[On global warming.]
Anyone who claims, in the midst of the coldest winter in a generation, that the Earth is burning up, is a dangerous deluded fanatic.

Repeat after me, Global Climate Change, not Global Warming. NO one except the right wing retards like you still use the expression Global Warming anymore. No scientist has ever said that the earth would get hot everywhere at the same time. That's not how it works. I suppose it would be too much of me to ask you idiots to understand what you're arguing against. From a global perspective (that means more than simply the USA), the world is heating up gradually. The key word here is "gradually".
Coldest Winter?
Vancouver's about to put on the "greenest Winter Olympics ever" and they're not talking about the environmentalists. For fucks sakes, they're making the jumps and moguls out of straw and wood, and actually trucking in made snow from other ski hills throughout the province.
This is the coldest winter in a generation?
It is over here.

I'm in the South West - we're normally kept pretty temperate by the Gulf Stream, but I was housebound for three weeks as the pavements were just too dangerous to walk on. Hell, just stepping out of my patio doors risked a nasty fall and broken bones! And although we're now back to something closer to normal here, it's still continuing in Scotland.
This is the second winter in a row that the weather has been unusually severe. Obviously nothing like enough data to prove anything, but the trend is for more extreme weather everywhere.
(My heart goes out to the poor people in the Midlands who hadn't yet dried out from the appalling floods we had back in Oct/Nov when they were hit by Arctic temperatures...)
I guess your weather depends on where you live. Here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, we're having an unusually late and mild winter.
I used to walk through light snow for Halloween and would be shut in for Thanksgiving. This year I don't think we had any snow at all until after that point. And the shoveling I've had to do has been far less frequent and much more pleasant.
Coldest? Really?
Just six years ago, winter here was severe from mid December to end of March.
This January, we had only a handful of days that came close to 0, and as many days of that, we had days above 45, 50... we've had very little snow... no ice storms...
Yes because 'global' warming only affects the USA if it is cold there then global warming is false. Just forget about the other countries like Australia where they had one of the hottest summers.
Look up what climate actually means fool.
Weather: Day-to-day changes in temperature, humidity, etc.
Climate: Records of weather taken over several years that can indicate gradual changes to the norm.
Climate change: Gradual changes to the global climate, including some areas becoming colder, drier, hotter, etc. than ever before.
Actually, been pretty warm here except for the cold snap that moved south, and we've only had one good snow. (NE Ohio on the lake edge of the snowbelt.) THIS MUST MEAN GLOBAL WARMINSS IS MOVIN FASTER.
Yeah, here in SW Ohio we had a pretty mild winter. Just one day when I felt it worthwhile to even shovel the driveway, and even that I probably could have gone without. This has probably been one of the milder ones since I moved out here.
Or, come to Australia. See how 'cold' our summers are becoming.
<sigh>
What is it with these people and the concept of 'global'?
So because it's cold in the South, it must be cold everywhere.
Sorry but we're having a pretty warm winter in California.
GEE, THE COLDEST WINTER IN A GENERATION YOU SAY?
SURELY THIS COULD NOT AT ALL BE RELATED TO THE DISRUPTION OF THE CLIMATE
"Anyone who claims, in the midst of the coldest winter in a generation, that the Earth is burning up, is a dangerous deluded fanatic."
Perhaps, but anyone who hasn't noticed the correlation between increased greenhouse gases from human activity and more severe weather and a global average temperature rise is even more dangerous and deluded.
Yes.
Anybody who claims that the weather is getting more extreme in the wake of a Global Climate Change, might have a point, though.
But, this is one single winter. One year is just a fluke, ten years in a row is a trend, fifty years in a row is a fact. It's easier to stop a change before it goes from trend to fact.
We have the coldest winter since 1987. What constitutes "in a generation"?
If only we could leave the matter of IF there is a Climate Change, and go over to What to do to stop it.
It's not as if it's BAD to take better care of the Earth, whether there's a Climate change or not.
I've never claimed that the Earth is burning up. Just parts of Australia.
And seriously, what's so terrible about using less oil? The savings I've made by getting a more fuel efficient car are paying for my holidays.
Anyone who claims, in the midst of pyschological breakthroughs involving schizophrenia and Multiple Personality disorder, that god is speaking to them, is a dangerous deluded fanatic.
Fixed
Also, learn when to use commas, semi-colons, and parantheses. These will serve you well.
We've had an unusually mild winter around here; does that mean I'm allowed to believe in global warming?
If it gets hot in summer, will V the K become a convert?
Oh, and those of you claiming that "no-one uses the term global warming any more" - You're wrong.
The term "Climate Change" was invented by the Bush administration so they could talk about it without admitting that the changes were global in scope, or that they were trending towards higher temperatures.
It was then co-opted by scientists because it allows for more nuances (like dropping temperatures in Britain when Greenland's ice melts and shuts down the Gulf Stream), rather than making people think that any given day would be warmer than every previous day. But they still use "Global Warming" at least as commonly because, you know, the globe is warming.
It's not the Earth burning up or heating up. It's the rising levels of CO2 in the air, which causes the Sun's heat to be trapped and reflected back onto us. This has many effects. While, yes, SOME of the world is heating up, other things are happening elsewehere. For example, the ice caps are metling, which causes flooding.
Also, the seas are getting warmer. This means that the Gulf Stream, which is all that's keeping the UK warm (I'm a Brit, and my town is as far North as Moscow) is stopping and reversing. This means that Britain will end up as a mini-Russia, and we Brits won't like that, so STOP MESSING UP THE CLIMATE!
Simple clue people. The northern and southern ice shelves IS retreating, melting. When ice melts it doesn't become warm water, it becomes first thawed water and cold air.
Cold air means what kids?
Now the waters still cold but a little warmer than what it was. did ya check the iceberg that used to be part of the Antartic Ice shelf floating towards Australia. That wouldn't cool the waters and air would it? A 19 by 8 mile icecube would do nothing do nothing. Right?
Australias having a heat wave again I believe, if the winds carry it right they may luck out
@Berny: "Repeat after me, Global Climate Change, not Global Warming. NO one except the right wing retards like you still use the expression Global Warming anymore."
You keep repeating that as though it's true, it's certainly not as regards the scientific literature.

@ Amanda Mei :
Can I watch?
It has been a quiet week in Iraq.
Therefore, the war on terror is over.
What, your logic only works on "left-wing agendas", not the other way around? Aww.
This latest winter was a very mild one up here. We had bare ground as late as mid January, and me and hubby could go by bike to work almost all winter. (There were a week or so, when the snow was melting and then freezing again, that made the bicycle paths dangerously icy, and a few days with too much rain in the morning; no good sitting in wet clothes all work-day, is it?)
Needing to use fake snow in the Vasaloppet , that is no good sign, stupid.
"Winter is cold, therefore global warming is a lie."
That's nice, now go play in traffic.
Confused?
