Atheists are arrogant because in order to say that there is no God they would have to know everything about the universe. Yet they don't.
You don't, either. Does that mean that religion is somehow superior? Anyway, based on what we as humans have discovered about reality and how it works so far, we know that most things do not need a supernatural cause or motivation to operate, which makes it likely that God is either not around or he just never existed to begin with. If you don't need supernatural powers for anything, then what use would there be in having a supernatural being with supernatural powers hang around? Why would it even bother to be here? Seems kinda pointless.
How's that origin of life thing coming along for you? Still have FAITH that life came from some ancient warm pond?
We'll crack the "origin of life" nut sooner or later. Scientists have some good hypotheses, but AFAIK there's nothing real solid yet. At any rate, nobody "has faith" in life "coming from some ancient warm pond" - that's hardly dogma. What people DO have faith (of a sort) in, though, is that no matter how and where life arose, it certainly did so by natural processes (with no supernatural input).
Did you know that when Darwin made the hypothesis about the warm pond that scientists couldn't figure out why life sprang forth from rotting meat? They didn't know how maggots came to be so it seemed entirely plausible.
[citation needed] on Darwin's hypothesis, there. Was it an actual hypothesis or just speculation on his part? At any rate, scientists eventually did figure out "why life sprang forth from rotting meat," but that wouldn't have negated Darwin's speculation any. All of life itself still had to have arisen somewhere.
Atheists have religion....it's called mankind.
Mankind is not a religion, and humanism is a philosophy. See, religions tend to have these things called deities, and "a-theists", as their name suggests, don't believe in any deities.
They have faith that mankind will figure everything out.
What's wrong with putting your faith in humanity? So far, mankind HAS been the group "figuring everything out." And they've been doing pretty good in the last 300 years or so, too.
Good thing man has never been wrong before.
Ha, ha. Sarcastic fundie is funny (not). You can be wrong many times on the path to "figuring something out" - does "To err is human" ring a bell?
Anyway, just because mankind HAS been wrong before being right doesn't mean his accomplishments are therefore meaningless or that he should surrender his curiosity and intellect. As a matter of fact, it could be argued that making errors is an important part in eventually getting a thing right. You "figure out" what doesn't or won't work so that you don't try it again and waste time in the future.
You can keep your faith in capricious scientists.......I'll keep mine in Jesus Christ!
Knock yourself out. BTW, you know he was a human, don't you? Wouldn't you therefore be putting your faith into a member of humanity? *gasp*
