@ixolite:
"In this, the fundie is correct."
No, the fundie is not correct.
"3:28 Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security. Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. Unto Allah is the journeying."
In my translation this verse goes as:
"Let not the believers take disbelievers for friends in preference to believers,---and whoever does that has no connection with Allah---except that you catuiously guard against them."
Nowhere does this verse command lying. It merely states that Muslim people and states should be looking to be each other's friends first instead of looking for friendship outside. Nothing about lying. And no, this verse also doesnt prohibit friendship with non-Muslim, as the context and tafsir regarding this verse shows it is political relations between states. As you should be aware, states can become friends/allies or sign any co-op treaties, but they still guard against each other. There are many other verses commanding Muslims to befriend and be friendly and deal with non-Muslims who arent attacking and killing you in a nice and equitable manner.
"16:106 Whoso disbelieveth in Allah after his belief - save him who is forced thereto and whose heart is still content with the Faith - but whoso findeth ease in disbelief: On them is wrath from Allah. Theirs will be an awful doom."
I've posted about this before so I shall just copy and paste:
The main verse used by anti-Islamists to push this argument forward is as follows:
"Whoso disbelieves in Allah after he has believedsave him who is forced thereto while his heart finds peace in the faithbut such as open their breasts to disbelief, on them is Allah’s wrath; and they shall have a severe punishment (16:107)"
The Tafsir can be found on any major Tafsir site of this verse is as follows:
"(Whoso disbelieveth in Allah after his belief
) [16:106]. Said Ibn 'Abbas: “This verse was revealed about 'Ammar ibn Yasir. The idolaters had taken him away along with his father Yasir, his mother Sumayyah, Suhayb [al-Rumi], Bilal [ibn Rabah], Khabbab [ibn al-Aratt] and Salim [the client of Hudhayfah] and tortured them. As for Sumayyah, she was tied up between two camels and stabbed with a spear in her female organ. She was told: 'You embraced Islam for the men', and was then killed. Her husband Yasir was also killed. They were the first two persons who were killed in Islam. As for 'Ammar, he was coerced to let them hear what they wanted to hear. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, was told that 'Ammar has renounced faith, but he said: 'Never, 'Ammar is filled with faith from his head to his toes; faith is admixed with his flesh and blood!' 'Ammar then went to see the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, crying. The Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, wiped his tears with his own hand and said: 'if they return to you, let them hear again what you told them'. Then, Allah, exalted is He, revealed this verse”. Mujahid said: “This verse was revealed about some Meccans who accepted faith. The Muslims of Medina wrote to them urging them to migrate and told them that they did not consider them part of them unless they migrated. And so they left Mecca intending to migrate to Medina. The Quraysh caught up with them on the way and coerced them to renounce their faith. It is about them that this verse was revealed”."
It is quite clear that Taqiyya does NOT mean that Muslims are allowed to lie whenever they wish or to spread Islam. Taqiyya is nothing more than what English Law calls Duress. I suggest you read up on Duress then compare it with Taqiyya instead of villifying the horrible torture and death of a young man's family in front of him and the subsequent mercy granted on him and people in his situation because they were being forced, with the threat of death, to recant their religion, even though they did not wish to and only "lied" to save their lives.
In a way, it may be widespread knowledge mong Muslims, and non-Muslims, because it is a humane teaching, namely forgiving people that are being forced to do something against their will. But I doubt thats how you meant your post.
"66:2 Allah has already ordained for you, (O men), the dissolution of your oaths (in some cases): and Allah is your Protector, and He is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom."
This verse, as seen by its context and tafsir, is about lawful things not becoming unlawful just because one swares and oath to not do it. This was about the Prophet swearing not to go to his wives for a month, however, as they were married, it did not become unlawful just because he swore an oath. That is why oaths that forbid lawful things will be broken. Nothing about lying to further the cause of Islam. But to know that you have to read more than 1 verse.
"86:16 And I plot a plot (against them)."
Ofcourse, leave out the verse preceding this. The verses are as follows:
"And they plan a plan,
And I also plan a plan"
Nothing about lying to further the cause of Islam.
"86:17 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while "
This verse, as seen by its context and tafsir, is about God promising that any plan the people who would kill Muslims and try to destroy Islam want to throw at Islam and Muslims, they can go ahead. Nothing about lying to further the cause of Islam. And no, this verse also doesnt support breaking peace treaties as Muslims are commanded to accept and follow peace treaties whenever they should arise.
@#1059687:
Its a proper twisting of the Quranic verse to suit their agenda. This was the same propaganda thrown at the Jews, namely that they lie and deceive to take over the world. People that put these arguments forward dont know that Taqiyya is nothing more than Duress in English law.
If however, these idiots think Islam commands lying to further its goal, does the story of Rahab in the Bible, where she was praised and commended by God (That means she was praised and commended by Jesus then) for lying, prove that Christians are allowed to lie to further the cause of Christianity? Or does Shalom Bayit, or Pikuach Nefesh, or Baba Kamma 113, then mean that Jews can lie to further the cause of Judaism? Does the Bodhisattva vow in Buddhism mean that Buddhists can lie to further the cause of Buddhism?
Taqiyya is nothing more than duress, when a person is being tortued and threatened with death to recant their religion, then they can commit the sin of "lying" to save their lives, because they wont be punished for breaking a rule when they are under such torture. That is all Taqiyya is.
