Did anyone else see the new commandment he made up?

Sooo, acording to Rev Jonathan Campbell-
This is traumatising for children...
...and this is not!

Gaaaa! A witch! Burn her!

Halloween is Samhain.
the celtic pagan new year..
It has nothing to do with satanism (a CHRISTIAN fantasy cult).
And the only curse on Derry is the english and their minions.
10/28/2009 4:26:25 AM
his church was opposed to Hallowe'en because it was "one of the two major days for Satanists"
What's the other day for satanists? I've been missing out on some fun.

I'm so glad I moved away
Northern Ireland - Fucked by Religion since 1690.

The FBI is controlling your thoughts via your toaster
Fundies = Fun dies.

Your ancestors the Celts and Saint Patrick have a word with you.
10/28/2009 5:43:14 AM
This gentleman isn't a Celt. He's probably ethnically English.
10/28/2009 5:46:43 AM
No wonder I could never figure out the corn maze. Curse you, Satan!
10/28/2009 5:47:01 AM
Because children dressing up in costumes, playing games, and eating candy is what Satan wants...
Man I'm already getting sick of "war on Halloween" season. BTW, what's the other day for Satanists?
10/28/2009 6:13:36 AM
It was originally spelled Hallowe'en as it's short for Halloweven, i.e. the evening before All Hallow's Day/All Saint's Day.
So he's right.

The quote somehow reads better if I think of it being said with a strong "Norn Iron" accent, similar to Ian Paisley.
10/28/2009 7:35:51 AM
"One of the main reasons we as a church are opposed to the carnival is that children are being disturbed."
How funny, that is exactly one of the main reasons I'm opposed to the church!
10/28/2009 7:38:23 AM
Ya gotta wonder if the people that say stuff like this were the ones that lived in places where everyone gave them pennies or something when they'd trick-or-treat
10/28/2009 7:38:32 AM
This is the kind of paranoid, fun-killing nut-job that makes religion look even more stupid. What does he think is going to happen? The celebration is going to attract Satan?
10/28/2009 8:17:40 AM
When I was a child we had a lot of fun celebrating Halloween as a family and as a community. The town's still standing, and so is my family.
10/28/2009 9:08:39 AM
Look for this town to be haunted by pirate ghosts when Korn plays there,
For the win!!
10/28/2009 9:10:54 AM
I don't remember this kind of crap happening over here until quite recently. I blame Palin (Sarah, not Michael) and Fox News becoming more widely available. I have no evidence for that but, hell, if you can't beat em, blame em.
Also, while Hallowe'en has roots going back long, long before Christianity, All Hallow's Eve is, in fact, a Christian festival. So... fail.
PS: You drink the blood of your own deity and you tell people to stay away from the occult?
10/28/2009 9:42:27 AM
some more from the good reverend
10/28/2009 9:58:18 AM
Where in the Bible does God condemn Halloween?
10/28/2009 10:03:25 AM
Don't kid yourself, Rev. Campbell - you're not doing this because you care for the people of Londonderry, you're doing it because you're a miserable killjoy.
10/28/2009 10:04:55 AM
With all the starving people in the world, all the homeless and all the down-trodden, doesn't this minister have something more important on his plate? Shouldn't he?
10/28/2009 10:43:30 AM
I know somebody's house that would have gotten egged and toilet-papered on Mischief Night (Night before Halloween) were they living in the neighborhood where I grew up.
PS, @ Jesus and @ LDM: "Ghost Pirates!"
