Picking and choosing data from science, and ignoring the rest... is exactly what all the religions of the world do with their source material. Methodist, baptist, catholic, jewish, orthodox jewish, etc... The religion of atheism, belief system based on something that can't be proven scientifically, has so much in common with them it is pretty funny to me.

Religion of Atheism. Wouldn't that be like the Hobby of Not Collecting Stamps?
There are no belief systems to atheism, retard, it's simply a disbelief in deities.
For the record, find me the scientific evidence for Bible God.
For the 183,239,947,476th time, atheism is not a religion and simply describes people who don't believe in any gods. Atheism doesn't state that you have to actively vow that there are no gods. And by your own definition, whatever religion you follow is just as irrational.
"The religion of atheism, belief system based on something that can't be proven scientifically."
We already know that, the difference is that most of us admit that this is the case, to my knowledge. The word 'probably' can speak volumes on the subject.
To be fair, I think moderate theists also make no absolute claim that their specific God is scientifically proven, but don't quote me on that.
P.S - Some questions:
1. If atheism is a religion what the hell isn't?
2. If atheism is a religion, does it come part & parcel with the religions of liberalism, globel warming, evolution and future topics fundementalists will try to discredit by claiming it as religion, or are they separate believe's altogether?
3. If atheism is a religion, WHERE IS MY TAX CUT?!
Thank you and good day.
Hmmm, if non-belief WERE a religion, we'd be the second largest congregation in the U.S., after Catholics.
Atheism doesn't work that way.
Besides, if you can give me scientific evidence of whatever it is you believe, I'm willing to consider it. The problem is that you're not providing this evidence, not that we're ignoring it.
Oh my...see, the thing with science is that you can't pick and choose since it's all interellated. Biology, chemisty and physics are all closely linked and ignoring even one of them means that you'll never have a shot at having a complete understanding of any of them.
And yes, scientists do specialize in very specific areas since we only live so long and wouldn't be able to learn everything in one lifetime. It also means that they can become experts in that specific field and can focus their studies on one thing at a time.
awesome. not only does this person not know any other religions other than Christianity and Judaism, they also do not know what atheism is at all.
And I'd bet a cookie that this is one of those "I don't follow a religion, I have a relationship with Jesus" people
"The religion of atheism, belief system based on something that can't be proven scientifically, has so much in common with them it is pretty funny to me."
Atheism is the lack of belief in a deity.
I do not believe in a deity
Therefore I am an atheist
Therefore atheism has been proven scientifically.
Lets test it - Ask me if I believe in a god...
P.S. - Atheism is a religion like bald is a hair color.
Methodist, baptist, catholic, jewish, orthodox jewish
Or basically christian, christian, christian, jew, jew. You're either a Poe or brilliantly stupid.
Well on one hand they do have a point. Not that atheism is a religion, just that the position of atheism is as unprovable as any conventional religion.
Remember the position of atheism is one that specifically denies the exsistance of deities. Now while it can be argued that given there is no eveidence for deities one should assume that there are none. However this assumption could be wrong as there is no qualtifiable evidence that no deities exsist.
Atheism and theism are both definitive stances, while only agnostism allows for variation is eventual possibilities.
Just a philosophical point.
Nice "belief system", there, Bubba. The whole belief system can be simmered down to "I have no evidence of any gods, therefore I do not believe in any gods". But yes, you are right, it is hard to prove a negative scientifically.
If that is all that there is to "Methodist, baptist, catholic, jewish, orthodox jewish, etc", then I wouldn't say atheism is the funny one.
Picking and choosing data from the bible, and ignoring the rest...is exactly what all the religions of the world do with their source material. Methodist, baptist, catholic, jewish, orthodox jewish,etc...The religion of fundamental christianity, belief system based on something that can't be proven scientifically, has so much in common with them it is pretty funny to me.
@Sylvana
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
Atheism is the disbelief *or* denial of the existence of gods; its opposite, theism, is the belief in the existence of one or more gods.
Agnosticism is the state of claiming no knowledge of a given subject; its opposite, gnosticism, is the state of claiming knowledge of a given subject. It has recently taken on the connotation that the "given subject" in question is the existence of a god or gods.
Neither atheism nor theism is incompatible with either gnosticism or agnosticism.
@Sylvana:
Sorry, I should have emphasised.
DISBELIEF.
Atheism (not a proper noun, by the way) is *DISBELIEF* in, or denial of, the existence of any gods.
That's all, nothing more, no mas, nadda, zippo. If you claim that there are probably no gods, then you are, in fact, an atheist. Atheism and theism deal with the question of belief; agnosticism and gnosticism deal with the question of knowledge.
Put it another way: if I ask you "Do you believe in unicorns?" and you respond "I don't know if unicorns exist" you'll notice you *didn't answer the question*. It's quite possible for a person to not *know* that something exists but still believe that it *does* exist. It's quite possible for someone to not know something exists and so not believe it exists.
Confused?
