Did you know that all atheists are not atheists because of intellectual problems? They’re atheists because of moral problems. You say, “But I know some brilliant people who are atheists.” Well, that may be so, but I know some brilliant people who are not. You say, “I know some foolish people who believe in God.” Well, I know everyone who doesn’t believe in God is foolish.
[Bible verses removed]
An atheist is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of God. So he says, “If I can get rid of this idea of God, I can get rid of this uncomfortable feeling.” But in reality, he doesn’t get rid of it down deep in his conscience. He’s like the man who bought a new boomerang and killed himself trying to throw the old one away.

I see the poster, according to his own belief structure will be destined for Hell, for the venial sin of pride...
Incedentally, which God, per se, is the poster referring to...?
Allah, Zeus, Odin, Izanagi, Vishnu or Zoraster...?
As for his boomerang analogy, hunting boomerangs do NOT return to the user, when thrown, as opposed to the toy ones that he's familiar with...
Finally, who created God...?
Spoken like someone who knows nothing about atheism.
Sorry, we don't have an uncomfortable feeling about your god or any other god.
Atheists are atheists because they've reasoned their way out of religion. What made them uncomfortable was trying to continue believing in something that made no sense anymore.
I think that you are revealing more about yourself and other religious people in this post than you are about atheists, OP.
A Christian is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of death. So he says, "If I can get rid of this idea of death, I can get rid of this uncomfortable feeling." But in reality, he doesn't get rid of it down keep in his conscience. He's like the man who bought a new boomerang and killed himselt trying to throw the old one away.
(Okay so that last example doesn't make sense for either one.)
"They’re atheists because of moral problems."
Hmmm, if that's the case how do you explain all of those religionists who've been involved in sex scandals? Paedophile priests, drug addicted evangelists who enjoy the services of homosexual prostitutes, adulterers, thieves, liars in the name of your god. Moral problems for atheists? Exactly the opposite, pal.
"An atheist is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of God."
No. An atheist is someone who has taken a close look at your religion, recognised it for the childish nonsense it is and rejected it in favour of reality.
"An atheist is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of God."
No, that could also be a doubter or an agnostic. An atheist, may or may not be uncomfortable, but what make him/her an atheist is non-belief in any deity.
I didn't reject the idea of gods because it made me uncomfortable, I rejected that idea because it is patently ridiculous.
I am not uncomfortable with the idea of a god. In fact I used to be very religious. But I just woke up after thinking about things very seriously and critically for a few months and realized that religion didn't really make that much sense. And things seem more clear and sensible to me now, as opposed to that uncomfortable feeling I always got when I had to invent reasons why this or that bible passage didn't jibe with reality.
"I know some brilliant people who are not. You say, “I know some foolish people who believe in God.” Well, I know everyone who doesn’t believe in God is foolish."
That neither proves nor disproves a god. It simply shows that different people can believe different things. And yes, they believe these different things for different reasons. I don't like your God, but if you could give me real evidence of his existence that wouldn't stop me from believing in him. Otherwise that's like saying I don't believe in the creepy guy where I work.
"An atheist is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of God"
No, an atheist is someone who believes there are no gods. Many atheists would be willing to change their minds if you gave them verifiable evidence of a god's existence.
"If I can get rid of this idea of God, I can get rid of this uncomfortable feeling."
Actually, that uncomfortable feeling is knowing how people that are supposed to be close to me might react if they knew what I believe. It's knowing that so many people are willing to try to force me to follow their 'morals' if I won't do it willingly. It's knowing that a large number of people hate me without even meeting me in any way and knowing what I do and what I actually stand for.
Actually, it's quite freeing -- the guilt and paranoia over "sin" goes away.
You should try it sometime.
"An atheist is somebody who is uncomfortable with the idea of God."
Man seriously Atheism, 1 doctrine, repeat after me, simplest system on the planet:
"I do not believe in God (gods or other supernatural phenomena you like to call it)"
Really, really, really simple. Try not to miss that definition again.
"He’s like the man who bought a new boomerang and killed himself trying to throw the old one away."
This analogy reminds me of Penny Arcade, this one, particularly the last panel

"He’s like the man who bought a new boomerang and killed himself trying to throw the old one away."
But not like the fundie who found himself up to his neck in water... so got down on his knees to pray.
Well, I know everyone who doesn’t believe in God is smarter than me, because they are thinking human beings, unlike me, who has his nose buried in the KJV Bible 24 hours a day.
Fixed.
Romans 1:22-23 says, “Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.”
I always have to chuckle when some fundie who doesn't know me from a bar of soap desperately tries to find a way to tell me what I'm thinking.
Well, it's either chuckle or throw a brick at the computer screen. Chuckle is less stressful, and cheaper too.
No. Simply, nobody dumped the word "god' on me as a kid. My parents would read me the Iliad, and I regarded Greek gods as fictional characters. Later, I just assumed Christianity to be fiction, only more boring.
The world seems to fit the no-god model just fine.
I read a letter in a paper yesterday, to someone's loved one who had died some time ago. The letter-writer was convinced that they would meet in the afterlife and that the loved one was there, waiting for him. I got a bit jealous, actually. It would be nice to be so convinced that our dearly departed were waiting for us somewhere. Sadly, there is no evidence for that, quite the opposite. Once you stop believing in Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy and Jesus, it's quite hard to start believe in them again...
Does this sound like I've managed to get rid of an uncomfortable feeling, Adrian, or like I have reasoned my way away from the existence of deities, intellectually?
Confused?
