They probably made the joke because even a six year old can tell that Fox News isn't actually a news organization, hence they'd find it funny.

Looks like you could have stood to watch a few more episodes by the abuse you're heaping on the English language.
You can spell "indoctrination" but you can't spell "hilarious"?
If your kids can be brainwashed so easily, it might be because they've been exposed to brainwashing all their lives.
It was one of Oscar The Grouch's trademark garbage-related puns, the likes of which he's been making since his character's inception. It has NOTHING to do with ridiculing Fox News itself, Fox just happens to rhyme with Pox.
Somehow, in all of this hubbub, I haven't seen a SINGLE person point this out:
calling a news station "trashy," like they do with "pox" news, is more likely to be a COMPLIMENT in any oscar-related statement. I mean, really.

What? How does making a pun of a news organisation link it to the devil. Nickelodean shows parody half the items they show and they aren't the devil (Mintedo Gs, PearPod, PearBook computer, etc)
They do this sort of thing all the time. Off the top of my head, I can remember pseudo-celebrities "Polly Darton," "Guy Smiley," and "Placido Flamingo" from my own childhood. They play with words on Sesame Street. Always have, always will.

How many preschoolers would get that joke? A joke like that is clearly not aimed at the shows primary child audience, but the seccondary audience consisting mostly of their parents, and nostalgic adults. So there.
This is not a joke meant for children, I doubt a child whose in the target audience knows what Fox News is, it's meant to provide entertainment for the parents or nanny or whoever is watching it with them.
Of course, the 'Pox News' remark came when a character (a female version of Oscar the Grouch) was upset about what she saw on the Grouch News Network.
So, its okay to parody CNN, but you can't question Fox News.
When the children of today grow up, they're not going to think Fox News is bullshit by remembering what they saw on a Sesame Street sketch 15 years prior.
They're going to think Fox News is bullshit by remembering what Glenn Beck's successor said the night before.
This, of course, is all assuming that Fox News will still be in business 15 years from now.
Further proof that some Americans have no concept of irony. Certainly not parody & satire.
If you feel your beloved news provider can't take a little criticism - least of all from the most popular children's programme on the planet (40 years old, and still going strong!), then you have a few issues, Lullabyesmom. I suggest growing a thicker skin. And a pair, while you're about it.
And a sense of humour too.
