Quote# 70307

It's June 12,2008 and where I live, in Southeast Washington State, the sun now sets in the NORTH, while it used to set in the WEST. It's not tracking as it used to at all, and neither is the moon. My wife and I have been watching these changes for about two years now, and MANY people we talk to around here are asking why this is happening. The only logical explanation is that the earth's tilt is shifting. I don't know what makes you actually believe that the governments of the world cannot stifle the news media, or are you really that naive? All they have to do is say that it is a matter of National Security, and it's done. If you honestly can't see the changes in the locations of the constellations, the sun track and the moon track, then please visit your vision expert. Wake up, kids, something big IS happening. We humans have never seen it happen before, so how do we know how it's supposed to look? I happen to think that a sudden rash of volcano eruptions and earthquakes is significant, especially when it is accompanied by a reported shift in the earth's axis. Has NOBODY ever heard of the HAB theory? Listen, stick your head in the sand if you want, it's perfectly OK with me, but when the sun starts to suddenly change what it's been doing since the day I was born, I pay attention.

What's so special about the day you were born? I mean, why the shift just because you popped out like a pimple?

Were you born in a manger, by any chance?

Have you considered that maybe your compass is broken? If the Earth's tilt really was shifting, we'd be noticing some huge fucking changes in the seasons and even bigger changes in the global climate than we're currently seeing. Seeing as how winter still starts in late October/November and we can still expect spring about 4 months later (where I live, anyway), I doubt this shift is happening.

Yes the sun sets further North in June than it does in December, that's a fact, but if you're trying to say that it is setting due North, I think as a Canadian, I'd notice. Go out, get a **good** compass and try using that.

See, the wet coast rots peoples brains...

And yet my twenty-year-old astronomy software still correctly predicts when and in which direction the sun will rise....

I've got it: student pranksters. They got together one night while he was sleeping and rotated his house 90°.

EDIT: One or two other comments on that post are also priceless. At least, I wouldn't pay for them.

"in Southeast Washington State, the sun now sets in the NORTH, while it used to set in the WEST."

Um, are you absolutely certain you're facing north when you watch the sunset?

"and MANY people we talk to around here are asking why this is happening."

The voices in your head don't count. Now if a bunch of scientists had actually mentioned noticing this, I'd be concerned. But where I live the sun still sets in the west and rises in the east.

"The only logical explanation is that the earth's tilt is shifting."

Or that your Haldol prescription ran out.

"I don't know what makes you actually believe that the governments of the world cannot stifle the news media, or are you really that naive? All they have to do is say that it is a matter of National Security, and it's done."

Yeah, that would keep the entire world's population from questioning why the earth is spinning on a different axis...

"Wake up"

If I had a dollar every time I saw this phrase in a crazy post...

"We humans have never seen it happen before..."

Nor are we seeing it today.

"I happen to think that a sudden rash of volcano eruptions and earthquakes is significant, especially when it is accompanied by a reported shift in the earth's axis."

And if the earth did start spinning on a different axis, we'd see a lot more than a few volcanos and occasional earthquakes. It would be massive worldwide calamity.

"Has NOBODY ever heard of the HAB theory?"

Apparently nobody with a rational mind.

"Listen, stick your head in the sand if you want, it's perfectly OK with me"

Apparently not, because a little while ago you were exhorting people to wake up. And the last thing a conspiracy nut wants people to do is not listen to them.

And, funny, ONLY YOU are aware of this, not the rest of the planet, who logically should be suffering the consequences.

It was an apocalyptic fiction novel from 1976. The central premise was that the Earth's magnetic field flipped orientation (this actually happens ever few million years), leading to all kinds of crazy (and scientifically impossible) events.

The plotting and characterisation are decent, but I don't think even the author would consider the science in any way accurate, or even researched.

And we, the rest of the mortals who, logically, should be suffering the physical consequences of the phenomenon, which logically should take place if so, are calmly knowing it through a couple of crackpots in Washington on Internet. Speaks volumes, I think.

Let me guess, you're the type of person who always gets lost when you have to drive somewhere.

If the sun was setting in the north, we'd be seeing drastic changes in the seasons as well as the times of day for sunrise and sunset.

In June, it's summer. The Sun rises in the northeast and sets in the northwest. In December, it will rise in the southeast and set in the southwest. Nothing new here. The ancients knew this. There are places like Newgrange where the sunrise (or sunset) only line up on the solstice because of this north-south progression.

That's nothing. Over where I live the sun rises in the North and sets in the Up.
