1. mental illness is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain.
2. belief in falshoods is a symptom of mental illness, not a cause.
3. boys have penis', girls have vagina's. Most kids figure this out by 3.
4. Yep
5. Yep
6. As opposed to "the devil made me do it"?
7. Well I know if I had to go through what my father is going through, I'd see death as a relief.
8. huh?
9. People can control their desires, but why? Why shouldn't they enjoy themselves?
10. It's there to keep you idiots from setting up your theocracy, which would cause more depression and suicides.
11. Yeah, because everyone who gets cancer deserves it, and they deserve to become homeless because of it.
12. I always hate when entitled little snot nosed brats who never worked a day in their lives look down on the poor and claim that they 'just don't want it bad enough'.

Conservapedia is actually a real life case study in religious and political insanity.
I don't mind an idea like Conservapedia, I don't like it when 99% of everything they publish is demonstrably a lie.
It basically boils down to:
Conservapedia == lies

There are already quite a few comments here, but I'm going to give mine before I read the rest.
* Lying about the truth, causing belief in falsehoods or encouraging conduct disorders[9]
-I do not encourage lying about truth or encouraging conduct disorders. I, personally, raise my children to speak the truth as well as seek the truth and to cunduct themselves in a civil manner. And, yes, we are a family of liberal atheists (and proud of it).
* There are no real differences between boys and girls.
-There are many differences between boys and girls. A very basic understanding og biology will demonstrate that. There are, however, instances where boys and girls can be equal.
* Humans are just another type of animal.
-We are animals of the mamillian variety. A basic understanding of biology willl demonstrate that.
* All there is is what you see (with or without special equipment, such as microscopes or telescopes).
All we can know is what can be observed and tested. If we can't see/test it, we can not know it exists.
* Conversely, that an unproven 'unconscious' excuses evil actions.
-There is no excuse for evil. Evil is, in part, the causing of uneccessary suffering of the innocent. Anyone who engages in evil should be held accountable for their actions and treated accordingly.
* Self-inflicted death (i.e. suicide) can somehow be good.
-Suicide is a sad thing for those loved ones that remain, however, if a person is suffering needlessly it is thier own choice how to end their suffering.
* Denying self-defense, mentally and physically.
-Self defense is a good thing. There are evil people in the world and one must be prepared to defend himself/herself against evil people.
* Denying the ability to control sexual desires (such as homosexuality & lesbianism); promoting lifestyles that lead to mental illness.
-I encourage the controlling one's own sexual desires. People who impulsively and uncontrollably act upon their sexual desires are often called rapists. I do not agree with trying to control someone else's natrual orientation, be it heterosexual, bisexual or homosexual.
* Insisting on an illogical and unjustified "wall of separation of church and state"; When classroom prayer would promote mental stability.
-I beleive int he logical and justified separation of religion and secualr politics/government. There are coutnries that combine "church and state" such as Iran. Which prayers should be said int he classroom and who gets to decide? Would you want your child beinf forced to recite Wiccan or Hindu prayers? If not, why should anyone be forced to recite the prayers to your mythological being?
* Encouraging dependence on state welfare services rather than taking responsibility for ones own actions. Dependency is a major cause of depression.
-Helping those in need, be it through food, money, healthcare, etc. all while encouraging self reliance to ween them off the help is not only a decent thing to do, but is also a quality esposed by all major religious texts, including the Christian Bible.
* Socialistic theories based upon materialism encourage nihilism and depresion.
-I do not encourage socialistic theories based on materialism, nor do I encourage nihilism or depression. I do however, encourage socialistic theories based on basic human compassion, compassion that includes helping those who are depressed.

Okay, I just read the article. It`s completely full of shit. You know what can cause a spike in depression rates? Stress. On top of that the stigma against mental illness is fading away so people are more likely to get diagnosed and be open about it, thus making it seem like there's a pandemic when it's been there the whole time.
And yes, there is evidence that this is exactly what's happening. In my own family getting diagnosed is a very recent thing, but looking back at the behavior of prior generations it's likely that depression runs in the family.
Also for the record, chemical imbalances simply describe what it physically happening, not what caused it to happen. In my case it's just genetics, in others it's trauma and in still others it could be an odd mix of environmental factors.

"All there is is what you see (with or without special equipment, such as microscopes or telescopes)."
And believing in all that stuff that you can't see, observe or that you can find any empirical evidence for is obviously sane?
So this would make unconditional belief in alien greys, fairies, mind - control satellites, and those hallucination bugs under your skin that alcoholics get when they get the DT's all signs of a mentally healthy stable personality?

*Lying about the truth, causing belief in falsehoods or encouraging conduct disorders
Except every public school I was in was pretty strict about conduct and hated it when students lied.
*There are no real differences between boys and girls.
Most of the differences are socially or culturally imposed, beyond the obvious biological differences.
*Humans are just another type of animal.
I believe it was the Christian Creationist Carolus Linnaeus who figured that one out, so you have only your own side to blame.
*All there is is what you see (with or without special equipment, such as microscopes or telescopes).
A reasonable enough approach to reality, but it's not QUITE accurate. Occam's Razor is a better way to put it.
*Conversely, that an unproven 'unconscious' excuses evil actions.
Evil actions lack excuses. The only objection have is over what is and is not evil.
*Self-inflicted death (i.e. suicide) can somehow be good.
Actually, the public schools teach nothing of the sort. Mine had all sorts of information on suicide hotlines and ways to get help for someone who had suicidal thoughts. Hell, it was a non-Christian classmate who stopped me from offing myself in middle school.
*Denying self-defense, mentally and physically.
Not at all. They neither encourage nor deny it. Guns, however, are not particularly necessary or useful for self-defense; if you try to use one to protect yourself in a dangerous situation, you need to be able to not go completely to pieces in such a situation or else you'll just throw your life away needlessly or accidentally hurt yourself. A better way to encourage self-defense: martial arts lessons.
*Denying the ability to control sexual desires (such as homosexuality and lesbianism); promoting lifestyles which lead to mental illness.
There's no evidence that sexual orientation can be controlled, or that they lead to mental illness.
*Insisting on an illogical and unjustified "wall of separation of church and state" when classroom prayer would promote mental stability.
Talking to yourself hardly promotes mental stability. Also, 1st Amendment, bitch.
*Encouraging dependence on state welfare services rather than taking responsibility for one's own actions. Dependency is a major cause of depression.
State welfare services are hardly enough to support a lifestyle of any kind, let alone a comfortable or enjoyable one. You're talking out your ass.
*Socialistic theories based upon materialism encourage nihilism and depression.
Capitalism is based on materialism. Socialism is based on human value. Nihilism and depression are irrelevant.

* Lying about the truth, causing belief in falsehoods or encouraging conduct disorders
Guard your irony meters!
* There are no real differences between boys and girls.
Nobody's claiming that. Only that those differences don't mean that women are inferior beings who belong solely in the kitchen.
* Humans are just another type of animal.
We're not vegetables, and we're not minerals. What does that leave?
* All there is is what you see (with or without special equipment, such as microscopes or telescopes).
Heavens no. We don't claim to know everything. If scientists had discovered everything there is to know about the universe, they'd stop.
* Conversely, that an unproven 'unconscious' excuses evil actions.
Uh...no. I've never heard anybody claim that. However, I've heard fundies use "I'm doing it for Jesus!" as an excuse for THEIR evil actions.
* Self-inflicted death (i.e. suicide) can somehow be good.
Nope. Don't see any liberals encouraging suicide. Kindly stop making shit up as you go.
* Denying self-defense, mentally and physically.
BULL. I fully support self-defense. Or is it because we know the difference between "self-defense" and "beating up everyone you don't like?"
* Denying the ability to control sexual desires (such as homosexuality & lesbianism); promoting lifestyles that lead to mental illness.
Nope. We control out desires just fine...better than you guys, in fact. Largely because we're allowed to exercise our desires in ways that don't hurt anyone.
* Insisting on an illogical and unjustified "wall of separation of church and state"; When classroom prayer would promote mental stability.
Would you like it if we allowed classroom Muslim prayer? Hindu? Scientologist? When you understand why that would suck, you will understand why forced Christian prayer would also suck, and does NOT "promote mental stability."
* Encouraging dependence on state welfare services rather than taking responsibility for ones own actions. Dependency is a major cause of depression.
Not as major as hearing nothing but "GET A JOB, YA BUM!" when you're in desperate need of charity. Even responsible people need a helping hand now and then.
* Socialistic theories based upon materialism encourage nihilism and depresion.
Based on materialism, eh? And which of our two groups is it encouraging a "buy, buy, buy" free-market society where the rich get richer? And if you really hate socialism, we'll be happy to take away all the socialist programs you benefit from. Highway maintenance, the police department, the fire department, and the military, just to name a few.

@Swede: "Why this "homosexuality AND lesbianism"? That's like saying "cars and Volvo's". "
In fairness I don't think Volvos should technically be considered cars. More like hairdryers with wheels. Excellent point though.

Medical professionals emphasize that they do not know what causes mental illness.[8] Accordingly, they cannot rule out that RELIGIOUS indoctrination is a contributing factor.
Teaching children to accept and believe things
that are demonstrably false cannot help mental health. Included in this category are the fundie teachings in CHURCH and from the BIBLE.

The lies here really aren't much more outrageous than the ones told on FOX News, 24/7, by all the other right-wing Republicans. This could just as easily be Glen Beck talking. They'd tell you the moon is made of candy if they thought it would get them one step closer to being back in total control.

Wrong. Most mental disorders/illness can be traced to a chemical imbalance in the brain.
Accordingly, they cannot rule out that liberal indoctrination is a contributing factor.
Very wrong.
* Lying about the truth, causing belief in falsehoods or encouraging conduct disorders
Says the "encyclopedia" which lies claiming that Obama is really a Muslim.
* There are no real differences between boys and girls.
Are you talking biologically, or mentally? Because there obvious differences between males and females biologically, and no difference mentally. We just aren't claiming that a woman is required to only be a homemaker and baby factory, rather she can do what she wants.
* Humans are just another type of animal.
That's cause we are one. Any biology book with reputable sources will tell you that.
* All there is is what you see (with or without special equipment, such as microscopes or telescopes).
You mean being able to see and prove things with repeated results, like what we do in science?
* Conversely, that an unproven 'unconscious' excuses evil actions.
Pure evil doesn't have an excuse. However, there is no such thing as pure evil. A person doesn't do something to be evil in their own mind.
* Self-inflicted death (i.e. suicide) can somehow be good.
I went to Catholic school, where they told us hell was a punishment for suicide. There was no suicide watch numbers posted on the walls. A friend committed suicide after graduating high school, he felt guilty for being a gay Catholic. Conversely, a friend I had that went to a public school, they had flyers saying stuff like "Feeling depressed, suicidal? Please call *whatever number it was* right now to get some help before it's to late."
* Denying self-defense, mentally and physically.
Self defense can be good. I took martial arts growing up as a way to defend myself. One of the lessons which you seem to not grasp is to never attack until you are.
* Denying the ability to control sexual desires (such as homosexuality & lesbianism); promoting lifestyles that lead to mental illness.
As long as all parties involved are consenting and are in just mind, then why should they be denied wether it's homosexuality, asexuality, bisexuality, or heterosexuality?
* Insisting on an illogical and unjustified "wall of separation of church and state"; When classroom prayer would promote mental stability.
Again I went to a Catholic school, we where practically forced to pray in class. People still went to the principal's office for various infractions.
* Encouraging dependence on state welfare services rather than taking responsibility for ones own actions. Dependency is a major cause of depression.
So by helping people as your religious books say we should, it's a bad thing? No wonder your writing the Bible to fit your motives. Also these programs are just enough to keep people alive, if not for these more people would be homeless or starving to death. Yes, there are Americans starving to death Andy.
* Socialistic theories based upon materialism encourage nihilism and depresion.
Okay if your so anti materialism then sell your car, computer, your house, everything and give the money to the poor as Jesus said you should. As far as teaching socialistic theories based upon it, no. I believe in compassion and that the woman living on the streets is equal to the man in the ivory tower.

Wow. If this article is to be believed, then every student attending Reed College is certifiably insane.
What's that, Lassie? Reed College is one of the most prestigious colleges in the United States of America? AND most students go on to earn post-graduate degrees and generally amount to more in life by the time they enter the work force than Andy Schlafly has in his entire life?

* Lying about the truth, causing belief in falsehoods or encouraging conduct disorders[9]
This is something you do.
* There are no real differences between boys and girls.
The only real difference is whether your genitals are "innie" or "outie." Men and women have the same mental and spiritual capacity, the same desire to do good, and the same tendency to fall into error.
* Humans are just another type of animal.
We are members of the species Homo sapiens, of the kingdom Animalia. So yes, we are a type of animal. We have had more serious and widespread effects on the environment than any other animal, and we are the only species that has a spoken language of any sort. Therefore, we are a special animal. See? We're still special.
* Denying self-defense, mentally and physically.
Bullshit on this one and all the ones preceding it. I am a social liberal. However, if you try to harm me or my kin, I will give as good as I get.
* Denying the ability to control sexual desires (such as homosexuality & lesbianism); promoting lifestyles that lead to mental illness.
I am a non-practicing bisexual. That's right, I'm queer, I'm proud to be queer, and I have no trouble at all controlling myself.
* Insisting on an illogical and unjustified "wall of separation of church and state"; When classroom prayer would promote mental stability.
Children can pray wherever they want, including in our public schools. The only thing banned is for teachers to FORCE children to pray, because different religions/denominations have different ideas of what kind of prayers are acceptable.
* Encouraging dependence on state welfare services rather than taking responsibility for ones own actions. Dependency is a major cause of depression.
Bullshit again. We want a system in which our welfare system doesn't need to exist. However, there are times in which people need to collect unemployment in order to survive. There is no shame in this.
* Socialistic theories based upon materialism encourage nihilism and depresion.
The only materialistic social theory that comes to mind is capitalism--a system based ENTIRELY on monetary gain. And yes, it does encourage nihilism and depression when carried to extremes. Pure socialism isn't too good either--what works is a mixture of both.
