughts than you. You don't realize how tiring it gets hearing people arguing the same old way all the time because they have no idea how what they're arguing against really works or what it really says.

I'm with Malkyrian (post #1045270 on page 1 here) - I'm an ex-Christian and those kinds of posts give me hope that someday the bigoted, closed-minded, and willfully ignorant Christian will someday be a thing of the past.

"dawkins is the devils best friend."

You can't be (best or any kind of) friends with something you don't believe in. The good ol' devil is the province of the religious.

"many...have their faith destroyed by this devil"

Again...and if they do stop believing in your god, they also stop believing in your devil.

Atheism doesn't destroy faith. Faith destroys faith.

"Did you know Jesus Loves you, saved, or unsaved?"

Then why does it fucking matter so much to you what someone else does?

"Think about it."

I'm pretty sure that's what you're pissed off about. That the target of your bile DOES think. Maybe, just maybe, Christ wants you to take personal responsibility and do your own thinking.

"dawkins is the devils best friend"

Yeah? That is interesting. Because the devil is the very best friend your make believe religion ever had. Without the devil to be a strawman for fear and eternal damnation and torture....you would have no religion. You really ought to Thank Dawkins.

Good point, Moose.

The devil is the pastor's straw man. Maybe the pastor-to-be friend is doing some quote mining for future reference.

Why God has to come in human form?

If the spiritual knowledge is perfect and complete, the devotion and practice are the spontaneous subsequent steps for which there is no need of any effort. If the practice is perfect and complete, the fruit is spontaneous. Therefore, all the efforts should be put only to gain the perfect and complete spiritual knowledge. Hence, Shankara told that knowledge alone can achieve fruit (Jnanadevatu…). The perfect and complete spiritual knowledge is possible only from God. But God is unimaginable and therefore to give this perfect and complete knowledge, the unimaginable God comes down in human form.

For this purpose, which is most important, God will never enter inert medium. The human form means the soul or awareness associated with the human body. Whenever God enters this world the soul is always an associated medium with Him. You should not say that the soul or awareness alone is the associated medium. If you say like that, the soul exists in birds and animals also and these birds and animals cannot give the spiritual knowledge to humanity. Therefore, the soul should mean the soul existing in human body only.

It's a shame good Christians get this kind of treatment from fundies like lightshineon. I think it's great that the guy is open minded and reads these kinds of books. Besides, even if the guy were to hate Dawkins and still read his books, then that means he's learning about the enemy,
