Quote# 704

[On clinical depression]

While what you are experiencing may simply be demonic attack exacerbated by isolation from a community, it may also be a physiochemical imbalance needing a medical doctor's intervention. Please do look into both courses of action.

And the course of action for a demon attack is what exactly? Cast Protection from Evil 10' radius. Cast Bless. Then you probably need to know exactly what kind of demon it is, Ice Storm is great if it's your standard fire demon - gotta love that double damage.

Well . . . at least he also suggested it might NOT be demonic.

The brain is an organ it can fail like any other organ - do diabetics need to be exorcised to no longer need insulin?

There is not even a correlation to suggest that people that follow the teachings of a Religion or pray to a higher power have any less mental illnesses than those that do not.

Yeah, but start by seeing a doctor (not a doctor of theology). If that doesn't help, see another doctor (again, not a doctor of theology). Continue as needed.

OK, you phone the local therapist, I'll fetch the Inquisitor. Reckon it's worth calling in Grey Knight support, or shall we find out if the physiochemical imbalance is more likely than heresy and witchcraft first?

While the demon thing is pretty kooky, this is kinda mild, really.

But... I don't /want/ my dysthimia to be demons. Can it be nice fairies instead? Or little pink elephants? Or a tyrannical bastard in the sky who gets off watching people burn in Hell?

And that would be why the Catholic Church has performed far fewer exorcisms in the last century or so.
