Quote# 7017

Memories: How the heck do you think that an organism could evolve a memory. You cant, and I can't believe that it's so casually overlooked by soooo many people. You cant evolve the ability to remember farther back in the past.

There are important differences between \"I don't know how memory could have evolved\" and \"I don't know how memory could evolve therefore I couldn't have evoloved.\" Just because you don't know the answer to a question does not mean that there is no answer. Also, just because you don't know of a logical answer, that doesn't mean that the correct answer is some illogical conjecture of yours.

Well I imagine we wouldn't last to long if we couldn't remember where food was, or what creatures wanted to eat us.

It is called a brain. Go get a new one since the one you have obviously isn't working.

Wow...it's a good thing an organism would never have to recall where resources might be and where a threat is...otherwise we might have to evolve the ability to recall such facts.

Its not the ignorance that gets me. Its not even the smug assumption that he/she has found the perfect, knock-down argument that's going to bury evolution once and for all.

Its the fact that, no matter how many times we explain it, Darklighter will go to the grave convinced that he/she is right.

By evolving a bigger brain, maybe?

Self preservation is an instinct, it's our hardwire primitive brain that has learned to blink, divert or move things coming at us. You see it in infancy. It's reflex at this stage of our existance.

Things that don't react this way suffer injury or loss of senses and die off without reproducing, even if they do they passed on unproductive traits. Memory is what higher brains are all about but even lower creature live and learn.
