Remember here that committing adultery can happen by looking with lust at another person and committing murder can happen just by thinking angry thoughts about a person.

While certainly, "fundy", I don't think this is too much of a "darndest thing". Its what I was taught in Lutheran Confirmation class. The idea is that the sin is committed in your heart even if you don't commit it bodily.
Not saying its reasonable to condemn natural human nature, but it is at the very least consistent with with the idea of spiritual matters being more important than bodily ones.
Thinking and acting are not the same things. As long as you keep it in your head, it does not concern others.
But, as you believe that as soon as you have "thunk" it, it's real in your god's eyes, you might as well act upon it - YOU are the perpetrators.
lol so you are not allowed to experience emotions that your brain is hardwired to experience?
you are a fucking joke, and so are your gods.
"(...) and committing murder can happen just by thinking angry thoughts about a person."
Sorry, eternal, but Death Note episodes are not documentaries.
committing murder can happen just by thinking angry thoughts about a person.
OK, then, eternal, guilty as charged.
Here's looking at you, kid. Die, damn you, die.
Riddle me this, eternal...
If what you are saying is true, why are you and the other posters over at Retard Ready still alive?
Yeah.... no.
Thoughts do not equal actions.
I can think about having a beer, but it's not the same thing as having a beer.
...and committing murder can happen just by thinking angry thoughts about a person.
By that logic, I probably could've filled a cemetery by now. *blush*
If my thoughts had the power to kill, there would be none of you Raptards left.
But since you're all still there, I guess that means that there is a huge difference between thinking and doing.
So once you've thought about that hot girl down in Accounting, you may as well just go through with it. And if you ever get pissed off at your boss, well you may as well go all the way and come in with the 12-gauge.
And us atheists are the immoral ones.
As the whackjobs at RR all seem to have a problem telling fantasy and reality apart normally, this seems to be, at least, consistent. Which makes a refreshing change.
The idea of thoughts equaling deeds is just one of the many weird things about Christianity that caused me to doubt it when I was a child. Particularly because I was a child with OCD and Tourette Syndrome who thought about horrible things constantly just because I couldn't help it. And if you're wondering what the worst possible thing is that you could describe to a child suffering from these disorders, I can tell you now that it is most definately the concept of hell. Just FYI.
Gotta "meh" this one, sorry. It's a very, VERY poor paraphrase, but this fundie is just invoking Matthew 5:17-48. A better paraphrase would be "The old laws said not to commit adultery, but Jesus said that even lust counts against you. The old laws said not to commit murder, but Jesus said that even anger counts against you."
@Norris
The difference is that it's not the same nature of sin. Ok, it's not nice to get angry and desire the death of somebody else, the same way that it's not ok to get obsessed sexually with somebody out of your reach but from that, to say that there should be a thought police just in case...........well..........
Just it's taken from basic scripture and many non-fundies may subscribe to it doesn't give them an excuse.
In any case, that scripture could be a bit of hyperbole
@El Zorro: Doctrine and interpretation can, in and of themselves, be fundy or weird.
Or at least that's what everyone jumped on me to tell me the last time I pointed out that something was a common Islamic interpretation.

So help me out here: If you're not sexually attracted to the other person, how can you ever actually marry someone you're sexually attracted to? I don't think Jesus actually thought this one out - or are you saying we should follow the ancient tribal Jewish custom of one's father picking one's mate for financial reasons even if there is no love or attraction between the couple.
ok guys lets... try and be fair with this one... hes actually not as bad as some of the other moronic assholes that have posted on here... he actually DOES have a very basic valid point.... lets read deeper into his sentence before we start jumping on him and barrating him.

i think (or at least i sincerely HOPE) that what he is really saying here is that looking upon a person with lust on your facial expressions and evidently apparent within your bodily movements or expressions that it can LEAD to an adulterous act occurring...
like if a sexy woman walked in... winked at you and looked you up and down... despite the fact that the guy is married and has a wedding ring on his finger... if hes horny enough and she excites him enough with her flirtatious looks and body language...
(and if hes a completely unfaithful douche) it can lead to him getting too snuggly and touchy feely with this strumpet.... and by another person committing murder by just thinking angry thoughts about a person he means... it can LEAD to an act of violence if the person gets worked up enough and pissed off enough wanting vengence to where they lose self control and decide to just up and murder the asshole....
(especially if its the man who fucked the strumpet while wearing his wedding band... and the murderer is his wife... XD) i dont think he quite meant that THOUGHTS can cause death or cheating by just having them in your HEAD....
that would just be plain pyschotic and would denote a certain aspect of telekinesis in that he magically made the strumpet strip herself bare and do her right there by sheer force of will... or the wife envisioned a kitchen knife going into her cheating husbands chest and thus it flew out of the drawer and stuck his unfaithful cheating ass.... LMFAO

And remember - as per Romans 13:1-5 - committing Treason can happen just by thinking about Obama in any way other than he is your God-Emperor, who you must worship & obey his every word as if 'twere Holy Writ, right or wrong.
You lot certainly had no problem with doing so, re. Dumbya & Raygun, did you not...?! Buzzardnuts I'm especially looking at you .
Confused?
