The basis of atheism is simply a rejection of all gods. "Great scientific knowledge" and all that jazz simply comes as a result of that.
And stop thinking you're so damn special in this rejection of gods. Your's is simply lumped into the countless others in the list.
And, I'd like you to take a quick look at the religions of convicted felons. And I mean for you to take a look at real figures, not whatever you pull out of your ass. Surprise here, buddy, the majority of prisoners are Christians.
We are not empty people. On the contrary, we live our lives to the fullest as we know that this is the only one we will ever have. We don't waste our time bowing down to something that's not even there and dedicating our lives to it. We search for and find meaning in life. You're a lot more empty than any of us are. We should pity you.

Funny then that they make up such a disproportionately small segment of all criminals in prisons.
Granted, many "Christians" in prison likely claim to be so because there's a good chance that the entire parole board identifies themselves as such also but you still wouldn't expect such a small number of people to be atheists and such a large portion to be religious, specifically Christian, given the population size.

Yet another one who thinks he knows what atheism is all about and the one thing that motivates all of us atheists. See, my problem with being judged comes from a mental disorder that seems to run in the family (and the half-dozen I could name with it are all Christians, btw). Hell, I hold a science degree and even then my atheism isn't a result of science (including evolutionary theory), it's a result of looking at the world and seeing something different than what was pushed into my brain for years (23 to be exact, that makes me a quitter?).
I am not empty, whether you like it or not. Some of us can get along just by having friends, pets, interests. We do not have a "god-shaped hole", we don't have a hole at all. I do not need your pity, especially since I don't think you really know what it means. . . .
