I ran my sons' schools books fairs all the years he was in elementary school
I would applaud your sense of civic duty if I didn't think, and you didn't demonstrate, that you have an ulterior motive.
and this was at the height of the Harry Potter books coming out.
So? Really now, what does that have to do with anything?
You wouldn't believe the garbage I had to hide away from the kids.
My point exactly. It is not your place to make a decision what books someone else's children can or cannot be allowed to read. Censorship is the weapon of cowards who fear anything they cannot control or manipulate to serve their own ends.
Literally, I tucked materials away, or didn't even put them on the shelves...
And in doing so you betrayed an implicit trust to the other students and their parents, and demonstrated your arrogance in thinking that your opinion of what kids should be allowed to read should trump that of their own parents.
And I don't think for a second that you do this out of some sense of responsibility for anyones best interest, but rather for the power trip you get from acting as if you and your worldview is inherently superior to anyone else's and you are therefore justified making their decisions for them because no one can possibly be as moral as yourself.
Thanks for bringing this everyone's attention.
Thank you for showing the world just how arrogant, smug, and presumptive you are.
I will personally be writing them a letter...
I'm sure you will scare them into submission with you holier-than-thou "I know whats best for everyone else, so you must do as I say" attitude.
