Why do Atheists want to die? ... Christians want to live forever. Atheists don't. Christians want to Live. Atheists want to Die. Why? At some point, did an Atheist make a choice to reject the life that had been given to him by God? At some point, did a Christian make a choice to accept the life that had been given to him by God? Why do Atheists want to commit suicide? Some might say, 'I'm an Atheist, but I love life. I just wouldn't want to live forever.' But when you reject the offer of eternal life, or even refuse to investigate its existence, then what other word is there to describe it than suicide ? Why do you want to die?

First of all, the whole concept of "eternal life" is unsupported by any evidence.
Secondly, I can't imagine anything worse than having to be alive forever. I think it is quite comforting that life is fleeting and impermanent. Death is just a part of life, and it should be accepted, not feared.
It's not a matter of WANT, it's a matter of reality.
BTW: I died last year after an accident, for two minutes. THere was no light, no paradise and no hell.
What the freaking hell is so great about eternal life? It's like my hell, being alive forever. There was even a Disney movie where immortality was a curse, and at the end of the movie, the good guy died, and it was super.
The only way living forever would appeal would be if I got to see other planes of existence. Being stuck in this one would get boring.
By the way, everyone dies. Death is the great equalizer: The noble, the farmer, and the drunkard will all one day end up as worm food, and status and wealth will not hold sway. That's the beauty of death, no one is ever better than anyone else that they can avoid it. Even supposing we have souls, I don't see how that changes the fact that everything dies sooner or later.
To borrow from Marilyn Manson's "The Reflecting God", 'without the threat of death there's no reason to live at all'. Our lives are short and fragile, but that's exactly what makes them so wonderful. Do you know why gold and diamonds, two things with no practical value for the average person, are considered to be so valuable? It's because they are rare. Life is the same. If you had an infinite supply, it would be completely worthless and there would be no reason to do anything. Give me a long life, centuries or even millenia to see the universe, but do not curse me with an endless journey into the ennui of eternity.
Everyone dies. Only the deluded believe in some postmortem reward.
I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

It's not a question of want, it's a question of looking at the evidence. Where's the evidence that God ever promised anything like that, where's the evidence that Neanderthals and Cro-Magnons are still living somewhere?
Nope, the Bible doesn't count.
OK, I don't want to live forever, it ought to be incredibly boring after a few million years. And the Earth would be standing room only, by now.
I want to live a full life, until I die of old age.
How old are you, eclipsoul? 18? When you have lived five times that, you might be tired of life, and rather content that it's about to end.
Wait . . do you think that just by believing that you live forever means you actually live forever?
So if I just believe that I'm going to win the lottery tomorrow, does that mean I'm actually going to? Because I'd really like to be able to to win the lottery.
I don't believe I'm going to win the lottery because the odds are against strongly against it (especially seeing that I didn't by a lottery ticket) and it directly conflicts with everything that I know about reality.
"Why do Atheists want to die?"
Why do fundies want to 'believe' that there's a life - specifically a 'Heaven' - after death?
Why can't your 'God' give people eternal life now ?
Aye, there's the rub indeed.
I think you've confused atheist with suicidal.
I would love to live forever, I think its weird when people say they wouldnt.
Christians want to Live. Atheists want to Die.
Eclipsoul, meet Rapture Ready. Rapture Ready, eclipsoul.

Indeed. To outlive everyone and everything I cherish, to me, is a fate worse than death. To outlive existence itself? Brrr...
I don't want to die. I don't even want to entertain the notion of it's inevitability. But there it is. There is no other option. I'm gonna die, and it's gonna be forever, and the same damned thing is going to happen to you, no matter what imaginary friend's tuchus you cozy up to.
But when you reject the offer of eternal life, or even refuse to investigate its existence, then what other word is there to describe it than suicide? Why do you want to die?
Some days ago, I received an eMail from Nigeria, which claimed that they need my bank account to make a transfer of several million dollars, and they offered me 10% of the whole sum as compensation.
Why did I move this eMail immediately into the trash? Why didn't I accept the offer of a huge fortune? Why did I refuse to even investigate its existence? Easy: The millions of dollars don't exist. It's a scam.
The same applies to the alleged "offer" of eternal life. Contrary to what is claimed, it does not exist, and even worse: It does not come free. Btw, I DID investigate its alleged "existence". I came to the conclusion that no eternal afterlife exists, regardless what we do or what we believe. There is simply no question of "want". There is nothing to choose.
Get used to it. Now stop worrying, and enjoy your life.
Confused?
