Climate =/= weather

Citation/s providing evidence that this is coldest winter "in a generation"?
Also just because it's cold outside your house doesn't mean the whole world's climate is like that...
2/2/2010 5:21:26 PM
Dude, you're the only one saying that the Earth is "burning up". Also, the word global means a whole lot more than the view outside your trailer's window.
2/2/2010 5:39:35 PM
Repeat after me, Global Climate Change, not Global Warming. NO one except the right wing retards like you still use the expression Global Warming anymore. No scientist has ever said that the earth would get hot everywhere at the same time. That's not how it works. I suppose it would be too much of me to ask you idiots to understand what you're arguing against. From a global perspective (that means more than simply the USA), the world is heating up gradually. The key word here is "gradually".
2/2/2010 5:45:36 PM
It's not the coldest in a generation.
Protip: Generation > 5 years.
2/2/2010 5:45:48 PM
If you close your eyes, climate change goes away.
2/2/2010 5:48:05 PM
Translation: "I don't know what climate change means."

Anyone who posts on Moonbattery is a dangerous deluded fanatic.

This is the coldest winter in a generation? News to me.
2/2/2010 6:28:32 PM
Vancouver's about to put on the "greenest Winter Olympics ever" and they're not talking about the environmentalists. For fucks sakes, they're making the jumps and moguls out of straw and wood, and actually trucking in made snow from other ski hills throughout the province.
2/2/2010 6:34:55 PM
This is the coldest winter in a generation?
It is over here.
I'm in the South West - we're normally kept pretty temperate by the Gulf Stream, but I was housebound for three weeks as the pavements were just too dangerous to walk on. Hell, just stepping out of my patio doors risked a nasty fall and broken bones! And although we're now back to something closer to normal here, it's still continuing in Scotland.
This is the second winter in a row that the weather has been unusually severe. Obviously nothing like enough data to prove anything, but the trend is for more extreme weather everywhere.
(My heart goes out to the poor people in the Midlands who hadn't yet dried out from the appalling floods we had back in Oct/Nov when they were hit by Arctic temperatures...)

I guess your weather depends on where you live. Here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, we're having an unusually late and mild winter.
I used to walk through light snow for Halloween and would be shut in for Thanksgiving. This year I don't think we had any snow at all until after that point. And the shoveling I've had to do has been far less frequent and much more pleasant.
2/2/2010 7:04:32 PM
For the last time, "it's cold out" is not a fucking argument against climate change!
2/2/2010 7:06:11 PM
Just six years ago, winter here was severe from mid December to end of March.
This January, we had only a handful of days that came close to 0, and as many days of that, we had days above 45, 50... we've had very little snow... no ice storms...
2/2/2010 7:23:07 PM
The average temperature is going up a few degrees pretty fast. If it goes up too much it will melt the polar icecaps and flood most of the land we live on. What is so hard to understand about that?

Percy Q. Shunn
Why do you fucksticks have such a problem with this issue?
2/2/2010 7:55:15 PM
Yes because 'global' warming only affects the USA if it is cold there then global warming is false. Just forget about the other countries like Australia where they had one of the hottest summers.
Look up what climate actually means fool.
2/2/2010 9:29:11 PM
How many times has climate change been explained to you? As many times as evolution? More?
You are being stupid on purpose.
2/2/2010 9:33:38 PM
Im not agreeing with him but just wondering what happened to global warming? When I was growing up thats what we were being taught in school and some people still use that expression. Is it an incorrect expression? Or have we moved onto something else? Any help would be appreciated.

Weather: Day-to-day changes in temperature, humidity, etc.
Climate: Records of weather taken over several years that can indicate gradual changes to the norm.
Climate change: Gradual changes to the global climate, including some areas becoming colder, drier, hotter, etc. than ever before.

temp goes up here, ice melts, temp goes down there--it's not rocket surgery, V the K.
2/2/2010 10:35:18 PM
Actually, been pretty warm here except for the cold snap that moved south, and we've only had one good snow. (NE Ohio on the lake edge of the snowbelt.) THIS MUST MEAN GLOBAL WARMINSS IS MOVIN FASTER.
2/2/2010 11:07:17 PM
You call this winter cold? You are lame.
