Quote# 70158

The tilt of the axis was not caused by the flood but rather the flood was caused by the tilt of the axis (the birth of Venus).

"In the lifetime of [Emperor] Yao the sun did not set for ten full days and the entire land was flooded." -- Johannes Hübner, evangelist, 1729

Doubting Thomas

Uh yeah. Got any evidence for this except for ancient holy books?

You fail astrophysics forever.

2/9/2010 2:10:39 PM

Crap. double post.

2/9/2010 2:10:44 PM

This defies all forms of logic.

Are you suggesting that the planet Venus popped into existence during Biblical times? Sorry, but cultures that predate Christianity were well aware of Venus since it's visible with the naked eye.

Sandro Boticelli would like a word with you.

Too much pot during Sunday School class?

David B.

Oh well, if an evangelist said it, it must be true. They're like totally unbiased in their appraisal of biblical evidence!

Emperor Yao is a mythology figure, BTW. It's a bit like using Harry Potter to validate your belief in witchcraft.

Oh wait, you do that too.

I think this guy is actually quoting something he found in the works, (I think it is Worlds in Collision) of Velikovsky. Well Velikovsky was a loon although I thought the time in which Fundamentalists and others would refer to his nonsense was long past.

The birth of Venus is a dead giveaway. Velikovsky thought that Venus errupted from Jupiter some time c. 2500 or sooner B.C.

the were floods that happened when the earth got it's tilt (after the newly formed earth was hit by a mars sized protoplanet), though these floods were just gigantic tidal bores (that also went very fast), this was also a few billion years ago.

But what this dude is going on about makes no sense at all.

Large Hardon Collider

Considering watches weren't invented yet, if the sun didn't set, how would they have known 10 days had passed?

When I want solid facts I always turn to an evangelist.

How nice to see that my customer base is growing. No wonder I have had so many orders. Well....enough playing around....off to grow some more mushrooms..........

Table Rock

I'm not sure what you're saying. The flood was caused by the tilt? The Earth was an Etch a Sketch?

2/9/2010 7:02:24 PM

We're supposed to take the word of an evangelist from the 17th century? Of course that's assuming that it wasn't made up by someone else.

Funny how I have not heard such writtings from actually translated Chinese texts.

Oh, and I looked up Emperor Yao on Wikipedia
"See also Chinese mythology"
So did this guy even exist?

2/9/2010 7:27:26 PM

Oh dear, they raped astrophysics.

2/10/2010 4:23:47 AM

This is pretty typical. Jack van Impe and Hovind do shit like this, quoteing mythological stories as proof of his mythological God.

An Evangelist would have gotten away with this easy in 1729, very few educated enough to call him on it.
