"Oh, and 1914 was the year Satan was thrown down out of heaven to the earth."
What? Why?

Well 1914 was the year World War I started. But I don't think OrangeWizard knew that. Which, for some reason, makes this quote even funnier to me.

Oh, and 1914 was the year Satan was thrown down out of heaven to the earth.
This is actually standard Jehovah's Witness doctrine. They derive it from the Book of Daniel. How they do that is a long story; they just do.

I did a little poking around.
Couldnt find any accounts of major quakes between 1914 and 1924.
OTOH there's a whole lot of detailed accounts of quake related devastation through the 19th century.

"Oh, and 1914 was the year Satan was thrown down out of heaven to the earth."
This... doesn't seem to be chronological at all. Christianity was already in full bloom by that point. Satan was thrown out of Heaven before Christ entered the scene.

My grandmother was born in 1914. Coincidence? I think not.
Also in 1914, Charlie Chaplin began his film career, Martha the last passenger pigeon died, Babe Ruth joined the Red Sox and Mother's Day was created. Coincidences? DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH.

If by "earthquake", you mean "World War I and a flu epidemic", then yes, you are correct.

I'm only aware of a single major (by major I mean in terms of loss of life) earthquake in the decade that ran from 1914 through 1923, and it hit Japan on September 1, 1923. Estimates are that about 142K people were killed in that quake, so it's not exactly a small number. But that's nothing compared with the deadliest earthquake in recorded history, which hit China in the year 1556. More than 830K people died in that one...

Hmmm...let's see what Wikipedia says happened in 1914. World War 1, Chaplin's debut, Babe Ruth's debut...nope, not seeing Satan mentioned at all. If it's not in Wikipedia, it can't be true.

Earthquakes recorded as killing more people?
It couldn't have anything to do with better record keeping and/or more and more people living in close quarters in cities with more and taller buildings to fall on those people, could it? Nah, it couldn't!

You fundie morons and your "earthquakes as harbingers of doom" make me laugh. We've gotten better at predicting them, so we detect more of the minor ones than we ever did. Populations have exploded in the last century, so that would account for more deaths.
We know what causes earthquakes and it isn't gods or demons. There is nothing supernatural about them, which is more than the ignorant primitives who wrote your Bible knew at the time, yet you listen to them instead of scientists.
That's why you're morons.
