[Regarding the Burj Khalifa in Duba]

Let'em build it to the moon. Let'em build it to heaven. We all know what happened to the last bunch who thought it was a good idea to do the impossible and try to rise above a flood and be as high as G-d.

This time I don't think he will be quite as forgiving and just make them speak new languages... Something tells me He's gonna level that building along with every other modern day Ziggeraut, and mountain, and hill. Then again I would say that would be the least of the worlds worries when it happened.

So, would you have been saying this back when the tallest buildings were American?

Cthulhu

But God loves the Empire State Building and the Sears Tower!

"Let'em build it to the moon."

We've been to the moon and your God didn't seem to mind.

Something tells me He's gonna level that building

Something tells me we might need to call Interpol about you, SPYDYR....

SpacemanSpiff

Somebody needs to just off all these idiots over at RR so we don't have to listen to this kind of stupidity, it's what they're praying for anyway.

1/30/2010 3:27:58 PM

For some reasonw hen we were building the Empire State Building and whatnot, it was a sign from God about ow great and blessed we are. But now some Arabs are making an even bigger tower, they are cursed by God and this is the sign. Brilliant... just brilliant.

So to take this point, Spydyr would also be implying that GOD wanted to destroy the Twin Towers also because they were "too big".

1/30/2010 3:43:45 PM

But it was an outrage when the VERY TALL World Trade Center was brought down by those Godless infidels (not God), right?

1/30/2010 3:43:50 PM

"Something tells me He's gonna level that building along with every other modern day Ziggeraut, and mountain, and hill."

Then maybe you need some medication, because you are apparently unable to understand that the Tower of Babel story is fiction. Also, man has been building very big things, like the pyramids, for thousands of years, and they haven't been "leveled" by God yet.

How far "above" the Earth are Voyager 1 and 2 these days?

1/30/2010 3:59:04 PM

Doctor Whom

Just look at all of the tall buildings in existence. Their TV towers leave scratch marks on the firmament, and God is not mocked.

Keep dreaming kid.

I've done the impossible several times before. It's surprisingly easy.

God doesn't want tall buildings reaching high up into the sky, yet he's cool with the space program (which, if you didn't know, many fundies had a huge problem with)?

@ VRA
LOL. Fuckin' saved.

Somebody can't stand the thought of the ol' USA being outdone by another country in any way.

The ancients couldn't have built a structure much higher than the Great Pyramid (481 feet). They certainly couldn't have built one anywhere near that high with mud brick and bitumen. God would have known that. That's how we know the Tower of Babel story was invented by bronze age Arab goat herders and couldn't have come from God. Voyager 1 is currently about 10 billion miles out into space. Another spacecraft is currently orbiting Saturn. If God didn't stop those, why would He bother with some piddling little building?

1/30/2010 5:17:02 PM

And I would say you're a delusional idiot in need of medication.

Any day now. Any day.

I'd be willing to bet that today's shortest skyscraper is higher than the tower of babel could ever have hoped to be.

1/30/2010 7:27:15 PM

funny how the same people would have been cheering the construction of the Empire State Building and the Twin Towers. But of course since it's brown people building it, it is evil.

But if the tower was built by White Christians, and was constructed in Amurica, I'm sure it would be a blessing from God....
