Quote# 70050

(In response to being told that there were gays and lesbians around when she was young.)

There's a reason they say "ignorance is bliss!" It was nice back when it wasn't shoved in our kids' faces. My daughter had "one" for calculus at The University of Texas and I was visiting and sat in on her class one time. Talk about being totally clueless- not only did I have not a clue about the math being taught, having studiously avoided as much math as possible in my own college career, but now this he/she/it is up there teaching it. My daughter liked the person and thought it was a good teacher. Just stranger than hell to me, but it's a different world.

Notice how they're slowly starting to admit how stupid they are.

Seems your daughter doesn't have a problem, even saying he's a good teacher. Maybe you are the problem.

Wow. It's as if Retro thinks the homophobia isn't enough to piss me off, and has to throw in some math-hating too. CALC ROOLS FUNDIE DROOLS

So if you hate math, how do you expand the recipe of whatever you're cooking, when it's your turn to have Bible Study at your house?

Or do you just haul over to KFC, order the mega bucket, and tell whatever teenage kid is unfortunate enough to serve you that they're going to Hell for not being unwhite / Not a True Christian(TM) / a female in the workplace / whatever you're pissed off about tonight?

Have you figured out yet why your daughter never calls you?

The math part made my day. Hey, everybody is weak at some things, that's no shame, but that's not something you want to present as good!

WTF?!?

Why did you feel the need to sit in on your daughter's college class?

And what's with the math-hating?

There's a reason they say "ignorance is bliss!"

Then you must be the happiest person ever.

This is priceless. A brilliant gay man (or a Lesbian?) teaching calculus at university, and putting this frumpy, bigoted, stinking riff-raff in her place without even knowing or caring that she exists.

Now, I'm young, and don't know what it's like to be middle-aged or older. I want to be sympathetic, or at least forgiving (it's the Christian thing...) or perhaps understanding about some overweight, fifty-year-old, high-school educated housewife from a flyover state. Modernity really is an alien world to her. If you've seen Les visiteurs, that's basically my impression of this kind of person. And time travellers from the twelth century are endearing.

"One"!

In the first sentence the exclamation point should be outside of the quotation marks.

"not only did I have not a clue about the math being taught, having studiously avoided as much math as possible in my own college career..."

As well as art, science, history, literature, and so on....

/There's a reason they say "ignorance is bliss!" It was nice back when it wasn't shoved in our kids' faces./

Yes, just like it was nice in the 1950's when interracial marriage wasn't shoved into kids' faces and blacks stayed at the back of the bus and "knew their place." *sarcasm*

Nobody is shoving anything into your face. Homosexuals being allowed to be who they are instead of being expected to hide it like a dirty little secret is not the same thing as shoving their sexuality into people's faces. I know people who are gay. At no point during my conversations with them do they shove their sexuality into my face or make out with each other in front of me. The mere fact of them being gay only comes up occasionally and usually just as a passing thought. Most of the time, we have conversations like NORMAL PEOPLE.

But, of course, to you, the mere idea of homosexuals actually existing and people acknowledging that fact is tantamount to "shoving it in our kids' faces." *sigh*

/My daughter had "one" for calculus at The University of Texas and I was visiting and sat in on her class one time./

"One?" Oh, how nice and sensitive of you. I guess you must have cheered on McCain when he referred to Obama as "that one." Because we all know that homosexuals are one faceless entity instead of a group of individuals. Instead of a group of PEOPLE, who have names and dreams and opinions and do not go by the name "one." Miserable bigot.

/Talk about being totally clueless- not only did I have not a clue about the math being taught, having studiously avoided as much math as possible in my own college career,/

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I do sympathize here, because I loathe math as well.

/but now this he/she/it is up there teaching it./

*grinds teeth* Listen, you patronizing, condescending scumbag. Your daughter's teacher is a PERSON. He or she is a gay man or lesbian woman. The teacher's sexuality does not make him or her a hermaphrodite or a transsexual. And the fact that you even had the nerve to include "it" as one of the pronouns used to describe the teacher is beyond insulting. The teacher is not an animal. The teacher is not some rare specimen of beetle or an alien species that has yet to be classified.

/My daughter liked the person/

Praise the Lord! Hopefully, your daughter will turn out to be a better person than you.

/and thought it was a good teacher./

"It." IT. Do you realize that hardcore racists used to refer to black people as "it?" Or that dehumanization of people is one of the most frequent tactics used to justify slaughtering them? Homosexuals are not animals. They are human beings just like you and me. If you're going to persist in calling this teacher an "it" just because he or she is homosexual, then I have every right to refer to you as "it."

/Just stranger than hell to me, but it's a different world./

Yes, because heaven forbid your daughter learn anything from a homosexual teacher. Heaven forbid your daughter learn that homosexuals are normal human beings - NOT animals to be called "it." If you ever are stupid enough to call your daughter's teacher "it" right in front of her, I hope that she screams at you for being such an awful person and refuses to speak to you for a month.

Guess what, Retardo, "they" have handled your food too. And processed your taxes. And given you parking tickets, and sold you uderwear, and really been involved in just about every interaction you have with the world. Out of every 10 or 20 people you encounter, at least one or two will be one of "them." there's probably some lurking in your church - maybe even the pastor.

So to be truly "safe," you'd better dig a six-foot hole, climb in, and have a trusted hetero shovel all the dirt back on top of you. That'll solve everyone's problems.

Got a bit of a news flash for ya, pal. Ignorance, despite what you may or may not have heard, is NOT bliss. It's dangerous.

1/31/2010 6:52:55 PM

I bet Retro is so ignorant they don't know what that word means.

There's a reason they say "ignorance is bliss!"

Ignorance may be bliss, but it is still ignorance.

It was nice back when it wasn't shoved in our kids' faces.

I'm sorry I was unaware that gays and lesbians take every possible opportunity to drop trou and screw each other every time that a kid happens to be present, because that would be "shoving it in your kids face.", wheareas simply allowing the world to know they exist would not.

My daughter had "one" for calculus at The University of Texas

"one" what? They are human beings just like you, not inhuman monsters from another world. You sound just like my fundie grandparents whenever they had the occasion to mention or acknowledge the existance of non-whites (Whom they lovingly refered as "devilniggers", no matter what color they were because they said that the bible says god only made white people.)

I was visiting and sat in on her class one time

That must have been quite embarrasing for her

Talk about being totally clueless

That's whats called "A Moment of Clarity."

not only did I have not a clue about the math being taught, having studiously avoided as much math as possible in my own college career

And you disgustingly wallow in your own ignorance as if it were something to be proud of.

but now this he/she/it is up there teaching it.

First of, homosexuals are not confused about their gender identity. Gay men don't want to be women and lesbians don't want to be men as you seem to be implying.

Secondly, If you think that there were no gay or lesbian teachers when you were in school then you are an idiot of the first class, or you are so deeply in denile that you might as well be in a river in egypt. Hell, you quite possibly had a gay or lesbian teacher yourself. Just because someone is "out" about they're sexual orientation dosen't mean that they are not homosexual.

My daughter liked the person and thought it was a good teacher.

You say that as if a person sexual orientation has any bearing on their ability to teach calculus, or any other subject.

Just stranger than hell to me

Only because you have led a deliberatly sheltered life of willful ignorance and denial of reality.

but it's a different world

You say that as if it were a bad thing, as if societal progress were a bad thing. I guess that's to be expected from people who idealized the dark ages when everyone believed what they were told to believe under penalty of death.

@Gawd:

No, the exclamation point belongs inside the quotation marks in the first sentence. In fact, that punctuation is about the only thing about this comment that isn't wrong and offensive.

It's no surprise that a creationist avoids math.

Way too dumb for it.

Zoo

I might call a snake or lizard of indeterminate gender a "he/she/it" and then settle for "it". Essentially you're putting this person on the level of a snake. Instead of "it", you could at least acknowledge that this person is indeed a person, no matter how much you disagree with him or her. Unless you wish the rest of us to start referring to you as "it".
