Godwin how we missed you.
Also, didn't you have to be Christian to join the SS, and that Hitler thought he was on a mission from god? (People below me are going to add more)

"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their "legislature" should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between church and State." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1802.
"In my view church and state should be separate, not only in form, but fact. Religion and politics should not be mingled." -- Millard Fillmore (1809-1865)
Adolf Hitler, born 1889, died 1945.
Both phrases broadly used, by American Presidents no less, before Adolf Hitler was even born. But will that little fact stop you telling the same lie in future? Of course not.

"Sigh" Here we go again:
Look up something called the "Deutsche Christen"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutsche_Christen
Oh, and take a look at the "Reichskonkordat".
Yeah, Christians of all confessions did a lot to oppose Hitler... /sarcasm
There have been organisations like the "Bekennende Kirche", which in part opposed Nazism and there were people like von Galen or Bonnhoefer, but truth to be told, the majority of german christians supported the "Führer".

Darn
Go fuck yourself .... the church, whether Protestant or Roman-Catholic, in Germany wholeheartedly supported Adolf Hitler as long as they thought they could control him as a means to defeat the communists.
And for that they were more then willing to bless his guns and look away when the jews where dragged off to camps .... for 're-settlement'

"He also knew that if he could silence the voice of the church, nothing could stand in his way."
Clearly he was wrong, as the United States military, under the leadership of two Democrat presidents, not only stood in his way, they totally kicked his ass.
"The church and its leaders meekly capitulated to this form of tyranny"
You mean the Catholic church. The same church that's full of people who aren't Christians. Right?
I'm curious how, exactly, the "voice of the church" was going to stop Hitler. How was protesting against Hitler going to stop armed SS troops? I mean, the Jews protested too and it didn't help them.

Really?
"Secular schools can never be tolerated because such schools have no religious instruction, and a general moral instruction without a religious foundation is built on air; consequently, all character training and religion must be derived from faith. . . we need believing people."
— Hitler, April 26, 1933, during negotiations which led to the Nazi-Vatican Concordat of 1933.
"Embued with the desire to secure for the German people the great religious, moral, and cultural values rooted in the two Christian Confessions, we have abolished the political organizations but strengthened the religious institutions."
— Adolf Hitler, speaking in the Reichstag on Jan. 30, 1934
