As for the old chestnut of ‘abortion due to rape,’ while I do truly sympathise with victims of such a crime as rape I am nevertheless obliged to point out that St. Ninian was the product of rape. Imagine the loss to the world if he had been aborted.

St. Ninian - what about Fred Burns? Oh! What a wealth of personality the universe would have to suffer without his inimmitable presence. The earth will surely stop spinning when we lose . . . uh, is Freddy still with us?
Who the fuck gives a shit? Pfffftt take all the saints, and the aints, too.
As for the old chestnut of 'horrible trauma due to rape', while I do truly sympathise with victims of such a crime as rape I am nevertheless obliged to point out that St. Ninian was the product of rape. Imagine the loss to the world if his mother hadn't been raped.
That's what you meant to say, right?
Adolf Hitler was the product of a heterosexual marriage, imagine if heterosexuals had not been allowed to reproduce. Imagine the world if he had not be born?
Down with heterosexual marriage!
Pushing for something to be an option does not mean pushing for it to be the norm. We want women to have the OPTION of aborting a child that is a product of rape. Ultimately, the choice is up to the woman. I don't think you people get this; most of us don't like abortion any more than you do. People don't hate babies. It's just not something that happens.
Aww fuck, now you made me go google it,
Saint Ninian (lifetime uncertain) is a Christian saint first mentioned in the eighth century as being an early missionary among the Pictish peoples of what is now Scotland. For this reason he is known as the Apostle to the Southern Picts, and there are numerous dedications to him in those parts of Scotland with a Pictish heritage, throughout the Scottish Lowlands, and in parts of Northern England with a Northumbrian heritage. In Scotland, Ninian is also known as Ringan, and as Trynnian in Northern England.
Ninian's major shrine was at Whithorn in Galloway, where he is associated with the Candida Casa (Latin for 'White House'). Nothing is known about his teachings, and there is no unchallenged authority for information about his life.
Yeah, real loss to the world, he would have been.
Choice.
One word is enough to destroy the bloody argument you are trying to make. Even God can't do nothing against abillity to choose, and that is your teology, not mine. So, why would you take away something even god doesn't want to be taken?
Why, we'd never see the joy in our children's faces as they bite into their pickled eggs on St. Ninian's Day!
Imagine a world where no one races about on the 16th of September, gaily decorating the town in hues of purple and bronze, no one kissed beneath the holy crossbones, and familes don't gather around to eat boiled haggis.
I went to Wikipedia to spin that comedic gold and even they had no patron saintage or biography of note for him.
A Saint so important that this Catholic has never heard of them?
Wikipedia tells me he's known as the "Apostle of the Southern Picts", so I'm guessing he converted the Lowland Scots to Christianity, or something?
A fictional character from the Redwall books was the product of rape? I wonder if Brian Jacques knows about this.
No, seriously, I was a devout Catholic for about 20 years, and the only "St. Ninian" I ever heard of was the church in the novel Redwall. Guess he wasn't all that important in the grand scheme of things, then, was he?
First off, who the fuck is St. Ninian and how out of touch with reality are you to think that the world would be lost without him?
Secondly, what a stupid argument.
What if Hitler had been aborted? Saddam Husein's mother tried a home abortion and failed, Charles Manson, I could go on.
See we can play that game too.
And I really hope that St. Ninian isn't your argument, because you're either going to get "Who the fuck is St. Ninian" or a Scot proud of their Celtic roots smacking you in the face.
Edit:
According to Wikipedia, he may not of existed, but what else is new with fundies. Non-existent rape babies that save the day.
Or He could have been miscarriaged, or die before six, what's the difference?. Either you have free will or you don't. And surely you'd not say the same if we talk about HITLER or Sara Montiel, for example. And following that premise, why don't you point this example out when people argue against gays adopting children?. He obviously grew up with not just one mother, but many(at the time, single women and widowers helped each other). Yes, it's the problem of being consequent.
How can you be sure there isn't just as good a chance that the gap left by the nonexistence of Ninian would have allowed some other person, who would not otherwise have done so, to rise in importance and do great good?
Who the hell is St. Ninian? It's apparant by the posts here that no one knows who this "saint" is. Something tells me that this person looked up on Google "saints born by rape" or something similar to justify his argument against abortion.
Nice try, come back when you don't use a horrific traumatizing act against a person to defend your stance against something you don't like.
St. Ninian is insignificant in history. Your point is moot.
...Hitler's mother also considered aborting him, by the by.
Oh, yeah. I invoked Godwin.
Ninian was the product of rape, and his father was a king.
Makes perfect sense. What is the term where the lord has first hack at the virgin bride?
We can go on all day about how any aborted embryo could be the next Hitler or Gandhi. It's all immaterial and goes nowhere. It's easily the worst argument for or against abortion.
If a woman wants to keep a child resulting from a rape, then that is her choice, and she should care for it as best she can. But if she wants to abort, then that is also her choice. Not yours, not mine. Hers.
We can all imagine the loss to the world if this or that important person would have been aborted.
We can ALSO imagine the benefit to the world if this or that dreadful person would have been aborted.
Imaginations aside, it's still the woman's right to decide whether or not to keep a pregnancy going.
Catholic Bullshit, I'd say.
I didn't have a clue who St Ninian was either. Oh, he was a missionary in Scotland? Well, if he hadn't been there, someone else would have gone instead. Big deal!
Imagine the "loss" to the world if the catholic church didn't exist...
Think of how many kids wouldn't have been raped. Think about how many people wouldn't have been butchered in the crusades and inquisition. Think of how many "witches" wouldn't have been burned. Think of how many people in Africa would be alive today having avoided AIDS by using condoms... Think of how many kids in Africa wouldn't have been accused of being witches and murdered by their parents...
Confused?
