Quote# 69595

You might be a fascist if you . . .

. . . think that taxes are the price we pay for civilization.

. . . smile when the rich have to pay an even greater proportion of taxes than they do now.

. . . kid yourself that Social Security and Medicare taxes are investments or premiums rather than a way to pay for more welfare for old people.

. . . maintain that you have a right to health care, housing, retirement income, food stamps, or government-guaranteed student loans.

Absolutely none of your examples have anything to do with fascism.

You are a fucking moron of the 1st order.

that final point...just wow. That deserves little more than a simple "go fuck yourself".

Rich pay more.

Hey Andrew Carnegie suggested that the rich should give back to maintain good PR.

If paying more percentage taxes than other people is giving back, then great no one can accuse you of being a hoarder.

Translation to english: "I am a moronic cunt who hates old people and doesn't know how economies work."

Mr Blur

"maintain that you have a right to health care, housing, retirement income, food stamps, or government-guaranteed student loans."

Well, I'm a Socialist and I think we have a right to all of these.

Do you even know what a fascist is?

@Mr Blur

"Do you even know what a fascist is?"

People like Russell tend not to. Instead they just sling around snarl words that they heard somewhere else like a parrot.

And while I'm here....

Aren't those socialist ideas?

The real ideas of facism would be...

- the creation of a single-party state,

- the belief that the majority is unsuited to govern itself through democracy

- The view of nation is as a single organic entity which binds people together by their ancestry

- oppose pacifism and believe that a nation must have a warrior mentality

- an authoritarian, autocratic single-party state led by a charismatic leader

- social darwinist views of nations, races, and societies.

-endorse social interventionism dedicated to influencing society to promote the state's interests

- ban literature on birth control and increased penalties on abortion

If the economy is governed by the free hand of the market than that hand is only supported by the arm of government.

You accidentally left the word "not" out of this statement.

Fascism? Seriously? I don't think fascism means what you think it means.

Don't people have the right to life, though, in addition to those of liberty and happiness? That would mean that they would have the right not to die if they could help it. By extension, that would include having access to any medicines or procedures that would cure or otherwise treat a curable/treatable medical condition.

Food stamps would also fall under maintaining your "right to life". If you don't eat food and drink liquids, you die. If everybody has the right to life, then by extension, they have a right to have access to food.

The "student loans" comment really pisses me off, but that's likely because I'm a student pursuing a higher education at the moment. I don't know if government-guaranteed student loans are a "right," but they are a privilege that should be extended to every member of society should those members want to pursue a higher education. More educated people make for a better economy. At any rate, if it's a "loan," then that would mean that you would be paying it back at a future date. So, what are you worried about? It's not like the government's just handing out a bunch of money with no strings attached. Honestly, what do you people have against education, anyway??

As for making the rich pay more, well, they have all the money--duh. You can't tax the shit out of the poor because they barely have anything to give you in the first place. Besides, that's how you guarantee a big bloody revolution. At any rate, the rich have such vast sums of money that even if they did have to pay significantly more in taxes, it would still hardly dent their assets.

I'd like to point out that public health care is an investment: everyone has had to go to the hospital at least once in their life, even if it was just when they were being born. And guess what? Far more mothers in the US would die in child labour if it wasn't for hospitals and midwives, both of which sure as hell aren't cheap.

And yes, having the government help pay for things like health care, housing, retirement, food, and education helps to ensure that there'll be plenty of healthy, well-educated individuals with roofs over their head that can spend their lives improving your country. Ensuring that they'll have enough to retire on and be safe from inflation will definitely convince many people to stay in the country as well.

This is a terrible misunderstanding of political ideologies, but I don't think it's a conspiracy theory.

1/17/2010 8:16:58 AM

Not really a conspiracy theory, just name-calling.

"Uhh, isn't he on the wrong end of the political spectrum?

He's more on the wrong "axis", actually. But Randroids never figured out there was some important differences - and even conflicts of interests - between social/political liberalism and economic liberalism.

EDIT : heck, when I wrote this comment, I was so intimately sure that this bullshit was of Objectivist inspiration that I called the guy Randroid without any real proof. I verified on the site, turns out I was right. My randar performs very well.
